r/bikewrench on reddit seems to be doing fine?
@Criggie I've indeed also the impression that this format is made obsolete by GenAI, except as data source. Insisting on being "factual" makes the "community" something more abstract. For the main site, at personal level, at personal level, my consultation (participation has never been high) has dropped a lot because of GenAI.
@Michael do you have stats?
Uggggg that didn't work
Lets try again...
Speaking of reddit, Criggie got a new MTB: i.redd.it/zgscvveewjce1.jpeg
I would so-ride that.
Would absolutely suck for any sort of up/downhill gradient
Here's 15 years of posts, expressed as Questions + Answers.
So you can see the boost covid gave us
then a return to less-than-before, and a noticeable drop in the last year
You can clearly see the seasonality effect I mentioned earlier.
Here's the same period, showing closed or deleted posts. Its slightly down in the last ~6 years but still "about level"-ish
(there's clearly some weird data in 2012 when "deleted" is higher than "closed or deleted" No idea why that is

@Criggie no, just a feeling. Though most questions there are pretty boring.
yah they don't have the infrastructure for things like "close as duplicate" so there's a number of times the same question is asked.
Or "ID MY BMX BRO" questions where the answers are just twaddle
And do they have the search engine that proposes questions as one types a question? Sometimes faster to find answers like that than searching for answers.

@Criggie yeah, they get a ton of identical questions. Lots of “is it safe to keep riding this?”. Funny how some people ask if it’s safe to keep riding a severely cracked rim or frame while others are concerned about a tiny cut in their tyre or minor surface rust …
TBH we haven't had a scratched carbon frame for months now... clearly its winter in dentistville

I’ve scratched my carbon wheels last month!
which reminds me, I wanted to buy some black nail paint for them
11:11
And that in turn reminds me to borrow a roll on 5cm white tape at work, some scratches that show dark under the white paint job.

If you’re ever wondering why wildfire smoke is so bad for you it’s because it includes things like “an entire bicycle”

My Co-founder Josh Weinsch took this photo of his little daughter’s bike, which was in their driveway when they evacuated. Their neighborhood was vaporized.
Does that seem plausible?
I see a front axle, a kickstand and something in the head tube area. Maybe the rear axle
I think it was a kick bike
does it really get hot enough close to the ground to set aluminium on fire? o.O
oh, Aluminium already burns at 400°C?
and melts at 660°C

@Criggie That would explain the lack of a chain, though aren't spokes normally steel? Otherwise it looks like only the steel remains of an aluminium bike.
If its a balance bike, could easily be plastic wheels.
"little daughter’s bike" <-- balance bike I thing
"little daughter’s bike" <-- balance bike I think
