People have been paying huge sums for weddings forever. There used to be 2 important things in your life: Wedding and funeral. So a major part of your lifetime earnings went into these important things. Many societies still do it that way.
06:18
heh for some its an excuse for a party
If it's literally the high point of your life (according to tradition), it's not an excuse...

yet another dubious bicycle evaluation post bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/88739/…
the MTB in the background is missing the front wheel
kind of makes me suspect it was stolen by OP
TIL With IngRid cranksets you could get a 30:44 ratio for the Ekar. Critical need-to-know information. (and more chainring sizes 30-52)
AND a larger q-factor. Might be just the thing.
large q factor? eeeww
09:22
Just make up the loss of aero with more power
10:16
is it even less aero?
I mean … the spindle or bottom bracket are slightly larger of course
@Michael When I saw the title, I was thinking "another BMX valuation", but was wrong...
@Michael Isn't the main purpose of small q-factor that the legs are closer together and more aero?

11:40
But who steals old beaten-up bikes like that?
12:05
Hmm, calling a CF bike a "plastic bike" is like calling a brick house a "mortar house". Makes no sense.
12:26
@Michael Maybe, but it could also be a garage cleanout, maybe an estate cleanup or tenants left stuff behind. There's a bunch of legit reasons why someone could end up with a couple bike frames without knowing a lot about bikes.
Clearly value is important to the asker too.
13:23
@Erlkoenig: Thanks for mentioning the q factor, apparently a too narrow stance width can exacerbate ITBS, maybe I should try going wider
right now I’m as narrow as possible on the SRAM Quarq crankset which I think already has a quite narrow q fator
13:43
@Michael Yes. According to Wikipedia it can be caused by the feet being "toed in", i.e. pointing inwards instead of forwards. This would be caused by to narrow q-factor
have to ride 104km on Saturday with the little sis O•O
not sure if this is the right time to be experimenting, but can’t make it worse
14:07
I wish I had someone in the family who is willing to ride more than 40km

@Michael I got some cheap Q factor pedal extenders from Aliexpress - they were cheap steel ones for a few dollars. I put them on my wet bike and it immediately felt "better" Definitely worth doing.
Falkenjagd has open house day on 26./27. may. Anyone need a Ti bike :P
I’ll just move the cleats by a few millimeters and see how it feels
I already use extenders... They do work but might not be enough
I can also put 2mm of washers on the pedal threads I think
they are long enough to be poking out on the other end
@Erlkoenig: that’s one those bikepacking setups from reddit where I don’t understand why they are not simply using two small panniers: i.redd.it/ax4cuzo147za1.jpg
yah my adapters were ~20mm, a much more useful length. And strong, I can stand to pedal still without feeling any flex
18:17
@Criggie doesn’t that give you an extremely wide stance width? o.O
or is it necessary because you are so tall?
18:55
@Michael Possibly better weight distribution
I have 18mm
With 145.5mm base q-factor from the crankset
It's an outrageous riding outfit

20:19
Gutted - I got to work and my gopro case is hanging open - camera has fallen out somewhere
oh no
20:31
Very bad luck!
Hope you'll find it again.
best wishes, that is an awful feeling
hey if you don't like pedal flex, i recommend avoiding these, which I encountered on a bike in for service a month or two ago:
21:01
Are they... missing something??
compared to basically every other pedal, yes
LOL
I do like the idea of a larger thread. Doesn't seem to have been implemented well though
21:29
no that would mean a wider crank arm out at the ends.

2 hours later…
ooo shimano's funky 18mm pedal shaft?
I bet its metric 10mm chain too
that's dura ace 10mm track
I still haven't encountered that irl, although the first shop I worked at had an ironic poster of it
heh if anyone still has it, they're not riding on it.
that eyelet looks enormous
yeah they are very funny cranks
Loving the stream of vintage oddball photos here today
23:07
there was another company that in recent years was trying to bring to market a funky OS "spindle-less", zero-foot-offset design, except it was a weird knobby clipless road thing
i think the shoes were special too
the one where the pedal was just an axle? and the shoe had a massive clip thing underneath ?
I can't find a link sorry - from memory there was a bare spindle and all the retention was built into the shoe. It would have been terrible for walking at all.
23:25
Different pedals, btu ther's the magnetic clipless...
