I kinda feel that the securing bike bits question is a dupe, but I can't find a good dupe for it.

Q: securing disk brakes against theft in a low-visibility locked bike room

Italian PhilosopherI have once again had my disk brake stolen on my bike in my apartment building. Being a high rise they forbid us taking bikes up in the elevator (and I don't really have the space to store it anyway). But they don't put any camera in the locked bike room. So, people from the building can just ...

stealing parts off bikes, or having to store bikes in a shared space ?
I'd say fuckem and take the bike up the stairs.
Or make the bike room individual cages
Some apartments have individual storage rooms/cages right? Store the bike in there.
I dunno - apartments aren't a thing here.
well they are, but cost more than a house/land so they're uncommon.

@Criggie yeah, that's going to get a tenant booted and an owner fined in most countries. There has to be a process for that, just to stop egregious problems (like people raising and slaughtering livestock in their apartments - I kid you not).
Hopefully by making it an issue building management will do something to reduce the problem. But it seems to be one of those things that happens and is basically impossible to stop. Canty Uni used to have problems with people steal wheels, I had my handlebars, shifters etc stolen when parked next to a climbing area on the port hills. Stopping it is IME more hassle than it's worth.
You only have to have a couple of "security bolts" snap off inside the frame to decide they're not worth the hassle - they're usually hard enough to be very difficult to drill out, but not hard enough to actually work.
So, my technique of riding shitty bikes might actually pay off ?
:)
two new tyres and I doubled teh value of the bike :))))

Jesus. 40 upvotes for a simple question? What am I going to do with all this reputation.
Anyhow figured I'd pop in and say hi, sorry I haven't been around much lately. How you all doing?

@nhinkle You should weigh into the "I got yelled at for having a red light forward" question.
22:05
@Criggie I was the one who answered it?

@nhinkle :) Yeah, the vote count is weird. And NY road rules are really weird, the language, the layout, the random focus on horses, it's as though they haven't really accepted that they should update the rules to deal with modern technology.
Although I do tend to mentally read mentions of candlepower and stuff as belonging to the era of Sherlock Holmes and Erasmus Darwin, which probably doesn't help. "Citizens, I say to you, let us move on from the size of the Presidents... hands... and adopt this new-fangled French invention, le systeme metrique! It is that or have our citizens adopt instead the invention of Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin"
I wonder if the votes are mostly "ooh, an easy question, I have an opinion on that and ... yes, an obviously correct answer"?

45 now
Apparently it's on the network hot questions list
So I guess that's contributing to it
I wouldn't have even answered it if not for the email alert I get for anything tagged "bike light" :P
