unknown-performer has a description and I get the impression from the questions that are tagged that it mostly applies to classical/instrumental pieces where the composer matters more than the performer.
Yes, and people (out of ignorance, or laziness) have created new tags when existing tags would have been better. It's never wrong to ask or discuss these things.
