It doesn't prevent selling rubbish, it is a just a disincentive. It shifts the balance towards better quality though.

After my last pair of light hiking boots wore out after 10 years, I bought the same ones again. They lasted 10 months. Returned them and the manufacturer said they can't be repaired. According to online reviews many people have the same issue. Bought a different brand instead. So does the entire family now, as they share my foot shape and always went with that specific brand as it fit us best
Also there's a distinct quality difference between cycling products for athletic use vs. for general/urban/commuting use. The latter ones are often terrible.

any idea if these sets come with bolts for the brake calipers? bike24.com/p2509117.html
this one at least shows them on the photo, let’s hope mine is the same: r2-bike.com/…

Aren't there several different lengths of the bolts?

how do I know which one I need? :D

For the front brake, the caliper is mounted on a plate (that allows you to choose between 160 and 140mm rotors). The plate is mounted on the fork from the same side as the calliper, so the length doesn’t depends on the bike.
On some bikes (only one I’m aware is the Specialized Diverge) the plate says 140/160 but the fork mount is positioned for 160/180.

the frameset handbook specifies 20mm length/depth for the rear brake bosses but nothing for the front (fork), maybe that’s the reason
looks like I’d need a 33mm bolt: i.imgur.com/Wqe7UVO.png
maybe I’ll just get bolts from the hardware store if they are not included

Not sure these are standard screws, but if it’s frame specific they might be included with the frame

apparently the Shimano “C” bolts are just normal M5 bolts with a slot for the clip in the end (which is not really necessary)

Might be a good temporary fix, but brakes are certainly on the components I would rather be over cautious about
Although it’s true that in post mount, bolts are the standard ones, except that the head can take a clip.
@Erlkoenig My experience when i was hiking was that Decathlon clothes were much more durable than any Fjällraven, North Face & co.For cycling clothes, I didn’t try the good brands though, and went straight to the upper ranges of Decathlon - but I’m a bit disappointed with their winter stuff.
My worst experience was with the in house brands of some “fancy” retailers - they are not in Germany ;)

7:25 PM
I don’t see how an M5 bolt tightened to 8Nm with medium strength threadlocker could ever come loose on its own
even one bolt would still be enough to hold it in place, the braking action pushes the brake caliper against the frame anyway

8:10 PM
The “over” in “over cautious” implies that it may be too much ;)
Especially in that case, there’s practically no penalty in choosing the cautious approach.

@Rеnаud Yeah but that is the category "athletic", not "utility". And you still need to know what to buy

9:01 PM
Met someone who did an alps crossing with a 500€ Decathlon bike 😄 managed to break his freehub on a steep climb

@Erlkoenig Admiration for the sheer leg power required to do that. (thinking positive)

@Criggie He was a total beginner 😄

I’ve broken the freehub on my Shimano 105 rear wheel, do I get a medal? :p
only took 15Mm or so

weird - OP accepted this answer even though its clearly not the same.

@Michael bolts nor adapter plate came with mine. You probably want original bolts since they have grooves for clips to secure them. The calipers have ab elegant system.
Just do your research before plenty on the web about it.
@Michael not on its own. But your gonna open those bolts a lot
Have two different wheel sets? Check and clean break pads.
Unlucky with facing on the frame: set caliper every time you take your wheel out.
You have to losen the bike just enough to let the caliper move into a new centred position without having enough play to tilt.
