Using an IR camera on shiny metal to measure temperature 😶 that disk was probably way hotter
But a eddy current brake like on trucks would be cool for mountain descents

yep - a set-brake like a tandem can have.

He started with high chain tension and had to make it even more extreme because the magnets were still grabbing it.
I was glad when I saw her had real brakes on that (former) fixie

Couldn't he just have used a singlespeed freewheel cog, removed the pawls, and bolted that to the magnet disk?

The 1040 is just out, and so we know that the 540 & 840 will be out in the next year or so. Adorama now lists the 540 (

), but Garmin hasn't even announced it.
