@Mithrandir So - strava is basically an online ride/run recorder. It tries to be a social platform but you're able to use it completely isolated.
You can run a recording app on an iphone or android phone, or many upmarket cycling computers (garmin) or some higher end running watches support strava.
@Mithrandir the trips get uploaded at the end, and you can track your time/speed/distance/efforts etc.
I also use strava to track the culmulative milage on parts of my bike - ie the last chain I had did 3600 km.
So the competitive part of strava is segments - defined parts of your trip that are timed and compared with others.

I see.

have a browse of my trips strava.com/athletes/4325436
I leave all my dog walks private so they don't show for anyone
Here's this morning's ride to work

Huh. Interesting.
I guess I'll take a look at it and see if it'll be of any use to someone who is usually just sessioning street spots :P

well I'm a bit of a data nerd so there's an appeal
Here's some long-term summary stats

9:20 PM
Those are some impressive distances.

yeah - we moved house in August, so I have a 25 km commute now :-\ Up from a 1500 metre commute before then.

I joined the Bicycles.SE club. I'll see if I end up using the app for real after I fix my bike :P

What's wrong with it ?

Rear derailleur broke.
I was actually out on a trail (a rare event), when I hear a crunch and the bike stops abruptly. After barely managing to unclip before falling over, I notice that the derailleur has been bent and was detached from the frame. I had to walk it from the trail to the bike shop.
Hmm, Strava doesn't appear to have any "segments" in my area.

Possibly - they're easy enough to create. And they get back-filled which is good.

I'll look into it in the morning. Thanks for the tips!

All good :)

It's honestly hard to tell in any given situation. @Criggie based on that post and his language/description, I'd guess it was him. I've had plenty interactions with police in various states riding or driving, armed and unarmed. I've never had any issues. If you start with acting polite and assume the officer is just trying to do their job, everything seems to go fine.
Most of the videos I see posted about police misconduct start with someone acting like an ass. I mean, sure, you should be able to do that. But do you really want to act like an ass at an underpaid public servant whose job is to work with society's worst people and whose job is dangerous enough it warrants a bulletproof vest?
Plenty of cops go overboard. Probably the same amount (or less) than people in any other profession. However, it's rare that I have seen it completely unprovoked.
Or you can feel freee to come visit here and I'll keep the cops off you :)
Speaking of acting terrible, its questions/comment/this bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/58972/… that make me want to act horribly.
