im always curious when I get downvoted if its the OP that did it or someone else

@durron597 I haven't gotten to Voyager yet - still workign through DS9, but I keep getting distracted by other shows.

@AshleyNunn Voyager is only good if you like snarking at stupid shows.
If you enjoy doing that, it's great. If you are looking for "high" sci-fi, don't bother.

user15026
@durron597 I do like that

user15026
Although I've watched so much Orange is the New Black that it will be hella weird watching Voyager, I think.

user15026
stabs WinBox with sticks, makes it bend to her will

10:23 PM
@AshleyNunn Red looks totally different than Janeway. She's so much younger

user15026
@durron597 I figured, I am just used to her a particular way, so it will be interesting to see what my brain does with that.

user15026
It's like how in my head, Alan Alda looks as he did in MASH regardless of the fact MANY YEARS have passed so he is much older now, so I get very confused when I see him in more recent things, because his voice is what I expect, but his face isn't. And while I should just understand that aging happens, my brain just goes "this looks wrong".

@AshleyNunn My girlfriend didn't even realize they were the same person until I told her. But I tend to match actors by voice more than looks. I've caught so many Babylon 5 actor reuses that way... for example Wayne Alexander had 4 different parts in Babylon 5: imdb.com/name/nm0018795
Robin Atkin Downes had 2: imdb.com/name/nm0235960/?ref_=tt_cl_t12

user15026
@durron597 Yeah, I am good at voices, bad at faces

So yeah, that's how I immediately knew Red was Janeway despite the totally different look. her voice is the same even with the russian accent.

user15026
10:29 PM
@durron597 See, having never seen Voyager, all I knew was when OitNB started airing everyone was like "OMG Janeway is Red" which meant nothing to me because I'd not even started paying any attention to any Star Trek yet.

user15026
(It's all @WorldEngineer's fault that I started poking at Star Trek, and I am glad he was like "You'll like this" because I really have. Even if I found TOS kinda, well, old and silly, I still get why it was awesome.)

10:43 PM
@AshleyNunn I don't really like TOS. shrug gotta run, have a good weekend all

@AshleyNunn let's be honesty here - Alan Alda does look exactly as he did in MASH. Alan Alda's like a plastic mold of Alan Alda.

user15026
@durron597 I didn't love it by any means, but I understand why for its time it was awesome

user15026
@JimmyHoffa I don't know, I saw him in 30 Rock and was just like "oh, you're old now :( "

user20683
@AshleyNunn he had a really good part in "The Blacklist". Totally sinister in a polite, grandfatherly way.

user15026
@WorldEngineer Oh my gosh, I can see how he would be awesome at that. In 30 Rock he was playing a super liberal fatherly type, the foil to a very stuffed shirt conservative. It entertained me greatly.

user20683
10:54 PM
he's one of the few actors who can stand toe to toe with James Spader and not give an inch.

@WorldEngineer so much promise, so much fail... James Spader is awesome in that show. Absolutely every other person in that show is horrible. Really bad horrible.
not to mention the show itself is... iduno, bad direction? bad writing? Good story arch, awful awful implementation.
made it like 4 or 6 episodes in and haven't gone any further. Watching bits of it as I have time to watch crap when I don't want to put the effort into watching something I'm invested in

user20683
@JimmyHoffa James Spader is just awesome period

user20683
@JimmyHoffa it suffers heavily from Alias syndrome

user20683
on the plus side, Halt And Catch Fire is on Netflix

user20683
and I hear the 2nd season is way better than the first

user20683
11:03 PM
but then again, Lee Pace is just fun to watch

11:30 PM
@WorldEngineer dunno what you mean by alias "syndrome" - but the protagonist is a wretched actor, and a dumb person as far as characters go. Plus a number of the other characters are just total as arbitrarily dumb

hey guys I think I am going to make a wireless device, and an API for it
but not provide any means to tell if the device is present or not

user15026
@WorldEngineer Oh god I wanted to like Alias

user15026
and it was just SO BAD

@whatsisname you can call it Goldtooth, and give it the most heinously squirrely protocol you can come up with. Require GPS signals be receivable on both hosts, clients - and requisite witness device - because they can compare. They don't pair, only compare to diff so they can not tell you if they're both not there, or only one of them isn't there.

or Sonytooth

user15026
@Duga That doesn't strike me as a Programmers question.

user15026
But I am not a programmer so maybe I am talking out of my ass.

it's not
