@enderland That's one to take back to your current boss. There's a huge difference between maintenance work and developing new features.

This is a sufficiently abstract kind of question (or group of questions) that it would probably fit better on Programmers.SE than here. I'm not sure it'll really fit well there either (especially having 7 separate questions, albeit close enough related that it's hard to ask any one in isolation), but it seems like it would stand a better chance. — Jerry Coffin 1 min ago

Q: Is this something that we can learn from Stack Overflow?

gnatA (first-day) user quickly dropped two code dumps at our front page: 1, 2. That's all-right, 'it happens, these will probably be closed and deleted soon, fine. What made me raise eyebrows though is their SO profile - it also shows that they are a first day visitor, but there are no questions (ev...

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it doesn't belong to StackOverflow. Migrating to Programmers might be a good choice. — Klaster_1 57 secs ago

this is a rather broad question that isn't a good fit for SO. You might check if programmers.se will accept your question. Check their help center and meta when in doubt. — rene 1 min ago

10:09 AM
@Klaster_1: Career and education advice, and asking for learning resources, is also off topic on Programmers, please see their help center for more information. Programmers.SE is only about conceptual questions regarding software development (e.g. testing or software architecture). @ CaptSaltyJack: Closing a question does not delete it. — amon 50 secs ago

Most people don't have Spiser's book in front of them (I don't). So you need to explain a bit more your problem. BTW, I believe it is off-topic for StackOverflow (since you don't show any code): programmers.stackexchange.com or cs.stackexchange.com are better places for your question. — Basile Starynkevitch 45 secs ago

@GlenH7 Yeah going to have an interesting convo on Monday I'm sure

You have to be careful there, too. That could be misconstrued as a "give me the codez" question, and that's equally off-topic. In the case you need help with design, you should ask on Programmers Stack Exchange. If you have code and want to know if its correct, then you should ask on Code Review Stack Exchange. — jww 1 min ago
@jww "I cannot figure out how do the same in PHP" is an indication that this does not belong at Code Review. Additionally, OP says in a comment "There is no a single row of code yet". Additionally, this question does not belong on Programmers either. — Simon André Forsberg 1 min ago

I feel for you, but Stack Overflow is still not the site to ask these questions. This site is for specific programming problems, not for soliciting opinions on problems programmers face. — Jeroen Mostert 36 secs ago
@jww Oh I know what Programmers SE is about. I am just saying that this particular question does not belong there. — Simon André Forsberg 1 min ago
@JeroenMostert There are exceptions and I think this might be one. There are hundreds of programmers in this site that can provide a meaningful answer, I think that the programming process is not only about code statements, it also involve planning, which is closely related to the final code of the intended software. — yeyo 1 min ago

holy crap it's quiet here!

@SimonAndréForsberg weekend

It's weekend on Code Review as well but The 2nd Monitor is still active

user20683
10:55 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg yes but Programmers is very much a weekday support website. People tend to do it as a second monitor thing

apparently so
or perhaps you like your families better...

user20683
@SimonAndréForsberg that's a fairly common thing

or perhaps we just like Code Review a lot

user20683
@SimonAndréForsberg maybe

@Duga & @SimonAndréForsberg, Oy, already.... :-) I about choked when I saw you being referred to Progs' help center...

@jww - to be clear, this question in its current form would not be welcome on Programmers. It hits a tri-fecta of "Unclear", "Too Broad", and quite likely "Off-topic: Resource recommendation." — GlenH7 1 min ago

user41796
@Duga I know, amiright, or what?

@Duga thanks for commenting there, @GlenH7.
I have to admit, I don't always know what's on topic for Programmers, but that particular question really didn't feel like it belonged here anywhere.
I think @Duga knows better what's on-topic here than I do.

NP & YW. I was ... appalled. :-)

I think safari is unhappy at the number of tabs I have open. Or I have some sites open with crappy javascript running in the background.

Android File Transfer FTW

user41796
Forgot I had it on the system since I use it so rarely

Total Commander for Android FTW

user20683
@GlenH7 is it me or is Angular the new JQuery?

user41796
yes

user41796
@SimonAndréForsberg I'll have to look into that one

11:34 PM
@GlenH7 also, if you haven't used Total Commander for Windows, then you have missed something. (Unless you run Mac or Linux of course...)

user41796
@WorldEngineer angular and SPAs are the current rage. Regardless of whether or not a SPA is appropriate for your needs

@SimonAndréForsberg At home, I'm a mac person

user41796
At Work, I suffer through windows

user20683
at home I am a mac person by default, I don't get a choice

user41796
At times, I flirted with running a Win Server 20* variant. But I really, really dislike the damage they did to 2012 server

user20683
Linux seems messy in my experience

user20683
useful but messy

user41796
It is

user41796
It's gotten much, much, much better. But it's still messy and a bit kludgy

user41796
Mind you, I frequently drop into terminal on my mac to deal with things. And I'm running an Ubuntu server for minecraft

I just realized how old and decrepit I must sound since I'm fluent with a number of operating systems.... <sighs/>

user20683
@GlenH7 being the father of youngish boys, that seems nigh obligatory these days

user20683
Mac OS 7.5.5 was my staple for like 8 years

user20683
@GlenH7 nothing wrong with that

user20683
just keep your debugging questions off Arqade if you want to avoid the wrath of @AshleyNunn

user41796
I need to get spigot fixed though. I switched over to spigot since bukkit is dead. But not all of the plugins I'm using are playing nicely on spigot

user41796
At this point, I just need to back all of the plugins out and re-introduce them one at a time to see what still works

user15026
@WorldEngineer Hey, I suspect he'd put together a better, more concise and clear question than most (and it would be more than a crash dump!)

user41796
11:42 PM
I haven't figured out how to put a deeper history on screen. But I was also too lazy to just pipe it to a file

user41796
If I run into a roadblock, are those sorts of questions on topic at Arqade? And yes, it would be after I run out of things I can think of

user15026
11:58 PM
@GlenH7 Yeah, most likely
