@LightnessRacesinOrbit Every site has some form of "specific problem statement." On Code Review, it is about reviewing a specific code implementation, as opposed to general best practices about hypothetical code or code that does not work.
So yes, even on Code Review, there are specifics.
@LightnessRacesinOrbit I edited slightly to address your objection.

Q: Redefining the scope of Lifehacks

michaelpriFrom some of the earliest days of Lifehacks SE, we have been trying to define the scope of Lifehacks. We knew we would run into problems as we were different from the typical SE site. We've asked about the on-topicness of medical questions, psychological life hacks, and many more topics. We've de...

> We need to create a clearer scope - There's been confusion about our scope. Making the scope clearer will allow us to better show new users why their question is off-topic or why their answer is not a life hack. We need to have a less ambiguous definition of a problem that requires an "outside of the box" solution.

We need to broaden our scope - I know this seems a bit contradictory to my last point, but it can be possible to do both of these things. By broaden the scope, I mean that we need to allow more topics to be considered needing life hacks. Clearing up our scope would actually br

Q: calculating the center of gravity

Dae MiamiI am writing a program that performs a fourier analysis of clam shells. Because the shells are not symmetrical, I have to find the center of gravity of the shell for the origin. I can treat the shell as a polygon with x vertices, but how many vertices are needed to get an accurate center of gravi...

This seems clear enough to me. What, then, is the purpose of K? Can you provide a more specific and concrete example, not simply MyClass, that illustrates its usage? — Robert Harvey 7 mins ago

@MichaelT Yes, but it's not a terribly useful question at this point. "Engineering related software" is finding a niche on Engineering.SE, but we're trying to keep the quality level up with those. Standard "what have you tried, what's your actual problem?" type things.

I know its an awful question... just one of those "maybe it can be guided into being a good question" things... unfortunately most poor questions are rather difficult to fix without the OP's interaction.

@RobertHarvey better :)

@Yannis: Does this post really need all of the commentary you've added to the end of it?

Q: Review of my electrical plans

SnowmanI am finishing a basement. It is wide open with no rooms, just a structural cinder block/I-beam wall. I am adding a home office to one corner. This is a bit long, but I want to be sure to include all of the relevant information and avoid back-and-forth in the comments. Disclaimer I have been...

This is an interesting question, and I am tempted to answer but I was going to start with "I think..." so that's a clear sign it's not the best question for this site. Perhaps it would be better on programmers.stackexchange.comTristan 57 secs ago

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because a) 'soft questions' about design and workflow are better suited for Programmers and b) it seeks discussion, not answers. If you can rewrite your question to get an answer (for example, how to convince your team members to design), you might try posting it on Programmers. Please search first, then check their tour/help center to ensure your question is on-topic there before asking. — Jeffrey Bosboom 9 secs ago

I'm interested on learning some JS and I wonder which is the best way to do it. I would like to make an online course but the offer is so vast. I would appreciate if anyone could give me some guidance and provide me some good resources where you can learn from beginner to advanced JS.

12:07 PM
well, "advanced JS" can mean a lot of things, since the core language of Javascript itself is not all that big or complicated
Javascript: The Good Parts is probably the best quick introduction to the language itself that doesn't assume any significant prior knowledge, and it skips all the stuff you should never use so it's easier to go from that to semi-decent code right away
Effective Javascript is a very good follow-up once you're comfortable with simply writing code
where you go beyond that depends on what you want to do with Javascript
(and I should mention those books don't cover the ES6 features at all; I'm not sure there are any good intro books for ES6 at the moment, though there are lots of online tutorials aimed at ES5 coders)

Thanks @Ixrec I was actually planning to buy that book (The good parts) but I only found the 2008 edition, it won't be a little bit out-of-date right? shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596517748.do

1:58 PM
hm, it does seem to be missing ES5 stuff
I know Effective Javascript contains ES5 stuff, so it may not be too important; the biggest wins from ES5 are strict mode, the new array methods and the JSON object, so it's not like a radical change in the fundamentals
oh, it's also available online as free pdfs, if that helps: bdcampbell.net/javascript/book/javascript_the_good_parts.pdf (and Effective JS has a substantial preview: ptgmedia.pearsoncmg.com/images/9780321812186/samplepages/…)

question is ... "i am james .. james bond , i will not tell you my phone number ", this sentence is linked with which oops concept, A) Inheritance B) Polymorphism C) Data hiding D) Abstraction

Thanks @Ixrec so yo think it does not matter if the book has not being reedited since 2008?

as long as you're aware of it, I think it's fine
and in practice it's important to have some idea of the boundaries between ES4, ES5 and ES6
since The Good Parts deliberately avoids all the stuff that's made obsolete by ES5, it should be harmless
there may be a similar book that includes ES5-6 but I'm not personally aware of one

well that was effective, now the only questions left with that tag are closed, have delete votes, and I agree they should be deleted
