@Brant It's the only language that managed to name itself after a disease and still make the top 100 in popularity (I guess you could argue for LISP if you are desperate).

@Brant exactly what I thought before hearing @psr talk about it. Creepy I know.

@psr you ever look at that qbasic in Haskell blog? Dude used template Haskell (it's like macros) to make qbasic syntax turned into a data type value definition where the value was an ast he used as execution instructions

@JimmyHoffa - Briefly. I wasn't even sure how he was doing it though. I wish I had time to pursue Haskell more - I have so little time that I forget the syntax by the time I come back to it. But I'm really not a dilettante, I really am just crazy busy. And I need to be at least somewhat mentally fresh when I study it. I wish my CS curriculum had been based around Haskell - what I did instead was usually not worth much.

Q: Can I fork Linux source code, change it around to suit my desires, and claim it as my own kernel without doing any of the originating work?

fork manIs it acceptable form to take Linux kernel source from any version, change it, claim it is mine, and then distribute it for monetary gain? In such a case open-source software is entitled to a sort of "grab, change, sell" mechanism in which anyone can just tinker with something to look different f...

@JimmyHoffa of course you won. :) Anyone aware about this post is winning; its interpretations may differ but knowing it provides a common reference to clarify these when needed. Your interpretation makes certain sense to me btw, I need to think a bit more about it (if memory serves, there was a question on MSO discussing this). As for the question we talk about with Yannis, it's this one

Q: Has anybody actually implemented full ALM solution with TFS?

ChrisCI'm looking at evaluating using the full ALM solution based on on TFS (including Visual Studio 2012, TFS, Test Manager, SCVMM for lab management, etc.). I understand the basics of it, and there is lots online in the way of resources for how to implement this, but I'm wondering if anybody has actu...

This really isn't in the form of a specific question. I think you have a big enough situation you're dealing with that you should really post multiple specific questions here about the things that you're concerned/interested regarding. As it stands though this question is likely to be closed (and reopened when you edit it to have a specific objectively answerable question, so don't fret if it is closed, think of closed as 'on hold') — Jimmy Hoffa 23 secs ago

Q: What is the reason for using lowercase for the first word in a local variable (eg, employeeCount, firstName)

oscilatingcretinI take a good deal of criticism from other programmers due to my use of full proper casing for all my variables. For example, your typical programmer will use employeeCount for a variable name, but I use EmployeeCount. I use full proper casing for everything, be it a void method, return method,...

A: The association bonus should not enable users to vote on every site

gnatIn order to tame the damage of drive-by votes in hot questions, I would consider more targeted approach. I think the most straightforward way to prevent over-voting from newcomers who just arrived at the hot question would be to simply delay granting them upvote privilege for a day or two. This...

One day, Perl master shiboleet was lecturing at the Temple of Communal Harvest when the monk Lhaskel asked him where he might seek enlightenment. The monk was immediately directed to study The Codeless Code, a fabled resource that enhanced its supplicant's spiritual progress more than that of their deliverables. When the monk's superior noticed him lost among the Codeless Code's bountiful wisdom, he turned off the monk's monitor and asked him "What is the better metric - lines of code or lines of koan?"
