10:00 PM
@Ampt :-P

user41796
but only room owners & mods can see deleted.

How about that snow
lots and lots of snow

user55340
@Ampt Didn't get much of it up here. Heard Madison was a bit of mess this morning though.

Ok, let me create them accounts :D

user41796

10:01 PM
So was milwaukee. Pileups all along the interstate

user55340
Eau Claire is very proactive in its snow removal.

user55340
As long as you're not in one of the small (very small) suburb towns that needs to do its own.

user41796
@Undo @gnat drops in & out of chat during the day but follows through on when his name is pinged. I suspect he'll go the 404 route.

@GlenH7 Ok, great.
I need to be here, though - otherwise it gets buried :P

Is there a good way to do interfaces in Python or am I on to a code smell because I need interfaces?

user41796
10:03 PM
@Undo that's easy enough -- @gnat ping Undo before you create a 404 on his site.

Really I need a contract that says "Provide these methods and return this when I call them" for my framework

@MichaelT You should be set up :D
(check your email)
Now, Glen.

user55340
@Ampt consider the snow plow for the town of Wheaton, WI goo.gl/maps/NtxGP

user55340
@Undo got it, logged in I think, but still see 'Login' rather than getting through to a page beyond.

@MichaelT Eh? Oh, log in again. It's a weird bug.
Then select the Programmers tab.

user55340
10:09 PM
Hmm... ok, didn't like Safari maybe.

user41796
I need to step out for a bit; but I'll be back and will look over the chat log from here.

user55340
Flags! Flags! Happy happy flags!

@MichaelT You got in, I take it?

user55340
Yep.

Yup:
@GlenH7 You should be set up too!

10:13 PM
@Ampt I fixed your stinky implementation. You're welcome. Enjoy 3k sucker!

user55340
Oh, @Maple_Shaft - you might like this question if you want to take your mind off of diaper duty... programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/219346/…

@MichaelT You mean "like" as in "like with the fire of a thousand sons" ?

user55340

user55340
That was much bigger than I intended... but gets the point across.

@MichaelT That is absurdly large.

user55340
10:24 PM
@JimmyHoffa heh. (in reference to my comment... right? otherwise still funny in a coincidence way)

user55340
Still... I could just see poor Maple at the hospital, looking in horror as they enter data into a computer system.

user55340
(I've still got the instinct to look at the register software at various places I go and judge them by the quality of their mag stripe reader (smashing those three together makes a funny word))

user55340
magstripereader

user55340
I keep wondering what a 'eader' is.

@MichaelT why am I considering that snow plow?
@JimmyHoffa did you like that comment on my own post? ;)

10:28 PM
@MichaelT Meh, having seen more than enough of it entered and being on the other side of the table, I think the conspiracy theorists are little too far fetched in there beliefs of where the data goes. The real fear is mistakes lose the data but more often than not it's not even that complex: the real problem in all the healthcare software is the lack of integration so they just duplicate shit everywhere or people in one system are missing info entered by people in another.

user55340
@Ampt They're a small town that isn't much more than a collection of barns and a travel plaza. They have to contract with another municipality to do their plowing - which is prioritized low, and also not allocated lots of funding.

Well we did just launch a new, low cost alternative to our flagship unit :) Basic functionality without all the bells and whistles, but enough to get the job done on an industrial scale

Oh, in related news, I discovered a little-bobby-tables class injection on my chemistry teacher's site.

That's one of the reasons I explicitly always stick with university related facilities. Research hospitals tend to have the best paperwork management systems because the research makes it necessary for them to be able to keep track of test results and things, further everywhere I've lived I've found they have branch locales everywhere so i can find nearby offices and when going to one of the main hospitals they have the info shared across from the closer branches and etc

It wasn't hard :P

10:31 PM
@Ampt did you like that edit that made your answer not crappy? ;)

@MichaelT oh I see the related messages you put in about smaller towns having a harder time picking up
@JimmyHoffa Did you like that I suggested it first :P

...@Ampt did you like the other edit I made that's going to whore you some more rep

> Simpler. Now it can be upvoted. :P
thanks for the up-vote edit I guess :P
even though I don't want 3k
then I have that stupid R word

@JimmyHoffa Really? I seriously didn't even see your comment.

user55340
10:35 PM
@Ampt You could just go around and go 'meh' and hit close without hitting the queue.

@Ampt I know, and that's not the edit I'm talking about. Look at the other edit I made for you :)

user55340
Its not like you need to be a @GlenH7 in the close queue.

@Ampt hint: Look at the P.SE frontpage not the newest list

@JimmyHoffa Oooh yes, I saw that! Yay Rep!

user55340
But having an additional close voter, even on the new questions means that its one less we need in the queue.

10:37 PM
Yeah, but once I get close votes I lose the ability to say "Wow, this place sucks. I can't do anything though, so I guess it's really not my problem"
@JimmyHoffa still sour that I got passed over for the ars technica feature on that question

haha

seriously ruined my sunday after I found out that everyone but the selected answer was mentioned :P

Something tells me this won't get me into ArsTechnica either:
4
A: Implement Haskell typeclass with C# interface

Jimmy HoffaC#'s type system lacks a couple features necessary to properly implement type classes as an interface. Let's start with your example, but the key is showing a fuller account of what a typeclass is and does, and then trying to map those to C# bits. class Functor f where fmap :: (a -> b) -> f a ->

yeah but I was doing that soft shit that everyone has an opinion on
its the bikeshed problem

Moral of the story: ArsTechnica should be ArsOpiniona

10:39 PM
Still snowing here

How? It sounds like you found how. Struggling with the problems? Eventually figuring them out? Yeah, I think that's called learning. Keep it up and you won't need to teach yourself this anymore, because you'll have already done it. Also this question isn't really on topic here sorry, there's just no authoritatively correct answer, many would be as correct as eachother and there's no way for a passive audience to know which answer will work best for them. — Jimmy Hoffa 31 secs ago

user55340
@Ampt Just flurries here.

and its gonna be dark. gonna be a fun drive home if they didn't get the interstate cleaned up during the day. Took me 1:45 to do my 30 minute commute this morning

:( I want snow... Been enjoying myself some black grouse the past few days as the weather's been decidedly cold and gray enough to warrant it.

cars turned around, in pileups etc

10:44 PM

I like the snow, I don't like several hundred tons of steel doing 60 with no traction around me

user55340
@Ampt Actually, not even much of that. Its just southern WI. wxug.us/1a9fd

especially because many of the people piloting the vehicles are idiots

user55340
@Ampt Get in a snow plow. I bet that would shrug off idiots.

@MichaelT that is most decidedly right where I have to drive

10:46 PM
@Ampt Agreed, I totalled a car like 5 years ago on a slick of ice, going 10 miles below speed limit still dark in the morn out I found out a car was stalled with no lights on in my lane when he got close enough to show up in my headlights... ice wouldn't let me change lanes or slow down. Spun off him and ended up in the left lane to get hit by someone else about 15 seconds later. I've not found driving in snow to be pleasant anymore.

user55340
I've heard fun stories of trail groomers for cross country trails go out and make crazy ones.

user55340
(thats another shrug off stupid things hitting you... unless its you thats stupid)...

user55340
One guy would go and do a trail that would cross train tracks. The problem is it takes a few minutes to get across the tracks. So he'd bring runners that would go down the tracks with radios to give him an all clear.

user55340
The last time he did a crazy trail he was out, got lost, got out of the groomer and stepped off... into broken ice. He was grooming a trail across a frozen stream. He was lucky the groomer didn't fall in. Got back in, turned the cabin heat on high, went back and never did a crazy trail again.

Lessons learned: Always have AWD and dynamic stability control (NHTSA studies have shown this combination would mitigate over 30% of all accidents that occur), and if everyone is passing you when you're in the snow as was the case that morning, you're probably still going too fast to stop or change lanes quickly enough, and proper application of a standard really works because it was my last ditch effort to change lanes, down shifting one gear after another got me halfway out of the lane

user55340
10:51 PM
Btw, fun snow plow reminder:

user55340

I dread to think what would have happened had I not thought to start downshifting and hit that truck head-on rather than half-way

engine braking is great
also, commute on a snowmobile

@Ampt fuck that, those things injure there riders without even having traffic!

well look at the people who ride them
theres your problem
the machine itself is awesome

user55340

last year in minnesota: 5% of all snowmobile accidents resulted in fatality.

user55340

user55340

user55340
Thats the one I like the most - the symmetry of the inner part is impressive.

@MichaelT Umbrella corp called, they want their serum back

10:58 PM
1 - Hit a trailer.
2 - Fell through the ice
3 - lost control and hit some trees
5 mins ago, by Ampt
well look at the people who ride them

@Ampt 76% of accidents occured while people were sober! ...only a quarter of them were absolutely dumber than hell...

LMAO
just saw that
24% were not sober

I also like this statistic: 100% of fatalities male

yeep saw that too

user55340
I've seen some commute to work on a snowmobile up here... but thats also because on those days the roads were very bad and the absurd attendance policy at my former employer meant you needed to be there.

11:00 PM
ok look at the last one

alcohol involved in fatal accidents
50% YES
13% UNK

morning

(I'm just kidding) Morning!

depends on which side of the world you're on
technically im in the future

11:01 PM
@Ampt That's THUNK; 13% were fatal-non-fatal as the person was clearly immutable and the fatality was on the other side of a thunk inside a monad. They're really fine, but on the other side of that monad they're both drunk and ded

Is this like schroedingers monad?\

user55340
@Ampt I bet @MattD is going to say something like "nice warm sunny day out, I'm wearing shorts" or the like too.

22% were cats, and their status is unknown until observation
2

Matt, are you in Australia?

yse

11:03 PM
Ok. So heres the plan

user55340
He could do some silly metric thing to like "its not that warm out, only 20 degrees" or the like.

I am also a Matt D
we can trade places.
you come work on snow plows, I come live in Australia and see mad amounts of aussie hip hop.

user55340
"... oh, 20 degrees C. Thats, what... 68 F to you yanks"

@MattD complete and utter stab in the dark: You don't work for a hotel booking site company do you?
(because all of australia has one software company, this is my time-tested theory. Yep.)

Honestly when I first saw his name I was like HOLY CRAP I USED MY REAL NAME
then I realized it wasn't me

user55340
11:04 PM
@Ampt How long did that realization take?

no, i dont work for wotif

probably a solid 5-7 seconds
it was early. I hadn't had my coffee
that or it was late. And I hadn't had my coffee

@MattD dunno what wotif is but okey, just one of those "would have been a really cool guess if it was accurate..." :D

Aussie hip hop is terrible. they dont know how to chorus. it all sounds the same

Blasphemer!

11:06 PM
its like there's two dudes who write all the backing track for every aussie hip hop band

Hilltop Hoods for life

every chorus has a female singer which is unrelated to the song
itd be ok. if EVERYONE didnt sound like that. seriously.

Dude. Stop. You are totally ruining my opinion of everyone in Australia because of your own, personal opinion

its one of those things where, the HH's were onto a good thing, but now everyone sounds like them and its all a bit meh

Well Illy is my most recent favorite

user55340
11:07 PM
@Ampt you just need to go down to .AU and be the hipster king there.

just stream JJJ from abc.net.au

@MichaelT I was there when I was 12
for 2 weeks

you'll get what i mean

@MattD It's because y'all are a bunch of blue arsed flies! Hooray for random usage of other people's slang!

:P
CRIKEY

11:08 PM
LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT ONE

IM GONNA STICK MY THUMB IN ITS BUT AND ITLL PISS IT RIGHT OFF

I knew I was in love with australia when I was in sydney
looking at the opera house

@Ampt Then you saw the price of a gallon of milk and you shit a kidney and died.

we were on the upper level. It was magnificent. In the background was the harbor, and square in the middle of the lower level were two hot chicks making out on a bench

user55340
@Ampt photograph I know of... lik.com

user55340
11:09 PM
He's Australian... and while he's got a lot of US photos...

user55340

user55340

user55340
(Upolu Cay, Queensland for that second one)

user55340

the great barrier reef was amazing
the colors.....

user55340
11:11 PM
That one still makes me want to pack up and go there now.

un-fucking-believable

I want to go back so badly

@MichaelT Just make sure not to look at any price tags while you're there, because y'know, the kidney thing...

yeah but they get paid more as well

user55340
11:13 PM
@JimmyHoffa I got a few of his prints... and his big book. He's got a gallery in Aspen.

user55340
And when I say 'big book' its 580 pages and weighs 40 lbs. lik.com/shop/books/book6.html

@MichaelT I meant while you're in Australia

user55340
@JimmyHoffa Could have gone there for that book price...

does that say 3000 dollars
i typed 3000 and had to go back and look again because I thought "No way was it that high"

user55340
@Ampt Yes. Yes it does. Was only $2k when I got it.

11:15 PM
All of those places are more interesting than my desk, and id rather be at any of them

user55340
He ups the price as availability goes down.

user55340
(and since I was a registered buyer of a few of his prints... I got a discount on top of that... so its not that bad...)

user55340
The neat thing about the book is that it has the GPS coordinates of all the photos.

user55340
So its a 580 page "todo list"

thats cool
he could do an app that describes where he took each photo from, and gamify the entire experience

11:16 PM
@Ampt Aye, I'm half-kidding. I don't know how well it balances out though, according to my understanding it's not the same as what you have in much of america regarding the cost to wage comparison, but then it balances with other things like healthcare (I just got served a summons today from a medical debt collector woo!)

user55340
This one is a bit more in line with what I make now...

user55340
@MattD he's got a gallery in Noosa. If you are in the area (do realize I have a different sense of "in the area" than many people), you should visit it.

noosa's about 1.5hr drive from here

user55340
... I've driven that far for dinner on a weeknight... as I said, different view of distance.

user55340
11:21 PM
@WorldEngineer hows the flag count?

3hr round trip for dinner. I'd want some pretty amazing food

user20683
@MichaelT hmm?

user20683
confidential

user55340
@WorldEngineer Ahh... not a flagpoliclipse yet.

user55340
@MattD It was good. Not great, but part of it is also the trip.

11:22 PM
@MichaelT It's not an eclipse extension, that's a y...

user55340
Something I've heard said by an Englishman... "In England, 100 miles is a long distance. In the United States, 100 years is a long time."

has anyone used xamarin?

@MichaelT ...100 years is a long time...

compared to the history of england. its not actually that long.

user55340
I've done a road trip that was about 15,000 miles from place to place (not including trips from those places to other destinations and back)

user20683
11:24 PM
@MattD as in Studio or their mobile thing?

i drove from brisbane to sydney and back in a weekend
@WorldEngineer as in, used it for a mobile app

user55340
@MattD I remember in England seeing corner stones of buildings that were put up when they still thought the world was flat.

user20683
@MattD I have not done that yet. That would require money. And I have access to all the stuff to do that natively

user20683
@JimmyHoffa That's missing large chunks of Europe

11:25 PM
heh

user20683
Namely all of Scandinavia

@WorldEngineer What the fuck do I look like, the europolice? I'll let them with their perfect governments worry about that.

user20683
but also large portions of Eastern Europe and also Turkey

just draw an arrow that says "elk here"

user55340

11:26 PM
@WorldEngineer Technically Turkey isn't a country, animals don't have rights in the Euro zone, they're too delicious

user20683
@JimmyHoffa SELECT Jackass FROM Colorado WHERE...

user20683
:P

user55340
@MattD so, in that context, this was one road trip that I did...

user55340

@WorldEngineer WHERE [CantStandTheOfficeToday] = 1

user55340
11:29 PM
And this was another one, but follow the colors (google refused to route that many points)

user55340

that is a ridiculous amount of driving :P

user41796
@MichaelT - did you connect to Charcoal using safari or did you have to use a different browser? I keep getting stuck @ the login.

user41796
@MattD Welcome to America. :-)

I'd just fly
fuck that

user55340
11:34 PM
@GlenH7 sometimes, I've got to hard reset it and then log in again. Or log out and log in.

user55340
The session state is finicky.

Welp, time to try the roads for round 2
night all

user41796
@MichaelT ok, I'll try a different browser. Massive multitasking at the moment. (typical)

user41796
@MattD You'll miss out on some gorgeous scenery though

also, non-answer "Play the politics, not the solution answer has over 2x as much as a solution" programmers.stackexchange.com/a/219488/93290
then he comments and says that I don't actually answer the question
Neither of these answers can be considered to provide the same solution as the Original program as they rely on assumptions that may not be valid. Java Code: How are you certain the only thing the methods do is apply a multiplier? Python Code: How are you certain the string is not allowed to contain leading (or mid point) characters other than digits (E.g. "123.456s"). — mattnz 23 mins ago
