@YannisRizos Ooo that was cheating. The actual answer is to direct the OP to look into RIA technologies, not give them a language (although I did both in my answer)

Q: What programming language would be the best fit for small browser games?

AlisonI want to make small web apps containing little games (muds, TDs and roguelikes) or talent calculators for MMOs etc. After some research I have had people say that ASP.NET MVC would be perfect for these tasks. After looking at it I am unsure as to whether or not this is the right path to to achi...

@Rachel The meta question was on why the small browser games question was closed... No cheating, it was closed because "what language I should learn next" is off topic.
World Engineer and psr explain beautifully why language choice is off topic, and why this particular question doesn't have enough information in it to be on topic...
@Rachel And the full sentence in the FAQ is: "what language you should learn next, including which technology is better" - It's not about languages, and as platforms evolve it's not really easy to define what a language actually is these days...

Who would win in a fight between a Gorilla and a Shark?

OK, maybe you’re thinking that’s a ridiculous question. Perhaps it is. But various forms of this question get asked all the time. Consider this now-ancient Stack Overflow question titled Python v. Perl:

Okay, so I’m finally making the jump into scripting languages and I have decided to focus on either Python or Perl. The problem is: I don’t know which to cut my teeth on.

Most of my programming experience is in C, Java, and C++. There’s no specific task I would be learning Python/Perl for, other that possibly applying it to my dev work to make life easier in general. …

@YannisRizos I'm just giving you a hard time :)
Cause you sent someone else to answer the question

@Rachel Well @WorldEngineer did express interest in doing a blog post on language choice, so I though he would be better equipped to answer your meta question...

Are we doing anything with the blog ever?
Because if not, I'd like to post two articles I wrote on my own blog
I was going to wait until after they got posted and just post them with a link to the P.SE blog, but I don't know what's going on with that

@Rachel We are lagging a bit and to be honest I haven't even checked Trello for a couple of weeks. I was about to though...
not much going on in the blog chat room...

3:10 PM
@YannisRizos Yeah, I haven't seen anyone on Trello in the past few weeks, which was why I am asking

@Rachel Perhaps we need someone to help Jarrod a bit... Any volunteers?

I'm doing what I can, but I'm only one person
Would you mind taking a few minutes and going over Ubermench's article? We need some more opinions on it
We're trying to decide if it should be split into two articles
And personally, I dislike the 2nd half of it but I'm willing to go with it if others think it's OK

@Rachel I'm not moderating the blog ;) We need to setup an editorial team to take this decisions quickly and not debate ad nauseam

Pft editor team I thought was me, jarrod, mark, and you
Oh and Jae I think

@Rachel Hmmm, I don't know that's a bit arbitrary. I would want to see some actual contributions first and then set up an actual team...
For example I haven't written anything yet ;)

3:17 PM
Oh I never planned on writing anything
Editors are supposed to proof read articles and are the final person to view it before it goes to publication
I only wrote two cause the topics were interesting to me, and I think I was the one that wrote the P.SE answers to them
I really want to see the blog do well, but I see interest dying off.... I was hoping if we could start publishing stuff it would motivate people more

@Rachel Well, I'll spend the next couple of hours on Trello and hopefully I'll find some way of reigniting the spark. Jarrod hasn't been around for a while, but that shouldn't really make any difference in writing the posts...

@YannisRizos Alright thanks. Maybe we could consider bumping the blog meta post too with some kind of update to it
Really if you could just proof-read the two articles there and add your feedback that'd be great. Perhaps also vote on any topics you see in the Pending Post Ideas too that would be helpful

@Rachel I'll email Jarrod to see what he's been up to and whether we can start publishing, however we really need a couple of more posts ready for publication before we start publishing...

Yeah, I really don't want to start publishing with only 1-2 articles ready
I'd ideally like to have 4 or so
So we don't have a blog that gets 2 articles and then is dead

Are all drafts on WP?

3:27 PM
I'm learning that people will want about a month or two to write an article, especially since they don't get paid and do this in their spare time
@YannisRizos The ones that are in the "ready for Review" or higher section are

Did your notes on Sammy's article find their way into the actual draft?

Yes, they did and he cleaned it up nicely
I think anyways.... that was so long ago I actually can't remember :)

Great I was only asking so I don't have to read both ;)

Haha no, those notes were just for him anyways
They were mostly spelling/grammer fixes

Did anyone ask if he discussed the article with his company?

3:31 PM
Why would he need to?

"Some time ago the development team at my firm staged a revolt against the sales team and senior management" - Although my current team wouldn't have any issue with such a statement becoming public knowledge, people at my former gig would go batshit crazy about it...

Hrrrmm I wouldn't see an issue with that since it's not imparting any proprietary or company-specific information, but perhaps leave a note on trello about your concern and he can edit it if he thinks it would be a problem
wow SE eats my life. I have stuff to do today, such as picking up new RAM for my machinE!
I'm off, thanks for going over those articles :)

@Rachel As a sidenote, every time we comment on a post, the OP is getting spammed with inbox notifications, so let's keep comments relevant to the post... I'd like to re-open the question but the consensus so far seems to be against that...
I went through the drafts Uber's post is a bit long but I think it could work as a single post... I'll go through them again tomorrow, as it's tequila time here (again)

I mean, it must be a troll.

troll / idiot... It can be hard to tell
"C# was written by academics" <-- either complete troll, or complete ignorance of where these languages originated

Lack of English in operators is not a coincidence

Fortunately, I've already written several fine VB-bashing answers on Progse that refute these claims of superiority.
