Just some of my thoughts on the matter since you brought up animals. My understanding of catholic theology is that God conceives the Son via the intellectual knowledge he has of himself. But in human beings, it is the woman who conceives the offspring.
In the animal kingdom, the "papa" seahorse is the one who conceives and is "pregnant" with his babies. To me, the seahorse in this manner images the Father even more than human fatherhood.

So in other words, it's just a personal musing, and there's no other particular reason to think that gender is "in the image of God"?
