Henry WH Hack v2.0

:chat! That's seems very simple.
But Ok
21 hours later…

I just found some super obscure vim behavior that I don't understand.
Try doing
:call setreg('"', '')
and then pasting
And then try
:call setreg('"', [])
and then pasting.
Carpetsmoker
I don't see anything strange @DJMcMayhem?
DJMcMayhem
With the first one, it simply doesn't paste, but with the second it gives an error for the register being empty
Carpetsmoker
Oh yes
totallyhuman
a... room for vim..?
Riker
no error for me o_O
Tumbler41
9:10 PM
I got it.
Riker
@totallyhuman it's the vim.se site room >_>
Carpetsmoker
(also, why are so many people joining our chat?! This is scary!)

Also, I'm sure most people in this room would appreciate this:

@Riker You use vim right? I just found some super weird undocumented behavior, you might find it interesting, idk
DJMcMayhem
@Carpetsmoker Sorry, I linked my message in another room
totallyhuman
9:10 PM
@Carpetsmoker you have been linked
Carpetsmoker
Ah right ;-)
Riker
:p
DJMcMayhem
I intended to show riker, but a bunch of people joined
Carpetsmoker
Guess that Vim treats and empty string and list different
totallyhuman
the name's intriguing, ok?
:P
Tumbler41
9:11 PM
Lurk, lurk, lurk. :P
Riker
@DJMcMayhem I don't see any error
DJMcMayhem
I never even realized that a register can contain a list
Riker
neither thing does anything visible
DJMcMayhem
:call setreg('"', [1, 2, 3])
Riker
oh, I forgot to try to paste
huh
Carpetsmoker
9:12 PM
I saw that weblog post @DJMcMayhem ... Frankly, the "can't quit Vim" joke got a bit old back somewhere around 1996, but
shrug
Riker
that is odd
DJMcMayhem
@Carpetsmoker I didn't exist at that time. :P
Tumbler41
I think it has to do with linewise vs character wise, because if you do
:call setreg('"', [''])
you get a blank line.
Carpetsmoker
Maybe someone should make a patch to give instructions to quit vim when you press ^C (\s)
Pretty sure Vim was around in 1996?
DJMcMayhem
It was, but
I
wasn't
Carpetsmoker
9:13 PM
Oh right
Tumbler41
lol
totallyhuman
:q!
DJMcMayhem
TIL I came into existence shortly after that joke got old.
Riker
lol
Carpetsmoker
You think you can look it up in the ChangeLog
The exact date
And it didn't even mention our site either
Tumbler41
9:18 PM
:(
Carpetsmoker
How did that get so many upvotes before it got canned :-/
+149/-5
Hah, 67 upvotes just today
Tumbler41
Wow. Haha.
