All these but the first ("A") need more close votes (or, though I'm not guessing this will happen for these: if anyone thinks any shouldn't be duped, please consider posting here or commenting).

A: Installing Yaws server on Ubuntu 12.04 (Using a cloud service)

Eliah KaganClive van Hilten posted a comment that provides what may be the best available answer to this question. What he said (with slight modification) was: I know nothing about Yaws, but reading the output above I notice a couple of things: Your docroot is /home/ubuntu/yaws/www/test but Eshell report...

A: Kubuntu 12.04 no longer associates to wireless networks

Eliah KaganA comment provided a good solution, which may well work here (or have worked here). Even if not, it would likely work for others who have this problem and find this question. One thing you might try is to delete the wireless profile for your SSID and recreate it. So go to Kubuntu's KNetwork...

oh, did we decide on what the official "abandoned" closing is?
@EliahKagan?
before i go and uh, ya know, do it wrong for everything i've got open right now.
NARQ, right?
@jrg been flagging for mods / should we VTC??
@jrg I've been using too localized and I think that's correct. I've heard both ways. Bruno Pereira's answer on meta addressed issue surrounding when an abandoned question that cannot currently be answered should be closed (raising issues like, is the user still active on the site and thus potentially available to provide more information). I marked his answer as accepted because it rocked, but I'm not sure the "which close reason" part was ever actually answered.
jrg
jrg
@EliahKagan ok, so i'll continue using TL until someone gets mad for reals.
as opposed to nice, reasoned debate.
In my opinion, too localized is the better reason because the issue is that the question cannot be answered because the situation no longer facilitates it (the author is gone). In contrast, for a question where information has been requested that is clearly necessary in order for it to be answered, that question doesn't have the necessary content to be answerable, and thus can probably still be closed as NARQ. But that's just my thoughts on the matter.
jrg
jrg
02:53
well, considering how the mod team agrees with you 100%, and nobody has said anything to change our minds, we're a go on that.
Should I unaccept here to solicit more answers?
jrg
jrg
you can, but it won't get any new answers.
man, i wish i could toss bounties on meta.
this is a perfect situation.
K. However, if an abandoned question ends up getting closed NARQ, and it turns out only TL really applied, it's probably not necessary to do anything more to it.
jrg
jrg
right.
@jrg I think I won't bother, then.
jrg
jrg
02:55
ok, all clean.
jrg
jrg
i have 10 minutes, i'm going through all the stuff in /review.
Just to clarify: As far as I know, my opinion on the what-close-reason is not at all different from what Bruno Pereira posted. But I could be misunderstanding; I'd be more comfortable using him as a reference than me.
@jrg Awesome!
@Ringtail all done.
@Ringtail I recommend against using the banner text from too localized (or any other close reason) as a comment to document that a question is abandoned and thus should be closed. It doesn't convey that information...and part of the function of "seems to be abandoned" comments is to document to the OP (if they return) and others how the close-reason applies (as that's sometimes a point of confusion).
@jrg I love that question...
jrg
jrg
skipping for now.
@jrg I would close it as a dupe of the same one the OP posted on SO
that is the best place to ask, though it's on-topic here
jrg
jrg
03:01
ok, so OT then.
@jrg NO!
jrg
jrg
er, TL.
@EliahKagan When using the abandoned I use: This question appears to be abandoned. Unaccepted answer or unanswered, could you perhaps add more detail to your question? If this question no longer applies then you can either delete it or answer it yourself if you've solved the problem. Flagged for closure. Thanks!
jrg
jrg
idk, we can't just close as a dupe of something somewhere else...
@jrg okay.
03:02
When I say TL i use :
This question is unlikely to help any future visitors; it is only relevant to a small geographic area, a specific moment in time, or an extraordinarily narrow situation that is not generally applicable to the worldwide audience of the internet. For help making this question more broadly applicable, see the FAQ.
@Ringtail You want to close this as TL for some reason other than being abandoned??
jrg
jrg
right, you're copy/pasting from the close reason.
which is duplicating information in waayyyy too many places imo.
@EliahKagan I VOTED TO CLOSE it
see the close (1)
@jrg I would add a comment telling why it was closed so as not to make people think we don't want those questions.
jrg
jrg
right.
03:03
thats mine
@Ringtail Right. But what does that have to do with your comment?
jrg
jrg
so what we're saying is that why are you putting the close reason as a comment? Write something specific to the question.
that way, the user knows how to fix it and ask for it to get reopened, as opposed to this stiff, formal sounding comment.
it would be the same comment as if you voted to close as localized.
prefer no comment
jrg
jrg
i'd prefer no comment than duplicating the close reason verbatim, yes...
doesnt matter one way or the other to me
perfect
consider it done
jrg
jrg
03:06
but we'd be much happier if it was a custom one suited to that question - but that isn't required.
so are we flagging here or voting on closing?
jrg
jrg
if you can flag and vote, that'd be great. makes sure it gets done period.
(if the community/moderators agree)
since I have more flags.......makes sense
@jrg Should users who have close-votes (and thus not close-flags) ever custom-flag a post to indicate it deserves closure? I only mean in situations where it seems appropriate for a mod to close it (since custom flags don't appear in the 10k flag queue for anyone else to see)--when there are already 3 votes, or the situation is clear and it's unlikely there would be disagreement. Please note, I'm only asking about what 3k+ users should do.
jrg
jrg
@EliahKagan sure.
if they feel like custom-flagging, by all means, let them flag.
03:16
its CAPTURE THE FLAG! (sorta)
@jrg K, I will consider doing this in moderation. (Ha ha, get it. In moderation. Heh...)

@EliahKagan ME SMASH!
@BrunoPereira Thx much.
@BrunoPereira Do you have time to deal with some more spam? If so, every post by this user across the SE network is spam. (3 posts here on AU and 2 on Ask Different where it was apparently not recognized as spam initially, and edited enormously.)
I see that's taken care of (here on AU anyway). Thanks!
11:04
@EliahKagan can you link a post from that user in AD?
@BrunoPereira This post is by that user on Ask Different. (The display name is different but the accounts are linked.) The history shows it started as another spam post advertising them same site, and not answering the question that was asked there either. It was since edited, and should possibly be kept (now it's merely not a very good answer).
This is the user profile. The user has two other SE accounts (not including the just-deleted AU account), but currently there are no posts on the SO and SU accounts. It seems likely that there were in the past and they were removed as spam but not connected to the other related accounts. I don't know that to be the case though.
@EliahKagan moderator from there seems to have accepted it as "just an answer", not going to touch it for now...
thanks for the heads up
@BrunoPereira I don't disagree with keeping the post alive. I do think the user is a spammer...but they can always catch him/her next time. Currently the post is not spam so nothing absolutely has to be done.
Thx for looking into it!
@EliahKagan yeah, just needed his network profile (closed tabs too fast).
A bit frustrated here: What do I do with someone who takes a question, picks the only working answer, then makes a new question (essentially the same) and says he doesn't want to use the only working answer for the other question?
11:18
@GerhardBurger you take a big breath and move along, possibly link here so we can have a look at it?

ah it is linked in the new one, but here it is: askubuntu.com/questions/39004/…
@GerhardBurger I just edited you answer, can I please move it to the main thread?
