I think that's better than anything we can do by way of attempting an answer.

Q: Old error reports on boot and the tale about closing them

Not an big issue but unsure whether this is a bug or a "feature". When I boot Ubuntu 12.10 old crashes pop's up. Looking at the details I notice this is really old crashes. That one, for example, was 6 days old. Also when I close them new ones pops up. 0 - 2,3 times with the same crash. Also...

Is there anything special that needs to be done to get answers from closed questions transferred to their duplicates?

I noticed that askubuntu.com/q/87049/12469 had been closed as a duplicate of askubuntu.com/q/5828/12469 roughly a year after it had been answered. Unfortunately, the other question's answers are out of date (refer to GConf rather than GSettings/DConf)

Is reopening the question and then closing the other as duplicate the best option?

@JamesHenstridge Unless the current master question (not its answers) is clearly the wrong one to be the master (and sometimes even then), the best option is to merge the answers. Moderators can do this--they can merge answers out of a closed question into another question (typically the question it's closed as a duplicate of). So once the question is closed--which is definitely the case here--if you think it should be merged, contact a moderator. Usually the best ways are chat or flagging.
