Hello
I am thinking....
I want to create both Ubuntu applications and Web Applications.
Should I learn Ruby or Python?
01:44
@Shubh That's a tough one. Python is really the defacto language for most modern Ubuntu applications (and it's a web language too - Django is an example) Though Ruby is quite up and coming. However, I have a love hate (more hate than love) for Ruby and Rails
@MarcoCeppi So what do you think? Should I choose Python or Ruby? I have no previous programming experience...
Python then - definitely it's more structured than Ruby and you're likely to get quite frustrated during your learning of Ruby

Launchpad & (parts of) UbuntuOne are written in Python too
JanC
as is YouTube of course ;)
I want to say 40% of Ubuntu is Python

thats' an exageration, many large programs are written in C (e.g. the kernel) or C++ (most of OpenOffice.org)
JanC
but many of the "smaller" programs are written in Python (including things like the Software Center)
JanC
and many applications allow writing plugins, extensions, scripts, and what not in Python

Thanks. I'll learn Python.
@MarcoCeppi I think I'll start with Python.

hi there!
Hello @OpenNingia
OpenNingia
I'm exploring the chat rooms ( presumo tu sia italiano, ma e' possibile parlare in italiano in queste chat? )
This site is primarily English for the time being ( No parlo Italiano, pero hablo un poco de Espanol )
I'd recommend this room instead:
Most of the people congregate there
