@amWhy Thanks @amWhy, I felt like I was going daft at one point given what that duck was saying! What you're saying makes much more sense to me. :) I'll try and break code down further for people who may not be familiar with the language in future

11 hours later…
17:47
@DanielFischer Hello? This is a test...only a test...
18:25
1 … 2 … 3
19:02
There you are (and perhaps there you were! (as in past tense?)), but, I'll add "quatro, cinco, seis...
I'm an old-fashioned guy. Sometimes I sleep, sometimes I eat. For both of these occupations I leave the computer.
That's healthy! I guess my question yesterday that I wanted to ask you is, well, worked out, though at the expense of a Donald-type-MSE user.
Perhaps I need to use better discernment when referring to users here; I can understand that.....
@DanielFischer Pfft.
And this is my cue to leave the computer to get some dinner and beer! :D
And also do some math, while I'm at it.
It's gone, @amWhy.
Asaf, why does my appearance here often lead to a your recognition of some "cue" to leave?
Probably also delete my comment " This comment in particular..." not far above, should be deleted.
19:17
Yeah, I thought it was still in the time frame where you could delete it yourself.
There's not much of a time-frame for self-deletion, @Daniel. Anyway thanks! It seems someone is having a problem with my appearance in this room. I guess he needs his daily dose of attention, so he doesn't start pouting. So, Later! Best wishes to all.
19:32
@DanielFischer Hope you understand that I was not in anyway implicating you! You've been great.
I don't think I gave the impression that I have a problem with your appearance in this room.
@DanielFischer That's what I just tried to say...I was speaking very indirectly (not to you), and you're correct, you've never given me any impression of having a problem with my appearance here.
@amWhy: Honest to God, it's all just a coincidence.
Not entirely. The time difference plays a role too, I think. When it's afternoon for amWhy, it's evening for us. Evening is a good time for eating.
19:48
lol
@AsafKaragila Coincidentally, both you and Daniel are making me famished!
@amWhy Extort some candy from your neighbours' kids ;)
(Well, the fact that I haven't eaten anything since 10 hours ago, makes your suggestion, Daniel, very tempting!
@amWhy I ordered pizza. So... Tough luck.
@AsafKaragila Now that's just sheer torture, @Asaf!
Hmmm... turns to internet to find second favorite pizza place, and turns to a torn scrap of paper for phone number to #1!
19:59
@amWhy Well, the oven stopped working. So chicken fingers it is... Mmm... Greasy pub food is awesome.
Now, enough blubber, before we get reprimanded again...
;-)
20:51
@DanielFischer: I flagged a question to be protected earlier today; while the flag was deemed "helpful", the question wasn't protected, and now lo and behold, it's protected by the Community user.
@AsafKaragila That's true.
@DanielFischer Why wasn't it protected earlier, though?
@AsafKaragila I would guess that was because the handling moderator didn't think protection was necessary yet then.
@DanielFischer I see.
I can ask whether that was the reason if you want to be certain.
But I think it's a pretty good guess.
20:58
@DanielFischer No, it's fine.
@DanielFischer I do resent the fact one of my flag was declined, but later another moderator has agreed with my original assessment about something being NAA.
It's not a big deal, though.
Even worse, when you realize that the flagged "answer" is in fact an act of plagiarism of another answer.
(I hadn't noticed that at the time, though.)
@AsafKaragila Nobody seems to have noticed until afternoon.
@DanielFischer Yes, so it seems.
Hi, @quid!
Hello @amWhy!
21:16
Bonjour quo
ENOUGH BLUBBER!
Are you seal or men?
(and woman)
Seals are cute...I think Whales have more blubber than seals, but Whales are cute too!
Only four dimensional whales, like Mobius Dick.
Which, I might add, died at the end of the episode. Which was a shame.
As it only fed on the obsession of spaceship captains.
Don't pick on seals or whales.... blame the folks who produce trans-fats (shortening, etc)
I don't blame anyone. But I think that this is truly an off-topic blubber.
21:21
That, it is....
@DanielFischer Bonsoir Monsieur le modérateur
So...what is the vision of a lean (blubber-free) math mods chat? Well, I guess it rules out sending you all the abundance of candy I still have left (following trick-or-treat). But, no worries, I still have an extra copy of Rudin's PMA for @DanielFischer!
How many did you distribute?
21:39
PMA's? Actually, five in all. (But I sort of cheated. I sponsor a Math Club at a local high school; we meet monday, thursday, and saturdays when theirs a math competition or such. Some of the students have very wealthy parents, but three of the students I'm working with (14, 14, 15) have already passed AP Calculus, but their parents have little money to supplement their kids education, beyond the public schools. So yesterday, I gave them each a copy of PMA (behind the scenes).
...and added the text to the "club's" syllabus, ensuring that if they are unable to purchase a copy, I'd make sure, somehow, that they would have one available to them.
I also gave a copy, to two eighth-grade students who love mathematics, to hold onto, so once they've encountered calculus, they can explore.
I see. Interesting.
The university where I teach has been very receptive to allowing these bright young pre-college students to experience the campus, sit in on math classes, etc. I'm just working to be the kind of mentor that I was blessed with having at that age.
I'm done!
22:50
Ugh. I know you're both American. But can you please keep the politics out?
Understood, @Asaf.
23:05
@Asaf Any way, the exchange was hardly political, but rather personal. But none the less, I'm glad it's gone!
@amWhy No hard feelings. It was quite hilarious - so much so that I couldn't resist playing with it a bit.
