I just noticed the following post was removed due to "reasons of moderation": math.stackexchange.com/questions/1165598/…
can someone explain that? I didn't see anything wrong with it...did comments spiral out of hand or did something else happen?

@induktio nothing of this sort. The question simply fell under auto-deletion. (And with it the answer.)

@quid Oh was it closed and then people with sufficient rep voted to delete it? But you said auto-delete. How does that work (a link perhaps, or a quick explanation)?

That's a good question @induktio
I believe this room should be used more for questions like that rather than:

@PedroTamaroff when two people are fighting at school they are sent to the principal's office to resolve their conflict infornt of a higher authority. Is this not an "office" in that sense?

@infinitesimal no, it is not an office in that sense

@MarianoSuárez-Alvarez thank you for the clarification :-)

@crash See the "By the system" section of the MSE deletion faq below. In particular, that question was closed for 9 days, was not positively scored, had no positively scored or accepted answers, no pending reopen votes, and had not been edited for 9 days.

A: How does deleting work? What can cause a post to be deleted, and what does that actually mean? What are the criteria for deletion?

jjnguyHow can a post be deleted? By a user: You can typically delete your own posts at will; for exceptions, see "When can't I delete my own post?" below. To delete a post, just use the "delete" link below it. Moderators can delete any post instantly. Users with reputation >= 10k (more precisely, th...

@ArthurFischer Thanks for the link. Oddly enough, I actually had an answer to the question that had one upvote, but it was downvoted today, and then the post was deleted. I don't really care that the post was deleted; I was just curious. Thanks again for the link.
@ArthurFischer OK. I think I see what happened now. Per item 7 in the link you gave ("by the system"), once my answer was downvoted, this resulted in triggering the systems auto-deletion. Cool. Glad to be informed.

@induktio Yes, looking at your reputation changes it appears that the answer was downvoted a few hours before the question was deleted. While it is a somewhat non-standard practice on math.SE (see here, for example), I believe it is more prevalent on other SE sites. See this MSE feature request, which was inspired by events on math.SE.

@ArthurFischer Interesting. Thanks for passing that along.
@ArthurFischer I also noticed (looks like this was yesterday) that this post was removed even though my answer had an upvote and was accepted: math.stackexchange.com/questions/1164598/…
I don't see how that managed to happen given the criteria for deletion, but I suppose I'm missing one of the many fine details.

@induktio That question was voted by users for deletion. 10K users are able to vote to delete questions scored <= -3, and answers are taken away along with the questions when this happens. (Note that questions with highly scored answers are more difficult to delete, though accepted answers don't make this more difficult.)

@ArthurFischer Clarification: 10K users can vote to delete questions with any score, but they have to wait 48 hours after closure to do that. The 48 hours restriction is lifted for 20K users when the question has score <=-3.
