@MarkMcClure Okay, I didn't know that about chat (I don't use it often). It would make sense for the "frozen" notice to link to a thread somewhere saying that rooms are often frozen when they get too heated. (A bit like the boiler plate reasons for closing questions.)

I mean it does not even hide the content.

@quid I figured that that was the purpose, but I didn't think/know that it was common practice. (If it wasn't common practice then it could be viewed as the mods closing down discussion/criticism - using their superpowers to protect themselves! Which is what I was wondering.)
Also, I note that the room had to be manually re-opened. Which I find odd if freezing rooms is standard practice. (Why isn't there a timer in place?)

@user1729 in principle there is also a timed option.
@user1729 I hope my reply was clear enough to communicate that this was not the intent. In fact the room stayed open as long as it stayed a [critical] user-with-mod conversation. It was frozen once an uninvolved user joined (who was not at all being critical of the mods).
