Q: ufw firewall operation

j0hI have always run the program UFW as my firewall in Ubuntu, and been satisifed with its performance. When I installed Ubuntu 13.04, and enabled ufw, I was not able to access the internet, and all ports were blocked. This isn't the behaviour I was expecting. I expect to reject all unsolicited pack...

I repost here since ive been away for a month
is ufw conflicting with system-log ?
have posted a problem about system-log today.
@j0h hello ?

Q: system log not perpetually scrolling?

dschinn1001rsystemlogd is installed - when running - then system log is scrolling too with kernel.log and logging of eth0. Now it happens that system log is not scrolling despite of that rsystemlogd is still running in background. do I need to configure system log as daemon ? then it would run and scroll ...

@MarcoCeppi MAN Juju was way easier. I would have done that in the beginning except I didn't know you could set it up locally.
I fixed my tub, so I can now take showers inside...still no hot water yet.
And I got a new pretty b1tch1n laptop
Cool :)
I may actually finally answer that SSD cacheing with bcache answer now ;) On the other hand I have to check the Windows 8 Ubuntu dual boot questions and see if I have secure boot crap on this box.
What box is it? Pretty new?
Personally, whether you have secure boot or not Win 8 and Linux will be a pain to set up.
brand new. modulars changed at wal-mart and there was an unflagged price change on an asus laptop from 750 to 550. snapped it up like a champ (i think it was even below our cost on the item...which is saying something)
discretionary spending is shot for the forseeable future though
@Takkat 96 people overuse the word nightmare. 1 shouldn't be using locked mac junk anyway, and 1 should accept that uefi was a feature demanded by governments and forced on consumers in commodity hardware to make government spending cheaper.

Q: Distro agnostic init script dependencies

ddarioI'm trying to write an init script which will be able to handle basic dependencies (for example, It has to be started (just) before MySQL service starts). Is there a distro agnostic way to write such a script? And if not, how many version of the init script would there have to be to cover Ubuntu,...

j0h
I just tried ending each line with 2 spaces to add a line-break, and my comment still looks like a run-on sentence??
which method shoudl i use to post CLI output?
23:17
You shouldn't post CLI output.
Either edit it into your question (preferable)
or upload it to ubuntu paste
There is no such thing as line breaks for comments.
