A: Is there a way to save a session?

This setting is still available in the configuration editor. (Open dash, type gconf-editor and it should show up). Now, you need to navigate to /apps/gnome-session/options.

I'm speaking not only from experience with some of the people they are targeting, but based on the concept they are basing the current decision on. If downloading a whole DVD (for the initial install) is a problem, then those people can get an installer CD that is smaller, and people who can download the DVD (either with faster internet, or greater patience) get that instead :)

@TheX Actually the CD becomes a live CD installer, and the alternative stays the same

optionally they could make the DVD come with an optional alternative installer - but I think that would be overkill

gcontool-2 is the command next comes the type of change (boolean = true/fals) next --set and th direcory in gconfeditor and then the word you want and the setting it gets. Simple eh?
