MechWarrior?
@Alvar can you play it on Ubuntu? (maybe with wine/playon) I used to play MechWarrior 3 mercenaries
@mateo_salta sorry no, it's windows only :P
Mech warrior online :P
@Alvar some of my favorites were the Kodiak, and the Jenner
@mateo_salta running with a catapult k2 now
Oh Java, how I hate thee!
00:33
@maggotbrain That's why do don't ask open ended questions. No one understands and the only thing we can do is dupe it to what we deem most appropriate and ask the OP to clarify.
OK I'm really curious now. What's so bad about Java?
Why does everyone (here) hate Java?
Well, I don't really hate Java - I just have no use for it :)
That makes more sense.
Probably the biggest strike against it is that Android forces you to write your apps in Java.
I'd much rather write my apps in C++, thank you very much.
Uh, they can't easily support more than one language can they?
And I'm sure there are many people who'd rather use Java over C++... Just sayin.
Well, you can write native code (in C/C++) and run it on an Android. You just can't write the application in either of those.
You could write a Java app that simply calls into a C++ executable - which is sort of what I'm trying to do now.
00:38
Yes.
@GeorgeEdison what's the progress on the git app thing
I had it all ready to go and then found a really nasty bug.
So I'm working on that bug now.
oh, the one you were talking about eariler
That's the one :)
Plus I ran into some problems setting up my merchant account for selling the app.
Therefore I am currently working on solving two problems right now.
well, once setting up the account is done, that will be out of the way for other apps
@GeorgeEdison let me know, I want to give you a dollar ;) (or the going rate)
00:44
I've switched from libgit2 to just running the Git executable itself on the device.
wow, sounds complex
I've almost got it working. I've got the executable cross-compiled and bundled in the application. I've even managed to get the Git executable to print a simple error message :P
did that fix the key-signing stuff yeah that
You mean SSH support?
Yes, the app can now support SSH connections no problem.
(At least in theory.)
00:55
Hi @RolandiXor. Haven't seen you in a while.
Hi :) | (: iH
Man.. All these new 2k and 3k users. Review is just dead. But that's a good thing :)

Ubuntu needs indicator autohiding. I am tired of saying this.
Wow.
Yeah.

You should report this to Canonical. Not here. Aside from that, it does indeed look like a trademark violation, but that's for Canonical to decide. — Seth 1 min ago
@Seth that's pretty flagrant
What is? The violation or my comment?
The violation
What about this redfish.co.nz/index.html ? That page links to it.
01:39
Wow, but debian said something about not caring about logos i think...
Well good for them IMO.
Either way, you can't really copyright a swirl imo. You could find invocations of the swirl back to 8bit games as a wand emission i suppose. It's still a little hokey. The Ubu logo is a bit more distinctive.
Yes that's true.
02:21
wait wut? HALP.

Silence is the lack of audible sound or presence of sounds of very low intensity. By analogy, the word silence can also refer to any absence of communication, including in media other than speech. Silence is also used as total communication, in reference to non verbal communication and spiritual connection. Silence also refers to no sounds uttered by anybody in a room or area. Silence is an important factor in many cultural spectacles, as in rituals. In discourse analysis, speakers use brief absences of speech to mark the boundaries of prosodic units. Silence in speech can be hesitation...

Q: Reference documentation for cgroups (control groups) settings

David ParksI'm looking for some reference documentation to explain what each of the settings are for each control group. For example, there's cpuset.cpus, I think setting this to 0 means use all CPUs, setting it to 1 limits you to 1 core. And cpuset.shares, how is that configured exactly? Surely there's a...

A: Restore laptop to manufacturer's pre-installed version of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Rinzwind Unfortunately my laptop's wifi isn't supported by the normal Ubuntu releases. The only version that will work is the pre-installed version. This is a contradiction. If it worked before on a previous installed Ubuntu it will always work (bugs excluded ;-) ). The manufacturer probably pre-inst...

hello people
Hi o/
By the way, I'm new to Ask Ubuntu and am trying to post sensible answers. What do you think about askubuntu.com/questions/224803/python-speechd/271517#271517 ?
11:03
@JenniferWilson there is a timeout however...
@JenniferWilson: protip. If no one can tell what your question is, there's a problem
that's the biggest problem with the first one you listed - it could very easily be rephrased to "How do I install plop"
@jennifer good enoug for an upvote
your answers seem alright tho
11:04
yeah looks good to me
well reg. plop: my answer would be :fix the cd rom
immediate replacement or your computer will die
lol
@Takkat: neither my main desktop, nor my main laptop have optical drives ;p
who needs an opticaldrive?

my linux boot is pretty snappy too despite being on a crappy 5400 rpm, 40gb drive that probably fell off the back of a truck
yeah but windows does not boot with apache and mysql ;-)
w/o those 2 I can shave of 4 secs
Doesn't Windows "boot" from hibernate?
11:17
probably. they like to cheat like that >:DDD
what other OS's can have a TRAIN run in a terminal window!! Ubuntu rocks
jennifer still here? >:D
Those days when boot times were significant I hibernated occasionally. But there always were issues. Now it takes longer to wake up than to reboot.

@jokerdino Landscape is payed service, and I also don't know what it do exactly. It's more related with servers isn't?

it's more for general management and not remote control

it was a valid-ish question. IMO at least
This question is not related with Ubuntu
I beg to differ. It's all about Android stuff, except for "Hey, I tried Ubuntu!
And, probably running ubuntu right now to reinstall Android.
actually, i just read the question. you may be right.
Which, again, has nothing to do with the problem at hand: Missing file, probably wrong archive downloaded.
Needs way more information and the problem itself is Android-related or user error. Neither of which we can support.
17:29
It should be asked at Android Enthusiasts as he is asking about reinstalling Android

spam flags to emails to text messages. would that be crazy?
@jokerdino maybe about the yahoo classic e-mail
i see. they are updating the interface?
17:59
I think they allerady did, I'm still using the "old classic" one, and they have been removing parts bit by bit, first It no longer deletes spam automatically, now they are removing messenger (not that I used it anyway) so it wouldn't supprise me if they got rid of the "classic" e-mail altogether.
that is the latest message about the messenger thing
i see.
my dad was a bit worried and said he didn't understand the message or something. he asked me to help him with his email :P
yeah, all I want is plain e-mail, I even have the pictures turned off and text only mode on.
yeah, at best, i share a link in email.
