@Takkat I was one of the Approvers of that edit. I didn't approve it hastily. Did give it a hard look. I interpreted it as an actual update of the question. The OP solved a part of the problem but wasn't completely satisfied. I think this was worthy enough to be Approved. Was I wrong?
If it was wrong, then it was a genuine mistake. Not something done hastily :-) But do let me know your reaction..
it's a 50-50. it may or may not be a complete answer
@jokerdino Yes.. it wasn't a complete answer..
a sort of update of the question
he kinda said he fixed the issue. but something else was annoying him about that.
yes..
Should a new question be posted by him?
i think that is the best course.
16:10
hmm
16:23
bah, not worth the panic.
16:33
@jokerdino panic time
nada.
i killed 3 right now.
we have got 4 spam posts in a span of couple of minutes
where is the 4th?
looks like all the 4 are dealt with

i was on a different tab and they sneaked in a couple just now :(
16:35
however this doesn't look automated
one of them was edited before my eyes (within the 5 min grace period)
the one earlier today had easily 150+ posts.
yeah... i read about that in the evening
wasn't online in the morning
okay. ping me if another one comes. writing up a blog post.
@Aditya neither was i :(
okay
Wild theory: It's rebels that disagree with either Ubuntu or AU's policies.

Cause, quite frankly, this looks like we are specifically targeted out of the blue, by real people.

16:37
at least they should spam about other linux distros.
That would make it obvious, though.
hm, right.
@jokerdino heh. that wouldn't push people to ad driven piracy sites...
hm, i need to be careful about blasting an innocent question now.
If it was only about making a quick buck, SO would be much more attractive.
16:40
Did I miss something?
Or, better yet, Ask Different.
Ton of people reading it who aren't exactly speedy on avoiding it.
AU on the other hand makes the link pointless.
@Seth were you online about 12 hours ago
@Seth We're being Spambombed.
Oh my.
@Seth just some good ol' spam
16:42
if no... then lots and lots of spam
@Aditya No I wasn't.
How much?
around 3 pages full of spam.

Well, I'll be sorta hanging around. Got some stuff to do.
@Seth see yaa... ;)
16:46
Could I have a screenshot of somebodys flags? Just the most recent spam.
you want a shot of spam?
Like that.
@Seth oh okay.

what did you use?
16:47
Awesome Screenshot.
Forgot to mention that.

Quick question too, I can't seem to start a bounty at 50.
Only 100.
@Aditya sorry, was afk for a while - is all clear by now?
@Seth maybe you already bountied.
That happened to me once when I received a bounty on the same question
16:51
@Takkat yes...
@jokerdino nope.
@Takkat :-)
@Aditya great :)

Q: What can we do about all the reoccurring spam?

SethI have noticed across SE we are getting a lot of spam, usually titled "WATCH BLAH BLAH BLAH HERE". It is very repetitive, regularly coming in the later afternoon/early evening (pacific time) a few times a week. This is starting to become a problem (on Ask Ubuntu at least) because this spam com...

I haven't gotten a lot of input there..
I guess 50/100 not a whole lot of difference.

Q: Minimum bounty on a question is now 100 rep?

Ethan FurmanThe first time I started a bounty I was able to choose 50, but every bounty since then the minimum is 100. I still see other bounties of only 50. Any idea of why I don't have the 50 option any more? (This is across Stack Overflow and Programmers, at least.) This is the latest answer I conside...

> 2011-09-20: The minimum bounty on a question you have answered is now 100.
Ah, thats it.
Well here goes then.
@jokerdino I've added your picture to the question.
That is just mind boggling.
@jokerdino What do you use for those screenshots?
17:02
@AmithKK firefox dev toolbar.
built in
@Seth it would be worth mentioning that the picture just lists 1/3rd of the actual attack ;)
@Aditya Okie. I'll add that later.
@Seth thumbs up
Anyone who says we aren't getting loads of spam and it was an isolated incident needs to see jokerdino's delete/downvote/flag history
agreed.
17:06
@AbrahamVanHelpsing No, Marco handled it earlier. :)
but the rest of your point stands.
Yeah, you know what I was getting at.
@jokerdino another
Another one.-
Where? I don't see it.
17:14
Good.
I wish I had 10k. I can't believe how many were in the screenshot... and I'm told there were more
Tonight might be a long one
@Seth on a completely different topic: your tutorial in meta.askubuntu.com/a/6230/117103 is excellent - got me flying almost immediately.
@guntbert I'm glad it helped you :)
Github can be a really confusing place, so I thought it would help if we had a small tutorial..
I am glad too :-), the (for me) important point was the possibility to edit that file almost "on the fly", without the need for a local branch.
@guntbert Yeah, I didn't want to create a local branch either.

Q: How to resume after suspend on 13.04

user141146I just installed Ubuntu 13.04 on HP EliteBook 2540 with Intel Core i5 and integrated graphics. Seems fine so far with one exception. VTC: Localized or VTC: Offtopic.
its about 13.04 which is a dev release
You should add a comment.
can't, system's erroring when I try
i blame @Sathya for it.
What error are you getting?
now understands Q's in close queue without comments..
@Seth most of the close queue stuff isn't me :P
@Seth i only do close voting when I'm using /review
so... :P
Oh..
18:34
@Seth fixed with a refresh
@TheLordofTime Good :P
now give me my $20.
@TheLordofTime you forgot to mention the FAQ
@Seth if you're going to call me out on each of my failures when I post something, I'll go back to closevote without commenting
unless you want to give me $20 so I can tolerate you
lol. Sorry.
18:37
@Seth i didn't have the syntax for links nor the FAQ link handy at the time
hands @TheLordofTime $21 dollars
i INTENTIONALLY posted without the FAQ link so it would be there
@TheLordofTime What is the syntax?
so when I edit it I could have the data and sytnax on hand
therefore something WOULD have been there for a comment until I had the FAQ
[blah](foobar.com)
so [FAQ](http://askubuntu.com/faq)
@TheLordofTime You can just use FAQ
18:39
don't care? :P
Err, [FAQ]
/me wanted to be specific
It's just easier.
besides, it retrains me to the in-line-link syntax
oh, that's cool
18:39
@TheLordofTime Oh, OK then.
gotta run..

if you email those two emails (i'll delete once you copy them somewhere), my cell will get the text, and my tablet will also ding (the latter). email both to make sure I get it. If something like that happens again.
waits for his phone to explode
@jrg Yeah, I have a special email like that too that sends an SMS directly to my phone.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison yup. now all you Canadians can get ahold of me.
It truncates the email after about 200 characters or so, however. So it has limited usefulness.

@jrg That so needs to be on damnyouspellcheck. not because it's spellcheck related, but because it's text message hilarity
brief aside, did your nagios SMS script actually have "i'm scared" ai logic built in, or is that the "all things related to nagios monitoring use this email" account.
jrg
jrg
no, that screenshot is from a presentation someone gave at puppetconf.
oh. that's pretty awesome.

yeah, but how is trying to pen-test my own system not legit??? I just want to know if it's possible, not how to do it
I probably have excessive snark. It's just looking at the endgame of the question before you answer it.

Ok, I wasn't trying to be illegit.
@packpatfan, please don't suggest using sudo su, it's completely unnecessary, sudo -i is the recommended command if someone really needs a root-shell.
