@Seth yes it is. did you see the pwn2own results this year? everything went down
@AbrahamVanHelpsing No I didn't.
VUPEN owned everything
up to and including chrome...
Interesting.
=)
I was so glad when I saw Chrome had fallen.
It is time.
17:27
chrome falls every year, it's just whether it falls on the dance-floor with code disclosure required or not.
3
@FEichinger was it you or @jrg that was saying the problem was you couldn't FIND the good FOSS apps? This is one possible solution video.linux.com/videos/…
user19161
@RolandiXor What do you mean?
Hi @JacobBlack :)
@JacobBlack because it's time for Chrome and its minions to get off their high horse.
No browser is immune to vulnerabilities.
user19161
@RolandiXor You mean Firefox is on top again?
@JacobBlack Hey, I have your email id.
Again? Firefox has always been on top.
user19161
17:36
@jokerdino My email? OK. You can email me if you wanna tell me any secrets.
Firefox is more awesome than cookies.
And we're on a religious discussion ;) - that being said I'm a chrome follower
@JacobBlack Yeah, sending you some zip files.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing :O
user19161
@jokerdino What? Zip files? OMG!
17:36
You dirty, nasty, Chrome user!
grabs Firefox Cannon
Bring it!
user19161
WTF are you sending me???
technically chromium, but chrome by proxy
@JacobBlack dont spoil the surprise. ;)
Chromium is the servant of Firefox.
user19161
@jokerdino OK, but zip files sound really weird...
17:38
@RolandiXor that your opinion and you're entitled to it
We need more black avatars...
@AbrahamVanHelpsing :D
There is only one true browser, and it is Firefox.
@JacobBlack picobomb
Heaven runs Firefox infinity.
i'm not letting a mod troll me... ;) anyway. moving on.

xD
@AbrahamVanHelpsing ♥
user19161
17:40
Chrome is less responsive in chat on my Debian.
Chrome eats babies and mashes kittens.
and there is no Firefox in Debian too
yes there is. it's called iceweasel
they call it the iceweasel
Iceweasel (awesome name)
user19161
17:41
Yeah I use Iceweasel, though I can use Mozilla Firefox too.
Ice ftw!
user19161
@joker When are you sending me the stuff?
it has to do with the FF dev team getting their knickers in a twist over debian applying fixes before they are applied upstream. No. We want you to leave your users vulnerable to problems while we slip it into our patch cycle.
@JacobBlack still preparing the zip bomb. wait a while please.
user19161
@jokerdino OK, but I am curious what it is, considering I don't know you at all...
17:43
@AbrahamVanHelpsing wasn't it to do with branding?
@RolandiXor nope
63
Q: How does one make a Zip bomb?

pufferfishThis question about zip bombs naturally led me to the Wikipedia page on the topic. The article mentions an example of a 45.1 kb zip file that decompresses to 1.3 exabytes. What are the principles/techniques that would be used to create such a file in the first place? I don't want to actually do ...

user19161
Oh please don't play a trick on me.
user19161
17:45
I think I won't get your email then.
iirc it was originally forked b/c someone applied a patch to fix a bug report and it didn't make its way upstream fast enough an mozilla was irritated.
user19161
@AbrahamVanHelpsing It's because of the licensing I think.
user19161
@joker No tricks from you.
user19161
I only welcome emails of friendship, not trick bombs.
17:47
fine then. dropping you a friendly polar bear.
@JacobBlack saying because of licensing doesn't disagree. "you must submit patches upstream before applying them" would fall under that umbrella. i'm just not sugar coating it as licensing.
user19161
Ah I change my username in four hours...
Ah, saves me sending the email ;)
@JacobBlack There you have the content of the never to be sent email.
Hey guys I'd like to know which program you used to decrypt the OpenPGP message you received when you assigned the ubuntu code of conduct
@Zignd didn't they give you instructions?
i used the terminal one
17:49
@AbrahamVanHelpsing I believe that was both of us, but ... that sure looks promising.
user19161
@joker Did you say you are in charge of Ubuntu GNOME respin?
@JacobBlack no
i was about to contribute but got other distractions.
user19161
@jokerdino Such as a beautiful girl?
Hmm, no.
@Zignd i used what was in the instructions, but the mozilla email client has a plug-in. i'm waiting for a google email client.
17:56
I've used evolution but it didn't work correctly. Can you tell me the plugin name?
(Grammar - must fix!)
Thanks for the links @jokerdino @AbrahamVanHelpsing
Is this "Grammar must fix" for me?
Just donate to the Aliens foundation. Thank you.

1 hour later…
19:02
Now I understand why Mediawiki decided to go for Ubuntu Server on all of its servers back in 2008. Landscape is just f*$%in awesome!
@OctavianDamiean Seems interesting, but I've never had occasion to use it
@AbrahamVanHelpsing You can try it for free for 30 days.
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing both of us were discussing that. Bookmarked, thanks!
I used landscape to compare it. It needs an open source version.
Yea, true that.
jrg
jrg
19:12
Puppet + foreman gets choose, but not close enough.
If I ever have to manage multiple Ubuntu machines in a company I'm definitely going to go for Landscape.
jrg
jrg
19:28
Eh. I wasn't that impressed.
If I wasn't technically savvy, I could see the attraction. But meh.
@jrg you were a proponent of skywalk yes?
@jrg @jrg and if you want the list of all talks from that con: linuxgizmos.com/embedded-linux-conference-2013-videos
jrg
jrg
Spacewalk, interesting project.
yes that
any thoughts on this one? askubuntu.com/questions/265972/…
Can someone please tell me what's the secret phrase? There is a default one?
@Zignd on live?
19:38
I even now if I have configured mine
@AbrahamVanHelpsing There is a default one?
on live or not. it's a yes or no question
it's a question
?
@jrg is that the one that died or a new attempt to raise funding for the same thing
jrg
jrg
19:41
@AbrahamVanHelpsing died.
I've got $150-200 earmarked for the guy who can show me a MIT-licensed demo and wants to take it further.
Aka, my current life savings
buy dirt instead. i'm looking at cheap west texas dirt: landwatch.com/Hudspeth-County-Texas-Land-for-sale/pid/144014709 for example
@jrg what makes you like MIT license?
20:20
@OctavianDamiean: Oh, I was having some problems with the Android filesystem. Apparently I can't do chmod() on external storage - only in my app's private storage area.
But that's okay.
any thoughts on whether or not you're going to do the tar thing?
Not yet.
Up until this week, I have never written a Java app / program / script / whatever-it-is.
java is overly painful for what it accomplishes
I'd much rather that Google had gone with Python for writing apps.
hello everyone.
how goes it.
20:31
@GeorgeEdison they did. it's called appengine
has anyone seen a standalone mbr and partition table parser in python?
there was some work by a lady that works on volatility, but it requires distorm.
21:15
That would be interesting. What exactly do you mean by reading the MBR?
Isn't it as simple as grabbing the first 512 bytes of /dev/sda as root?
forensic image of hda/sda. a parser that reads locations so i can find 0-4 etc and yes, it could be simple i just don't want to replicate work

1 hour later…
jrg
jrg
22:19
@AbrahamVanHelpsing i'm a young, idealistic kid, remember?
idealism is not contrary to a business model. i was just asking what specifically you like about it as opposed to other licenses
@AbrahamVanHelpsing i'm going to just leave this here, because (1) you seem to be discussing FOSS licensing, and (2) meh.
This is a comparison of published free software licenses. General comparison The following table compares various features of each license and is a general guide to the terms and conditions of each license. Note that a "yes" in either of the last two columns (Link with code using a different license and Release changes under a different license) is not an absolute answer, there may still be restrictions in the license related to this action. You should review the specific license terms and refer to the reference table for more details regarding a "yes" in these columns. {| class="wikita...
22:35
fair enough. also i just ordered a chef's choice package of $50 called gangster because for some reason chef's choice wasn't polite enough to be considered cool...
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing i like it because it gives me basic freedoms to modify, tinker, etc without having to share.
and for many changes i make, i don't want to share, because i never finish them.
either way, i was just saying, what differentiates it from say the apache license? i'm just asking.
also "sushi on the way for the WIN"
jrg
jrg
i'm ok with the apache.
i just pick on the MIT/Expat and BSD licenses because they are two of the more popular ones.
i'm okay with any license. it depends on circumstances. saying no use this for commercial purposes is fine for a starving developer, but when corps with huge projects use it i get a little upset. make sense?
jrg
jrg
yup
ok, now i'm hoping that paypal accepts this vanilla visa, otherwise i'm going to be really pissed.
22:43
they will
jrg
jrg
yeah, i'm pissed. they didn't.
wait what?
if the apple store accepts it for registration (retarded that i have to have a credit card number to download free apps, but that's a whole different thing), then paypal will
jrg
jrg
Yeah, apple accepts it, I just tested.
What are we testing?
jrg
jrg
22:44
@TheLordofTime you know what i mean. they did deny it.
i tested that on friday. had to pay money to install free apps
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison watching me go through the trouble of having to buy something online.
@jrg no, i didn't know what you mean. hence me pointing this all out.
@jrg Why is that difficult?
jrg
jrg
22:45
it's rather fun, no?
@GeorgeEdison in a word, paypal.
@Flabricorn hi! We still on for tonight?
@jrg Uh-oh. Now you have me worried. I plan to sell my Android app soon.
paypal may require an initial charge and clearance which might not be on your vanilla until later
Anyone feel like reviewing edits?
@jrg Quite so!
jrg
jrg
22:46
@Flabricorn good!
i'll bring the papers.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing I'm fine with that. Someone could get some badges though.
i got the sheriff the other day
Nice :)
Gah.
That's the second one of those today.
"I didn't ask the question, but here's more info"
22:49
i'm so taking a photo of the sushi tray that costs 50 bucks plus delivery...anyway, the curry is a bonus that didn't seem worth passing up. i really just wanted chef's choice sushi
jrg
jrg
well, that can be useful.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing :D
how much sushi is on this tray?
@Flabricorn also, final detail: We are not going out for pizza every day this summer.
The thing with the "I didn't ask the question, but here's more info" edits is that they're - in theory - exactly what "Yeh, that's a dupe close" results in.
jrg
jrg
I'm sick of pizza.
@jrg i would suspect a large amount
jrg
jrg
and it's expensive.
22:49
sushicoma
@AbrahamVanHelpsing I wonder what you call a "large amount".
@jrg Ha, gotcha.
jrg
jrg
user image
3
that looks good man. and i don't like sushi.
@jrg That's about as much as you get for 50 bucks over here.
less than 9 times the $6 tray from harris teeter. more than half of the same
22:52
@jrg Sick of pizza? What on earth for?
jrg
jrg
@Flabricorn yeah, so we'll like, learn to cook pasta or something.
@FEichinger that's not his tray. found it on the googletubes.
@jrg I know, and I sure hope he gets more than that.
Ugh. I can't stand that bad grammar.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison too many long days at work, where we just ordered 3 pizzas.
i mean, i'm ok with good stuff, but the thing just down the street is like ew.
Oh, okay.
Tip: you can save money by buying those frozen pizzas at the supermarket and just throwing one in the oven when you're hungry. Oh, and they taste good too.
jrg
jrg
22:53
it's not bad, but not good.
ramen noodles
@jrg what about my pull :P
jrg
jrg
yeah, that's on our list of potential stuff. we can save even more once the garden starts producing.
@mateo_salta instant ramen is awesome.
@FEichinger that.
22:54
@GeorgeEdison not here. it's cheaper to order delivery than fire up the oven
jrg
jrg
@Seth fine, you greedy impatient githubber. ;)
yes, you can get merged too. ;P
Seriously? Up here, if you shop smart, you can get each pizza for around $5.
jrg
jrg
the hot ones across the street are $5/pop.
@jrg Thanks. watches gmail watcher go crazy..
5 bucks a day for the extent of 3+ months = more cash than we want to spend on food we could bring from home for free.
22:56
@GeorgeEdison Wow ... I get 3 frozen pizzas for €3.50 across the street.
average here is $6-8 so if you average in cooking time and take into account the fact that a larger delivery pizza is at least double the circumference ... just saying
jrg
jrg
that's $450, yeah, we're not spending that much.
@Flabricorn i'll learn to gasp actually cook like, pasta.
and beans, and rice.
Okay, I see there are some price differences here.
@Jrg Beans and rice and pasta == awesomeness.
Two medium pizzas from a local pizza place here would be easily $30.
22:57
Plus throw in some tuna.
jrg
jrg
yup. ;)
face palm
Couscous, beans - awesome.
Sushi is insanely expensive over here ... frozen pizza? Cheap as hell. Local pizza place? €5 ea., I believe.
@jrg My bet is on a food poisoning.
jrg
jrg
@FEichinger hey, guys.
22:58
=P
I set up a netflix box with this old tablet PC, it wouldn't boot from USB drive so I had to stick with Win7... and now... it will never... ever... load.
jrg
jrg
i did work in an industrial kitchen, if i survived cooking and eating that for two summers, then i can keep @Flabricorn and I from getting killed. ;P
@FEichinger Cheaper here. If you get the eww stuff that is.
@Seth Well, for the most part, we don't even have eww stuff. :P
jrg
jrg
so now i'm going to go read cooking.SE, and hopefully find something good. :)
3
23:00
lol
you could always buy a bag of rice, and a steam-cooker (got mine for $20)
@FEichinger if my food intake were determined by price, i would either not eat, or be on a permanent hummus diet
jrg
jrg
@mateo_salta looking into that, yeah.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing On the other hand, Hummus is awesome.
@FEichinger Lucky you :P
hummus is okay. certainly not my "omg thanks for bringing hummus to the party" dish, but not worth turning down either
23:02
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Make it yourself. It's waaay better.
Just sayin.
@jrg April 26th and 26th? that is the same day...
@Seth there was a great restraunt in new bern that had blackbean hummus and chips as a side instead of fries
jrg
jrg
can i not type
no, i can't.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing yum.
@jrg type you cannot. -- yoda
23:03
Physical typing is for losers. Telepathic typing is the new in-thing.
2
jrg
jrg
yeah, i really need to get a CMS.
Build. One.
@jrg That's full of typos.
Shouldn't that commit message at least have a period at the end and a capital Y at the front?
23:07
it's better than git commit -m "blarg. see commit changes"
jrg
jrg
user image
6
git commit -m "typostypostypostypostyopstypostypostypostoypstypostypos"
i once posted a commit that was described as "because git doesn't suck"
jrg
jrg
@AbrahamVanHelpsing wait, backtrack has been renamed?
@jrg I don't care what your cat thinks.
Does he know English?
23:08
@Seth he knows engrish
@AbrahamVanHelpsing I am inclined to agree with you.
@jrg Talking about this?
jrg
jrg
@FEichinger yeah
Backtrack tracks forward. Err, something like that.
@jrg is there a place to sleep there, I'm trying to figure out if I can make it to your class
jrg
jrg
23:11
@mateo_salta we have some couches.
sounds comfy enough.
jrg
jrg
more than 1.
so, I just need to see if I can carve out the time.
Well I'm going to Idaho. Need to go find my BSU cap (ping @JorgeCastro >:) )
BBL.
23:24
Oh, btw, did I mention that Europe works on aiding singularity again? Oh, also we have a death ray and the LHC. You sure you still like us, rest of the Earth?
Not to forget the awesomeness of negative absolute temperature. I like to think these won't all at some point be combined into Skynet, but I think I might be wrong on that.
also, the 50 bucks was totally worth it
23:44
sushi and green curry was delicious...moving on
