20:00
yeah!
@MarcoCeppi fast work
@MarcoCeppi you need an 11.04 tag
Quick fingers
Boom
time for the painful dist-upgrade in the natty VM
haven't done it since last week, it'll take awhile
only 203MB to upgrade, people rushing to beat the beta 2 freeze
beta 2 freeze... i can already smell the oneiric toolchain upload :P
20:06
that's the boring part
thing won't get interesting until the debian autosync starts up again & new stuff trickles in from sid
why were you expecting it to be there?
i wasn't ;)
still plenty of work to be done on natty to get it ready for release
don't be impatient :)
@ajmitch Like what?
20:09
it's still two weeks
so yeah :)
@GeorgeEdison there are still a number of bugs which can be fixed, especially in universe where the freeze requirements aren't quite so hard
qa.ubuntuwire.org/bugs/rcbugs/natty is a semi-useful tool for seeing what's been fixed in debian & could be fixed in ubuntu (if the bug is relevant)
bah, 'vtk' - had nothing but troubles with it
but nice link, thanks for sharing!
how annoying, alt-printscreen just gave me a screenshot of the desktop background :)
heh, printscreen got captured by the host desktop, rather than the guest
20:27
you also shouldn't try ctrl-alt-backspace ;)
don't know how often i killed the host session that way
@htorque No, you never should do that. For VBox, you can use [Host Key]+F1.
@GeorgeEdison i know but i always forget about it
Hey, I found a new way to reboot a running system.
> echo b > /proc/sysreq-trigger
@Takkat damn, 3 answers nearly the same within a minute :P
@GeorgeEdison a very unclean way of rebooting a system
@ajmitch I know that :P
20:29
@GeorgeEdison shouldn't you echo r, e, i, s, u before that? ;)
Yeah, you could... but if you can run commands, restart might be easier.
@ajmitch this is why I try to write my answer first, then come in here and ask someone to ask, hehe
@JorgeCastro yeah I think I should just delete mine, it's a bit redundant
/me chalks up another question in our
we have the best docs for unity out of everyone. :)
@JorgeCastro in case of the shortcuts question you lost a gold badge :P
20:32
shrug
should have asked it yourself
how'd the gold badge disappear?
yeah but you get the gold badge!
undeserved! ;)
it's community wiki
20:33
you get badges even if it's CW
@ajmitch no, he asked me to post the question, he should be the one to get the gold badge for it (and AFAIK you do get that badge for community wikis too - i already got a bunch of badges for that question)
I'm close to getting one for "How to use PPAs" or whatever
I haven't asked any questions yet, I'm such a bad person :)
wow, 500+ views in a day - seems people like to know about unity :)
here's one
/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p
"How do I know if my video card can run unity?"
the wiki page and jay's blog
20:37
@JorgeCastro ok, I'll ask it, if I can think up some witty question text
Hi all
@Takkat good evening
0
Q: How do I know if my video card can run unity?

ajmitchI have an oldish laptop which has some 3D graphics support, how do I know if this will be enough for Unity to run?

i915 baby
@ajmitch it was a pain to take the shots :P
that laptop I refer to is still running hardy, too
20:38
bah Daily vote limit reached; vote again in 3 hours.
@Takkat yes I know, I was doing it :P
@ajmitch I saw it - was nearly the same time.
needed to restore my alpha snapshot first - still no luck with the beta here.
20:51
@ajmitch hahaha
doomed again
@JorgeCastro hm?
someone posted an answer
@JorgeCastro yeah I was expecting that
I don't mind for that, as long as the answer was right
question is answered
I added a bit to it
I doubt that my poor i915 chipset in the old laptop will be able to run unity anyway, I don't think I'll have enough RAM :)
20:59
that should work I think
it's i8xx that is totally doomed
21:13
How do I know if my video card can run unity? http://bit.ly/h8GD5k #unity
@ajmitch Good job @AskUbuntuTwitter likes your question
how surprising
@Daniel0108 no need to leave your name after every message, the site places a usercard for you, feel free to update your answers!
I like using the chat as a poor man's IM
21:40
i like that theme change
(tabs + tab borders are dark now)
now they just need to get rid of that gripper thing. we now have an invisible resize border around windows, so why is it still there? :-)
hey question
is it samba 4 in natty?
I forgot to check that too :D
(still upgrading packages by hand)
nvm figured it out now
22:03
:/
lonely
@RolandTaylor still upgrading? it shouldn't take that long
my internet...
:P
and I have like 5000+ packages installed, like 2000 to upgrade
true, I did upgrade at home, was able to pull packages from an NZ mirror at about 1.6MB/sec
ADSL2+, but with a 20GB monthly data cap
22:06
my internet maxes out at about 150kbps
I don't have a data cap :D
Anyone watch NCIS in here?
@Jacob: Have you had a chance to set up access to the data app?
@GeorgeEdison I'm thinking of the best way
BTW
ask timmy mcgee :P
22:13
I'm getting as bigger block of IPs tomorrow the server will go down until I get home to renumber the servers
@htorque Have you seen the episode call "bikini wax" I notice there Is a Virginia Beach PD car( I mean, exactly like the one I'd see on the street) but they shoot in cali, I want to figure out how that works, as the set is in cali too notice the palm trees
oh, that's an old episode - i do watch it, but i'm no hardcore fan
@htorque Still I'm curious how they pulled that off
can't they use 1:1 copies as props or is there a legal issue?
@htorque not my point, the thing is Virginia beach is 3K miles from cali
and that set is California, I know the layout of all the beaches here
maybe try to ask your question here: tv.com/ncis/show/16772/forums.html?tag=page_nav;forums
or is there a tv series stackexchange site? :P
22:20
@Jacob: -----^
How's that for design?
I got the API part of it working now.
cool
I don't have the user IDs yet, though :)
I'm thinking the SF logo with some red/freehand challenge?
@GeorgeEdison sorry bro, I get on that :)
@htorque I checked :)
@JorgeCastro you seem to have the answers to many of your own questions :)
good nigth, everyone!
22:35
@JorgeCastro for an LP project - unity-launchpad-lens or unity-lens-launchpad? :)
@Jacob Almost there...
@GeorgeEdison Yep, I almost have your list too
greetings
@EvilPhoenix Greeting ubuntuling
22:48
lol
@Jacob Thanks!
@GeorgeEdison anything I can do to help?
(else)
Not at the moment.
@Jacob 'tis at 198 committed, 99% of the way to the beta stage
Soo close
22:50
w00t, add another 7 successes to my abuse@ pwnage streak :P I took out 7 craigslist scammers today ;P
i'm insanely bored
so i go hunting after scammers and report them :P
and being stuck with a piece of crap computer for 3 days didn't help my boredom, so I had nothing better to do :P
lets just say that there's now enough abuse emails that i've sent in to various email companies (gmail, hotmail, live.com, etc.) to be considered a cyber-security guy who takes down people who try to defraud people and get credit card info
@Jacob: ------^
Got the names added.
@GeorgeEdison awesomes
@GeorgeEdison Need help?
The only thing I can think of is perhaps some sort of URL I can retrieve the up-to-datelist from.
For example, if another user joins, all you have to do is update a file on your server.
Once that person's ID is added, then it will show up on all of the clients.
22:56
@GeorgeEdison hmm
I'll get my logo idea to you soon to see if you like it
@GeorgeEdison mind if I get the source?
I want to look at it
and setup its hosting
I think Challenge.meta.so will work hehe
23:07
@ajmitch the packagename will likely be unity-lens-blah
so I guess that will work
HMm
now 2 things left
1 setup table via leaders
2 setup rep graph?
agreed?
What's the table via leaders?
@GeorgeEdison like set the left table to set by how is in the lead.
who**
@Jacob Ah, yes.
That would be nice.
Also I assume you want to post this page of pure and applied awesomeness on stack apps? or maybe I can sneak in there and do it, with your name all over it because of course you wrote it?
so I can update it when we change stuff?
BTW
23:16
@Jacob Sure, we'll get it on StackApps.
That account is comming right up
I already got an API key.
@GeorgeEdison I was going to register for one, as this might get a decent amount of hits, and I don't want your stuff to crash
Alright
@ajmitch wrt. to my question, I am self documenting!
ready for you info? Its in your inbox
23:20
Thanks.
still upgrading :/
Get it?
I'll give you a login to my monitor server ASAP also
@Jacob Yup, working great!
A thing popped up "Connect to Server"
Is that your script?
@GeorgeEdison hm?
@Jacob So is the app running right now?
Do I need to start it?
23:26
@GeorgeEdison sorry to interrupt, but that is your browser
@RolandTaylor Wha...?
file/web browser - both do it (if you are connecting to a server)
@RolandTaylor I'm not even running Ubuntu right now... :)
lol
are you on windows?
Good old Vista.
23:28
haha, well - it also happens on vista (I know this from experience)
@RolandTaylor What does?
returns to lair
What are we talking about?
returns to chat
the popup "connect to server"
returns to his lair
I was referring to something completely different.
23:29
nvm
goes to @RolandTaylor's lair.
:P
I kinda interrupted there... getting bored and lonely from all this upgrading :/
soz
see my message @GeorgeEdison
Yup, I saw it.
Oy...!
thats the web directory for you
I should limit you... but I trust you
23:32
Okay, so the challenge stuff goes in there?
ye
Question... is the AU server running?
...or do I have to start it?
Its running under my user
I'll kill it
you start it
Thanks.
Sorry, one more thing... will it stay running when I log out?
Or do I just close the RDP session?
(This is the first time I've ever used RDP...)
@GeorgeEdison Yes it will
jusat close
Donot logout
23:36
It's running now.
'
:)
Regarding the challenge stuff... what URL can I access it under?
In about 20 seconds
challenge.meta.so
should work now
wait I need DNS
now..
@Jacob Afraid it's not working.
It's challenge.meta.so right?
@GeorgeEdison is there a document in there?
23:46
Nope.
@GeorgeEdison its working fine then :)
@GeorgeEdison I'm off too eat BRB
