@RolandTaylor Hello
jrg
jrg
@Flabricorn sup?
jrg
jrg
01:14
anyone know if a underage person can own a LLC?
@jrg: I doubt so
depends on the country so
jrg
jrg
@JourneymanGeek I know I can do a sole proprietorship, just want to do something a little more substantial and flexible.
jrg
jrg
if it didn't cost money, i'd install it and let you know how useful it is.
@Flabricorn hey
jrg
jrg
01:21
appears the answer is "yes and no" - answers.onstartups.com/questions/39916/…
@jrg: quite honestly, I'd probably talk to the agency you do the filing with to confirm
jrg
jrg
@JourneymanGeek i will, definitely.
I just want to get a feel for how likely it is for me to be able to do this, before I start other wheels in motion.
the issue here is the contracts you sign may not be legally binding
jrg
jrg
since while I can stop them, I'd rather not if I don't have to.
could you do it under a parent's name?
jrg
jrg
01:24
i'd rather not do it under dads company, he doesn't have time to do the required stuff.
I know I can do a sole proprietorship, and then for the purposes of the law I become 18. I'd rather do an LLC though, since it makes hiring my buddies so much easier.

I see a Canadian blackout coming.

<--- thinks GE is gone nuts :>
How come?
01:39
He means the general election ofcourse.
Oooooh. I thought GE == "George Edison".

jrg
> (3) The directors shall be natural persons of at least eighteen years of age and shall have such qualifications, if any, as are stated in the articles or the regulations.
ahh shucks.
Wonder if I could file in Delaware or something...
@GeorgeEdison it does :D
jrg

Except there is need to make more than $300/year in order to pay the taxes... blech.

Q: Characters missing in console

ShagunI am working on implementation of an SIC-XE assembler with my friends. Those guys are using windows and codeblocks while I am using ubuntu 12.04 and codeblocks(both using version (10.05). This is a piece of code used to print values from an input file. It is working fine in windows but when I use...

any idea ?
@jrg got a new gravatar...
@jrg You should offer your services as an independent contractor and since you're 16, as long as you pick the right customer they shouldn't rat you out.
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Yes, he did.
Have you guys taken a look at the Honeynet Project?
there's a neat honeyusb project somewhere, but i've been busy with work and the commute
what's that blob off the coast of china?
03:26
Which one, Japan or South Korea?
neither. the malware probe blob
Oh the conglomeration of red dots.
Dunno, maybe the island is so small the dots cover the land illustration.
i swear nato...those ip addresses originated from a ship in international waters...
Oh, you know what, you're probably right.
how is no phishing malware probe originating from africa???
system.is.obviously.flawed.
okay. up at 0 dark thirty. time for sleep
03:31
Same.
Actually.
Work.
Goodnight.
hey all, I installed ubuntu server and then decided to install the gnome desktop on top of it so I ran a sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
go on
but now everytime i log in, it automaticlaly logs me to the desktop not the terminal
i know that i can launch the terminal from within the desktop
you get to lightdm?
but I like how before it would just take me to the command prompt
right
@jokerdino thats where its taking me now
03:43
but you want to boot into tty instead?
ok wish i know the answer offhand
its not the end of world, but I liked how if i wanted to go to desktop then I would just run a simple command
and then when I logged out of desktop, it returned me back to tty
thanks
By the way, has anyone read the book "A practical guide to linx commands, editors, and shell programming". I skimmed through it and it appeared more friendly than the" linux in a nutshell" book, which seemed to just be a list of commands
03:50
is it free?
no neither are
04:23
well i had no luck searching in askubuntu unfortunately
oh
ok, what exactly is the problem?
my problem may be more with ssl than with postfix, i'm not sure...
i myself know very little about ssl and postfix :(
i'm just trying to figure out if postfix is recognising my certificate
that may or may not be useful
04:26
i'll give it try then. thanks again :)
04:45
hey guys/gals
I'm trying to install (dual boot with W7) ubuntu 12.04 on my Samsung Series 7 laptop, but the installer can't see my windows install
that is bad
shows /dev/sda (main drive) as free space
tried dmraid tricks to no avail
yea, it's not good :-)
are you on live media?
04:46
yes, I'm using live CD. Same happens with 12.10, btw
might want to check sudo fdisk -l
weirdly enough, disk utility does see windows partition
fdisk -l shows the right partitions
but the installer can't see them
stupid installer :|
is there a more advanced installer I can use?
there is alternate installer for 12.04
look for alternate
it's a text mode installer
04:49
is there a key I need to press during boot?
That sounds fun.
@MK_Dev it is a different ISO altogether
for 12.10, live and alternate are combined though
ah, I'll try 12.10
have that CD too
good luck
thanks!
for 12.10, though, do I need to press anything for Alternate install?
04:52
i am not sure actually
i would press f6 when the small man shows up
@MK_Dev as i can remember, you have to press [ESC] while booting
I'll try it out
good thing we have users covering for my noobness :)
Don't be ridiculous from a user of my stature you're a pro.
@jokerdino it seems you don't have a noobness :) you seem to be a professional
04:56
despite what it seems, i know very little :(
But you learn quite a bit
see
from what you just said, you now know that.
As do I.
isn't it pretty late for you BTW?
Quite.
04:57
someone's talking about noobs? :-)
@MK_Dev we are
@MK_Dev You don't count. :)
@jokerdino Dinner guests, working late. Just about finished.
@Flabricorn I see.
I guess you won't wake up all too early tomorrow.
same stuff with 12.10. This machine came with Windows 8, I wonder whether that had anything to do with it
Win 8 yes
There was some problem with win 8 not getting detected.
05:00
@MK_Dev stop. UEFI?
thing is, I installed Win 7 (having completely reformatted the drive)
yes, but running in the "other" mode (so Win7 can boot)
@jokerdino No, I'll be up at the usual time... But tomorrow shall be a more productive day, no spontaneous guests... and maybe some melatonin for sleeping because I'm running off the second shot of coffee.
good luck. :)
Thank you. What part of the world do you live in?
@MK_Dev I recall at least one other question where installer not recognising windows 8 partition
@Flabricorn GMT+8, Singapore.
Literally the other half of your world.
05:03
appears
@jokerdino Incredible.
Alright, I'm off to sleep, goodnight everyone!
currently set to CSM OS in the bios. Windows 7 eventually installed fine, after messing with Secure Boot (off), Fast boot (off) and OS Mode
@Flabricorn good night
@Flabricorn good night. Thanks for your help
@MK_Dev It seems to be a problem with secure sector... But I'm not the expert
05:04
My help? Think it was all Joker, but awright. I can't remember anyway right now. :)
Hey all
I'm not the expert either. Anyway, biab for lunch.
@AmithKK Morning)
@Flabricorn Good Night
Hello @titusjaka
@MK_Dev send here the output of fdisk -l command
05:08
one sec, live cd is still loading
@MK_Dev ok :)
I hope that will make sense :-)
I have to add that when I was installing Windows 7, I allocated enough free space for Ubuntu (as evident from the fdisk result)
@MK_Dev wait a minute :) work doesn't let to forget about it
@titusjaka haha, I hear you
Power Down
BBL
05:22
later
@MK_Dev ok
as I understand, the reason in that sentance The util fdisk doesn't support GPT
so, you should rebuild your partitions for GUID
In computer hardware, GUID Partition Table (GPT) is a standard for the layout of the partition table on a physical hard disk. Although it forms a part of the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) standard (Intel's proposed replacement for the PC BIOS), it is also used on some BIOS systems because of the limitations of MBR partition tables, which uses 32 bits for storing logical block addresses and size information. For disks with 512-byte sectors, the MBR partition table entries allow up to a maximum of 2.20 TB (2.20 × 1012 bytes) or 2 TiB−512 bytes (2,199,023,255,040 bytes or 4,294,967,295 (...
you could do it with gdisk
hmm, I think you're right. GParted also freaks out
maybe gparted can do so, but I'm not sure
I'll dig some more
thanks a lot for your help!
@MK_Dev As I found on a Russian forum the reason of this issue is that Win7/8 build bad partitons. And you can try to solve it with gdisk
I never used it, but guys write that it's easy
good luck :)
05:29
can you send me the link? I understand Russian :-)
@titusjaka спасибо!
@MK_Dev ух ты)
@MK_Dev I hope you will solve your problem! Good luck!
and goodbye, my working morning goes out
again, thanks for your help
all the best
are you still around @jokerdino?
05:44
Yes. just came back.
cool.
i've gone through most of the link you posted
just a quick question (hopefully quick)
I think I only posted one.
I have time.
cool thanks
how would i pass a certificate password to postfix when starting it up?
all i can do is search it on Google. ~_~
sweet! running "fdisk --zap /dev/sda" fixed it! There were leftovers of GPT table after replacing Windows 8 with Windows 7
thanks all!
05:55
Yay
installation started. at last!

Q: ubuntu 12.10 installer doesn't see windows 8 partitions

greg606I want to install ubuntu 12.10 after windows 8 but ubuntu I installer doesn't even see windows partitions. What should I do? Disk tool in ubuntu correctly recognizes partions.

once done, please answer that question.
i'll have a look thanks
07:03
Let's hope someone can answer it.
@MK_Dev glad to hear it :)
07:55

@StefanoPalazzo Good Morning

@Takkat Hello
Hi @AmithKK :)
Hello
Hi @njallam
08:46
@njallam Hello
I'm so disappointed with 12.10 :(
Why, what is not working?
It seems much slower than 12.04
Really laggy
@njallam Time to shell out 100's of dollars for an upgrade
just a quick reminder: the ask ubuntu session at UDS was moved to 11:00 local time, 10:00 UTC (that's in an hour). The IRC channel is #ubuntu-uds-b4-m9
08:48
who changed my display name?
no idea where the live video stream will be
@njallam Many people say that. i cant judge because i have it only in a VM. There indeed its playing Catch the Snail with me
or come to the XFCE since we have cake
@AmithKK Trust me, it's not my specs
@Takkat Well, I am also running it VM ATM
I opened (with shaking brave heart) ccsm to disable all fancy special effects. Its much better then.
08:52
I suppose I still need to test it on a real system
Also I suppose VirtualBox isn't able to make full use of my GPU.
<-- does not dare to do install on bare metal
The only machine I would do that is the machine my kids play their games. Imagine what happens when i break these...
Are the Humble Bundle games available in 12.10 btw?
<-- still waiting for Vessel
@njallam that's my impression too (here its Nvidia).
@Takkat NVIDIA here too
However the GTX550Ti seems to hate Ubuntu.
Nvidia has too many issues recently :"(
But still, we do have a lot of question from people breaking their OS with FGLRX...
@Takkat yeah
Intel for the win - but you cant have these on a separate card, can you?
@AmithKK: great! One reasen less to not upgrade ;)
08:58
How many of you have applied for Steam for Linux Beta?
They are looking mainly for Linux Veterans
@Takkat I know this is wrong to ask but.. do you have Bit.trip runner?
@njallam I could
I saw that
@AmithKK I love that game :) - So frustrating though
I can't buy it now :(
But I need it :P
To show off
09:00
@AmithKK why should that be wrong to ask? No I haven't installed it. Kids said they dont like it...
Did you not get it in Humble Bundle?
@Takkat Awesome.. can you give it to me? :P
@njallam Yeah... I can't use my moneys now :P

Q: Cant finish upgrade from 11.10 to 12 on VPS based on Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, due to libc6

CarmageddonI was stuck with this problem near the end of an upgrade: WARNING: this version of the GNU libc requires kernel version 2.6.24 or later. Please upgrade your kernel before installing glibc. The installation of a 2.6 kernel could ask you to install a new libc first, this is NOT a bug...

It's not pirating if you are using an unused licence
US$ 7.99 is not really a fortune, is it?
09:02
No
But I am prohibited from using any money payments till my pre finals get over
That's like 1 mo away
<-- always is happy to support games made for Ubuntu. I put my slider on the dev side when purchasing Humble Bundles
@Takkat Same Here - Devs > Charity > Humble Tip - They all get some of my money though
there's a HIB going on now?
@AmithKK how does that go together with the finals?
@JourneymanGeek no, we are just talking about them in general
09:04
ahh
@Takkat Its like Ist Term>IInd term>Mid Term>Pre Final>Final
thinks he's gotten all but the android one (didn't have my phone then) and the latest one (didn't have anything in paypal then)
@JourneymanGeek and if they would survive an upgrade...
I brought One and Two
I've missed HIB1&2 (However I have got all the games from those in later bundles) and not paid more than average on HAB2
09:06
Taxes extra as applicable
Temporarily out of stock - back order for dispatch 05/12/2012
Great!
@AmithKK: got mine ;p
I'm still lacking the point of the Raspberry Pi.
@njallam: cheap hacky computer
@JourneymanGeek nice
@njallam make Computer
@JourneymanGeek I get those free out of Skips
09:08
Skips?
"Dumpsters" I believe is the translation
@njallam: low power, small size. Runs a regular OS
it pretty much covers the same niche the old BBC micros did
@JourneymanGeek and I suppose isn't covered in mud
its a great system to learn on
lol
@njallam Nope
09:10
@njallam: I have 3 salvaged systems, one of which is a dumpster diva
But if I want to program, I just fire up Eclipse.
Why do I need a tasty desert to do so?
but I still rather like the PI, once i get a better power supply for it
How about a low power media center
@AmithKK Ah, low power is the selling point.
I just took apart 2 old computers and stuck them together to make a media center
09:12
Well ok... :P
You win
Ooo nice ^
@njallam: I picked up a c2d from a dumpster, 2 gigs of ram, dead video card, no hard drive
I run windows 8, 7, xp and kubuntu on it ;p
nice
09:17
I may switch it over to a pure kubuntu desktop eventually
Kubuntu is a really good OS.
Can't believe Canonical dropped it, however is probably was for the best (no obnoxious shopping buttons)
So what is this event?
@njallam: they dropped everything but mainline
09:32
BBL
09:43
@njallam its the au session at uds
Ill post a link to the audio stream and irc channel in a few minufes
Maybe even video

Q: query application?

user1537727I was wondering if there was any single query application which could take in the question of the person then send it to all open source help related sites like askubuntu.com, stackoverflow.com, askfedora.com, linuxquestions, then fetch with the results of those asked questions in a simple way? I...

Hello guys
Just woke up after dreaming about lots of computer parts. Waking up was a deception.
Hi guys
10:01
Anyone on Ubuntu 12.10 here? I just uninstalled Thunderbird by mistake, and although I installed it, some features seem to be missing.
morning all
o/ morning Bruno
Morning
It's me: What features are missing?
get to IRC if you want to participate on the session
10:05
morning all
@Gladen see how the new contact window looks like: i.snag.gy/Y9kc8.jpg
It should look different with more tabs
Anyone know what Thunderbird addons are installed by default in Ubuntu 12.10?
Let
Let's see if I can access my Ubuntu installation from here.. At least in Firefox there is a special Ubuntu addon for Unity integration and such..
ok
@Gladen Look in Thunderbird > Tools > Add-ons if you can
My computer is turned off at home.. >.< But I did find an Ubuntu virtual machine here, starting it up now..
10:14
Oh, glad :)
jrg
jrg
@flabricorn: that's what my current work situation is. I need to have an entity for the other thing I'm looking to do though, so it's... Difficult.
@HussainTamboli Are you trying to setup Cron jobs?
Alright got it! Addons installed are :Global Menu Bar integration and Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration
Also check if the package thunderbird-globalmenu is installed on Ubuntu
Think that one installs those packages if I am right..
@Gladen okay, I will check
Ok. :)
10:22
@Achu no using upstart/initctl. sorry took some time to reply. was out.
@Gladen oh no, it's already installed... missing something else :(
Hm, strange..
Maybe a full reïnstall by doing sudo apt-get purge thunderbird and then reïnstalling it again? Else I don't know what could be the problem, sorry. :/
@HussainTamboli ok, i was trying to help if you are trying to accomplish cron jobs. Those are out of my knowledge. sorry :)
@Gladen I will try that, and thanks for trying to help :)
sorry I forgot about that. the audio stream is here: icecast.ubuntu.com:8000/b4-m9.ogg.m3u
10:27
@its_me Alright, no problem man!
@Gladen Okay found it. This package was missing 'xul-ext-lightning'
Now that I've installed it, everything look as it should
10:49
@Achu, so then how do I do it with cron?
@Achu I mean at the minimum it will try to check it per min. That doesn't seem like a good way.
@Achu there has to be another way to monitor such tasks. I don't even know if upstart can do it. I am trying to do it blindly.
Using Cron job you can run commands every min. like this:
*/1 * * * * /path/to/command
If you are new to cron job please read this first:
It's a good documentation
@Achu, I have been using cron for some time. I get my incremental backup using cron. But it is mostly for scheduled jobs. I am gonna have to check at least every min if the service or process is running . if not i am gonna have to restart it. but that doesn't seem like a good way. i don't know If everybody accepts this way?
