If you want to watch the hangout in each of the session's rooms
@MarcoCeppi - the UDS Meta times and headline are confusing now that you've edited it - what's the correct time 3pm CET or 4.15pm CET?
It's over
the session's are constantly being moved around
it's hard to say a week out when they show up
This is the AU session - its finished? I'll close the Meta Q then.
@fossfreedom yeah it's over. instead of closing, you could answer it with the appropriate link, or edit that in
'too localized' works as well ;-)
... confusion all around ... and hi @StefanoPalazzo - welcome back!
16:23

@StefanoPalazzo @BrunoPereira where are you guys hiding?
@RolandTaylor you can actually see me during the keynote
but you have to look hard :)
@MarcoCeppi I'm mostly listening lol, so I won't catch it till later on when I watch it again

U2rosI'm running Ubuntu server and playing around with Upstart. just thought i would share an amusing story...
I have a hubot setup on our company hipchat account, i gave him an cleverbot upgrade today - and productivity tanked. There has been literally no work done today. Give someone a robot to talk to and they will become self entertained for hours - now solicit them out of the blue with a robot, and they will get immediately disgusted and close the window

Q: DisplayPort monitor turns off when 2 monitors are used

greg606I have the motherboard "Gigabyte Z77x-ud3h" with a 3rd Gen Intel CPU with HD4000 graphics. I am using Ubuntu 12.10. "Look what the cat brought in!"
What active people?
It's an environment variable. If there are no active people, it returns the empty string.
I'm just a cat; give me a break. I only know Bash, and I didn't even use proper variable expansion syntax.
Lovely.
22:32
any mod around? should be
@fossfreedom @Oli please rename
I'll ping them when they come around.
Here comes the mouse.

Q: How to "ping" people who voted to close a question so they review their vote?

SergeyThis question was closed as off-topic - I believe it is not, maybe it was worded too vaguely or mentioned too many irrelevant details or something. Now, I edited the question to make it more direct and voted to re-open it. However, from my experience, once closed a question gets very little att...

@fossfreedom Hi, I see you just closed this question as too llocalized
yep - the user is suspended
ahh I didnt know
I just answered it, I thought he was a young man
But if he is suspended I see why
I'll give you a +1 for effort - there is no real way of knowing what he wanted - will have to wait until oct 2013
@fossfreedom Thanks, sure
@fossfreedom Curious to know, how a 12 year old (if thats what he is) gets suspended

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I HATE PYTHON. It is just counter-intuitive for me to not bracket loops, conditional blocks, and function definitions. I prefer PHP.
Okay.
@ObsessiveSSOℲ I completely agree!
I have to learn it for a uselessly easy CompSci course and I could not make an ASCII art pumpkin since it took 15 minutes to realize Pyton heredocs still require escaping backslashes.
PHP nowdocs aren't as annoying and I like PHP's OOP
I hope @AbrhamVanHelpsing won't be offended...
@ObsessiveSSOℲ Agreed on all of those.
@ObsessiveSSOℲ You're not alone. Also, TypeError. In production code. Seriously.
23:32
@ObsessiveSSOℲ: funny thing is thats exactly what I like about it, but thats just me
Sometimes I want to pull my hair out about pedantic compilers. Sometimes I'm glad I have them. Like when I get a Python or Ruby runtime error that wouldn't have even compiled in C or Java or C++ or C#.
23:44
@Joshua yeah :) Doing quite well actually
Pittsburgh's just had some crappy weather, no snow or anything threatening
uhm... @allquixotic i may be completely pedantic here - but ruby and python are both run through an interpreter
what you just listed as being run through a compiler, you are correct.
but remember, thats one of the strong points of a duck typed language, that you're flexible to interchange between types as you see fit. It's a double edged sword, what helps you can also hinder. so i see your point.
I came from a PHP/C# background and just recently got into ruby. I have to say, I had to change my thought pattern on what objects are. Since ruby is modeled after the smalltalk Object pattern. If you think of an object as just responding to messages, you will understand the wholeness that is ruby OOP
Quietly being the only one working with C++.
you're not alone - George Edison works in C++ fairly often.
I tried Ruby.
I then tried again. Every time I try to learn it I just get distracted... I got Hackety Hack thinking that might help (@jrg worked on that project.) and apparently with windows, it will spontaneously close often making progress "difficult".
i use vagrant when i'm on windows
Ruby just runs more fluidly in a unix environment. I cant quite explain it but i've tried time and again to get a solid ruby environment in win. I never achieve it or lose patience with it
so, vagrant to the rescue
Oooh, I'll look into that. Thanks!
23:58
NP
if you need a vagrantfile to provision the base box let me know. I have a few that i've distributed with some success at work.
as always its a work in progress
so YMMV
Sure. Thanks!
