@Joshua yeah, we're getting storms.
@Flabricorn nope, not really.
i got sidetracked into building my own wiki, and apps to solve my own problems.
like puppet scripts that will create redmine instances - granted, I'm not done with that, but i'm getting there... :)
that reminds me
oh crap, the sites are down ;p

Stack Exchange is currently doing a failover from NYC to their other data center. Don't panic. ETA is 1 hour, or 11PM EST.
@JourneymanGeek want a stackoverflow careers invite? I've got 50. :P
@jrg: couldn't hurt, but I've got nothing to put there for now

^fake, crappy, fake...
03:40
@jrg @Joshua you guys doing okay in terms of Sandy?
04:17
@RolandTaylor as far as I can tell it is only intermittently disrupting internet/cable service around here... I suspect a bunch of ran later this week though...
@Joshua cool

I know of unsecurities only..
Good, that's i meant ;)
Ohai
Outch - Sandy hit New York quite badly (: Hope they'll make it.
> It could take anywhere from 14 hours to four days to get the water out of the flooded subway tunnels
OH! NO!
morning guys :)
09:03
Hi @StefanoPalazzo
Oh man. America, I hope you're doing OK. -sent facebook prayers on facebook this morning-
Hey @StefanoPalazzo
@StefanoPalazzo Good evening.
Ask Ubuntu session is today..
09:07
At 1600 CET. That's like 6 hours away?
maybe I'll try to hook up the AU chat to the projector, if there are a lot of you here
otherwise just use irc. it's the future
I'll be on IRC. No problem.
@jokerdino yes
I'll try to attend the session if I don't fall asleep already.
there's another one tomorrow (I think)
09:09
The community one yes.
Looks like it is on Thursday.
<--- don't know what "Ask Ubuntu session" for
Wah. Why can't I see my usb in gparted? D:
@jokerdino Thanks
10:00
Is @Takkat around?
Perhaps.
Takkazombie is here.
<-- workload makes my head flat
Nice. Thanks! I have a question
He is busy. :|
About your question
10:01
He likes to be interrupted
Oh good! Thanks!
OMG. I think I just won the Lottery...
That is not a question, that is a fortune!
<-- once won 3$ in a lottery
<-- bought icecream from the money
LOL. Anyway. I was in VM trying to put Ubuntu on my USB stick in your answer to the question 'How to install a USB key'
Why didn't it work then?
I think I may have won maybe $17k...
@Takkat Oh yeah. I forgot that part (*facepalm*) when I try to mount the USB, VM thinks there is no USB there (not listed)
10:11
Thats a reason. You won't need VMs then, buy bare metal!
@Takkat +1
@Mochan Guest Additions installed?
@Takkat LOL no. It needs to be?
Well, depending on VBox version its needed for proper USB support. Without you have no USB 2.0
Is the stick mounted in Ubuntu?
(or whatever OS your VM runs in)
Yes, it is. But my hardware is USB 3.0 lol
10:15
Morning
Oh lol. I think I only won $50, actually. -Sweargoeshere-
@JourneymanGeek Evening
Have you done the assignment yet, @JourneymanGeek?
well, its quarter past six, but I'm too loopy to care
@Mochan: no :/
@JourneymanGeek Yaaaaay me neither~
been doing everything totally at home
LOL
10:16
and got sick today cause I got caught in the rain
@Mochan Hmmm. I don't know how VBox handles USB3.0 - it should at least see it as 2.0... but I never tried that (lack of lottery wins and lack of new hardware here)
@Takkat Hahaha. I'm not lucky, as it turns out. But this is a new computer.
2 mins ago, by Mochan
Oh lol. I think I only won $50, actually. -Sweargoeshere-
Is your USB stick 3.0 at all? If not it should be mounted as USB2.0 and it should be seen from VBox manager.
@Mochan There are people who have to work two months in the mines for that.
@Takkat I know. I suppose I am pretty lucky.
I never ever won that much money.
The best I won was a Sennheiser headphone from the Coke Fridge.
It was crap.
10:23
LOL, I also won about 30 dollars before. This is the Australian Lottery, though :P
@Takkat Ah OK. I'll try it.
@Takkat nope, it's still not there ;A;
@Mochan Is it not there or is it just greyed out? It should be there! It has to be, I told it to. Do you have another USB drive to try it it's there?
@Takkat LOL. It says 'No USB devices connected'. I'll try out another one. One sec
@jokerdino o /
What?
It also doesn't think there is over 4GB of space or an internet connection, @Takkat
10:32
This tells me it is not playing fair with us.
I'm going to try setting up a new VM
@Mochan will not help.
Forget about Guest Additions.
Its the Extension Pack you need.
OK. Please tell me I don't have to pay for it.
Its free, but not Open Source (PUEL).
It's not a good thing for a Ubuntu user to say, but: I don't mind if it's not open :P
@Takkat ty
10:35
@Mochan Open minded people don't mind closed source but prefer it to be open.
@Takkat Yeah, sounds like me. I am running 4.1.18, do I download the 4.1.22 supported EP or the 4.0.16 version?
If you have the version from the repos, I don't know. The 4.1.xx may work but in case there is some Ubuntu customization, I don't know...
Jorge is active. I am going off for dinner.
...never did that. I always use the most recent version from Oracle.
Dinner != inactive - enjoy!
10:40
@Takkat hehe. :P
@Takkat: eheh. I actually got asked if i 'hated' MS servers at an interview
I was like 'no, but since I was self learning, linux was cheaper to install'
Truedat
++1 :)
How can a man hate a machine anyway
(guy was a MS server guy)
Hating MS server people is another topic... :P
10:41
I believe in the pragmatic approach to computers (go for what does what I need best) rather than a stallmanian dogma
LOL
@Takkat: The best tool is the one I know how to use. The tool I know how to use is the one I can get my hands on most easily
@JourneymanGeek same here - that's why I use Ubuntu ;P
I'm more loyal to things. I was better with Windows. I was such a noob, but I love Linux and am now loyal to it. It will take a heck of an OS to have me betray it ;)
lol
I use both
actually need to get a full time K ubuntu box back up next hols
10:43
Here at work its Windows... I am a noob there.
@Takkat it's failing
@Takkat: server or desktop?
^ +1
@JourneymanGeek desktop - servers are Unix.
@Takkat I liked playing with the registries as a source of fun.
10:44
@Takkat: oh, its not that hard then
@Takkat You'd hope so.
@JourneymanGeek ~_~
@Mochan: eheh. You do realise SE runs totally on windows, and their main servers are down due to a storm right now ;p
@JourneymanGeek Then how are we using them?
@Mochan: failover went perfectly
@Mochan Here our admins locked away everything. Can't even change wallpapers-
10:46
Repositories, registries, I'm getting confused.
@Takkat Ouch. That sucks. What do you work as?
Hi @fossfreedom
<-- back to my work, it piles a bit (nothing with computing)
@JourneymanGeek shrug
@Takkat OK then. See you Takkat~
<-- going off for dinner
10:47
@StefanoPalazzo: I was both happy to see that, and annoyed It didn't come up when I was doing information security management
I'm just thankful I don't have to do this kind of thing
:D
@StefanoPalazzo: wierdly? Dream job
Agh. Ubuntu crashed for the first time ;A;

solaris "OWOW, NOT SO HARD"
I rate Linux an A-, Windows a B, and Mac a F.
Linux user: Hey, I wrote that fix.
11:47
@JourneymanGeek That's what she said.
(since you need a support contract for that, and they killed off the free version)
@jokerdino +11111111111
@Mochan: cough Thats what I insinuated.
@JourneymanGeek LOL I know. I just wanted to say it. I don't get to much.
11:48

BTW Linux is A minus because it sometimes gets bugs
@jokerdino: you don't know the right sorta girl
@jokerdino LOL. I'm half boy. :P
@JourneymanGeek I don't know any girl.
@Mochan tomboy?
That was a joke. Obviously. I'm full girl... just saying...
11:48
lol
@jokerdino ~(-.-)~ more like geek
@Mochan: I think geek transcends gender
@jokerdino ME.
(or the love of computers)
@Mochan You don't know any girl too? o.O
11:49
@JourneymanGeek LOL. Eurgh I keep pressing the star by accident.
@jokerdino No, I mean "What about me?"
But just... more bluntly...
@Mochan: you're words on a screen ;p
@Mochan oh
I don't count you as a girl.
Thanks.
Why, may I ask? I don't really care, but FWIW
11:50
I can't put a face to words.
yup
which is why @jokerdino is convinced I'm a dog.

Q: RAID5 recovery trying with "mdadm --create ... missing"

user143303First how I got in this situation: I had an RAID5 array with disks each 2TB (external USB-disks), I then wanted to create a larger encrypted array. Therefore I got 2 additional disks (also 2 TB each) and the plan was to run the original array in degraded mode, set up the new encrypted array, copy...

Q: How to limit ssh access for localhost only?

denysI need to forbid ssh access (except localhost) for specified user. So. ssh localhost should work. ssh hostname from outside should not work for that user. Thanks.
