well, the first thing was getting just the cables pressed. then the usb to controller bit. that way you could simplify RW slaving or get the "forensics pack" with the read only neon yellow cables or whatever

they are HORRIFYINGLY SIMPLE. it's like one or two disconnected pins. saying it's horribly complicated is ridiculous. if the controller does some readback test i could see where that cable would cause a problem, but i can't see ALL off the shelf IDE/SATA controllers requiring a readback test or reading at all
