I do realize. Although it's just one, it's invalid as I didn't even judge the post.
then read the post and/or remove the upvote
My "fun" for the day is writing a Qt wrapper for a C library... with its own event loop to boot.
Through copious use of hax.
I upvote my friends (no lie) - but I only upvote if the answer is good, and if there are multiple (good) answers - all get upvotes.
I also only do it on the rare basis that I go to a profile and see the person's recent answers
In other words, I don't serial upvote my friends.
i got a real life friend to answer one single question.
and then he left.
i asked in main forum havent gotten a good response
im looking to change the cursor icon
from a pointer to somthing else
its easy to do in windows
00:06
just change the cursor theme
lol
@jokerdino remember you need a 3rd party tool for that
cursor themes allow me to change the actual icon or just colors and sizes?
im looking to change icon itself
yes you can change the actual icon
@RolandTaylor was that gnome-tweak-tool?
http://gnome-look.org
get themes from there
@jokerdino ya or Ubuntu Tweak
00:09
oh yes. okay thank you
00:25
raring ringtail? Facepalm.
ya a bit of a fail :P
i expected much better :P
jrg
jrg
00:46
Evening guys.
Raring Ringtail - waaaaaaaaaat
ok, i could deal with lucid lynx, maverick meercat and natty narwhal
heck, i could even do oneiric oncelot.
precise pangolin - makes sense for an LTS
quantal - ehhhhhh
and the raring ringtail.
wat
Exactly.
Okay... So I guess that was a bad idea...
took out my HD, and some data on my windows install...
jrg
jrg
@Joshua: :(
I installed ubuntu tweak, I go to the theme section, and there is a "cursor theme" but none of the options allow me to change the actual icon cursor
let's fight a losing battle.
01:00
i would like to change the actual icon itself from a pointer to something else
what exactly is wrong with the cursor? it's not like you are writing tests for unity.
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino i fight one everyday.
I dont like the pointy cursor
I want something more round
i am writing a test for unity and my hair is going to join the skin cells at the floor
where the point is not triangular but rounded
01:01
stupid gvariant and gio and glib
jrg
jrg
The Unity tests are... interesting.
not enough mocking and stubbing for my taste. ;P
@jokerdino everyone says I can change the icon, but have yet to so this done. I downloaded tweak and no option to do so
all I want is to change the pointer icon to something rounded
you probably don't have other cursor themes.
@jrg :P
like how in windows you can select a graphic
@jokerdino can you recommend a theme to me that allows the pointer to be rounded?
01:04
askubuntu.com/a/78903/25798 this is how you install the theme
jrg
jrg
@Joshua: See above.
gnome-look.org/… this is where you look for mouse themes
@jrg why would I buy that domain?
now let me cry for a while.
jrg
jrg
@Joshua Consider it your contribution to the ask ubuntu stuff. setup a redirect to askubuntu.com/tags/13.04 :P
01:05
Oh I get it..
to bad my wife has banned me from buying domains for the rest of my life
jrg
jrg
It's for a good cause.
i will buy it off you if my paycheck doesn't bounce. :P
I would have to sell it to you for 10 dollars...
jrg
jrg
otherwise, it's a $5 tax writeoff.
be back in a few
you know what I dont like about the terminal. I dont like how you cant press control + c to copy a piece of highlighted text, like you can in osx
01:10
@JohnMerlino press ctrl+shift +c
jrg
jrg
Thats because in OSX it isn't ctrl-c
it's apple c
ctr+shift+c works
how do i programmatically manipulate the launcher favorites??
jrg
jrg
can you?
should be possible, just need couple more head bangs.
it is stored in gsettings, etc
i can reset it to default but not add or remove
01:14
well I was able to revive my HD...
bu tthe data is still lost...
Random idea: double-clicking the close button of a window ignores any "do you want to save changes" dialogs.
And Ubuntu 13.04 shall be called... Raring Ringtail!
8
good day all
i give up :
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison @RolandTaylor @Joshua is our post up yet?
jrg
jrg
01:28
should probably fix that
I don't see it in the list of posts...
jrg
jrg
lets just beat Joey to the punch for once.
┌┐(◣_◢)┌┐
jrg
jrg
(nothing against joey, but we're almost always a day or two behind everyone else on this stuff)
@jokerdino: Why are you trying to track down wrongdoers?
just leave them alone, the whole point of the way we do it is because of the C in CIA.
this is a good post right here:

Q: What does "cp: omitting directory" mean?

MEMI've issued the following command: sudo cp ~/Transfers/ZendFramework-1.11.4-minimal/library/Zend/* ~/public_html/cmsk.dev/library/ When I do this, I start getting the following messages: cp: omitting directory `Tag' cp: omitting directory `Test' cp: omitting directory `Text' cp: omitting d...

01:37
@Mahesh: How did you find me on masterbranch?
Anyone here used Ardour?
jrg
jrg
2buntu.com/wp-admin/… - if anyone wants to chip in, i'd appreciate it. I'm braindead right now.
I threw in a couple words.
jrg
jrg
so we can't seem to break 30 words
@jrg Let's just publish what we have now.
We can always add more later.
jrg
jrg
01:42
yeah, i'm not cut out to be a newspaper reporter or anything, i can't write miles of fluff.
published under the 2buntu team username
@jrg I added something
Something broke in the markdown.
jrg
jrg
hoping i didn't just overwrite us all
BLOGGING SUCKS. why can't we be a google-doc based blog?
ok the theme is misleading. While it changes under certain circumstances such as hovering over something, it does not change the normal staste icon
the normal state icon is still the sharp triangle
01:44
Something is really broken now.
jrg
jrg
well duh its really broken, we are all trying to edit it at once.
:D
check the changes I made
Next time, we'll use a Google Doc indeed.
jrg
jrg
i'm going to spend my vacation writing a thing that goes into the google docs folder, picks ones that are titled "PUBISH: $TITLE" and then embed them into a static HTML page.
Either that, or Gobby, or even Abiword with an abisource account
What are we running the blog on?
jrg
jrg
01:46
Wordpress
No, no - I mean the server.
jrg
jrg
ondina
Where is the blog hosted?
repetition
jrg
jrg
still.
01:46
Okay, so maybe we can switch to a Django app?
I guess.
jrg
jrg
write one that imports from wordpress and i'd consider it
Challenge accepted.
jrg
jrg
i tried to get roland to move off ondina completely and use a rails app, but he hated all the rails apps i built for him.
It won't be fancy right off the bat, but... I'll see what comes out.
The easiest option might be to just do an SQL dump of the wordpress tables and then write a script to extract the data from there.
But let me see what I can come up with.
01:48
@jrg lol I'm more of a sapphire guy than a ruby guy :P
No promises, but I'll see what I can do.
jrg
jrg
i'm going to set a goal
that before this year is out
we will migrate to something other than wordpress
and return to operational blogging safely.
I'll have something before then.
jrg
jrg
</end-jfk-moon-speech>
Does anyone else want access to the BitBucket repo. where I'll host the code?
jrg
jrg
01:50
yes please. jrgifford
roland is rolandixor
ya
sorry for not replying much - in between tabs and working on a sermon (yes, a sermon :P)
jrg
jrg
just finish your sermon mr. fancy-pants. ;)
i can talk enough for the two of us.
jrg
jrg
night folks. i'll talk to you all in the morning.
01:54
so much for talking for the two of us :D
cya later :D
jrg
jrg
nice readme
:P
I just needed something to commit.
Note: you will find references to twobuntu instead of 2buntu in the code due to the natural restriction that variable names start with a letter.
Oh... and of course the blog will feature Markdown support.
...and we won't have the problem we had earlier where Wordpress would eat the CPU for lunch either. I can cache individual parts of a page in Django. And I can automatically concatenate and minify JS and CSS.
This is going to be good.
alright so i downloaded 3 different cursor themes
and they all ahd the same issue
they do not modify normal state cursor
meaning the trianglur cursor on normal state, they only change when hovering or dragging stuff
am I missing something?
@JohnMerlino no
@JohnMerlino I am starting to think the same...
02:01
This is a problem with cursor themes with some window managers.
If you are running Unity, restart Unity by running unity in your run dialog (alt+f2)
If you are running Gnome-shell, press alt+f2, type r, and press enter
If you are under something else, then run your respective window manager's command with the --replace option (for example, kwin --replace)
If all else fails, cry.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison Can we have only markdown support?
(just kidding)
jrg
jrg
like, no html at all?
@jrg um,
I don't think we should go that route
@jrg Sure. Well, actually - except some HTML is markdown.
02:03
@RolandTaylor I cry often... I am a failure...
remember there are going to be non-technical users blogging for us who don't use markdown
@Joshua :D
@RolandTaylor But Markdown is easier to learn than HTML.
jrg
jrg
@RolandTaylor markdown is easier than HTML
@GeorgeEdison wait, we have to "code" our posts?
No. Oh you mean will there be a WYSIWYG editor?
02:04
@RolandTaylor or lazy bloggers that don't use markdown looks sheepishly away
instead of using a wysiwyg editor? :P
@Joshua :P
I can certainly use a WYSIWYG editor if you want.
@GeorgeEdison I don't NEED one - it's just quicker
jrg
jrg
you can use a wysiwyg editor, but it'd be markdown-based under the hood.
(I sometimes write my posts in markdown)
02:04
what the heck are we talking about anyways?
jrg
jrg
there is one for markdown - let me find it
@Joshua cookies
eats a one of @RolandTaylor cookies
02:05
I am using latest version of ubuntu, does it come with either unity or gnome by default?
jrg
jrg
@JohnMerlino unity shell with a gnome engine.
@JohnMerlino both technically...
@Joshua :O
@JohnMerlino unity
Unity should be freakin stabbed in the eyeballs!
@JohnMerlino I don't know your skill level, hence my excessive explaining.
02:07
@jrg EpicEditor isn't WYSIWYG.
@Joshua uh, no.
It just offers a preview.
jrg
jrg
oh. :\
Django is not a CMS?
jrg
jrg
@RolandTaylor django can be used to create CMSs. it is not a CMS in and of itself
02:08
@jrg oh I see
You ever notice I get really crabby about Unity whenever a new Ubuntu release approaches?
Django is just a generic web framework.
(Why-am-I-hyphenating-everything-today?)
@Joshua or just in general...
@GeorgeEdison I-don't-know.
@RolandTaylor hey... wait.... what???
@jrg Can we just stick to Markdown for now and consider adding an editor later?
jrg
jrg
02:09
its worse when it's near release day. I think he's goes through nerd periods. @Joshua
2
@GeorgeEdison as you can tell, my distracted nature lends to knowing of things but not knowing the details of them.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison i'm ok with that
@Joshua :P
@GeorgeEdison yes
02:09
ok i selected unity after pressing alt + f2 and it did something, and then restored my current windows. but the cursor still behaving as it was, the theme only takes affect when hovering over things or dragging things. However, I still get the sharp triangle default pointer when not interacting with anything.
@JohnMerlino oh that happens sometimes :(
ill try to restart computer
It's a long standing bug with mixed results. It works for some people and doesn't for others.
@JohnMerlino just log out and back in again
Restarting is always a last resort on Linux.
@RolandTaylor perhaps, but sometimes the one that makes the most sense...
02:12
Slim Shady is 40 years old today... old man...
younger than I thought
hopefully Unity doesn't live that long...
still same problem, in fact the only time the theme takes effect is when clicking and dragging things in the chrome browser, when i have no windows open and moving cursor around, it retains default cursor icon.
@JohnMerlino :(
I get problems with changing my cursor theme as well, I don't know what to tell you at this point. It's one of those things that used to work flawlessly, but is now broken for some weird reason.
Do you have Firefox?
(installed I mean)
02:17
Friends don't let friends use Firefox (put it down @RolandTaylor)
hey, i just launched firefox
and in firefox it works correctly
I asked because if you put the mouse over a Firefox Window, it should show your cursor theme (the one you changed it to).
@JohnMerlino I figured
It's that bug again :/
I think Unity is just one giant bug, and needs to be squashed without mercy!
2
oh stop it already
remember @JohnMerlino doesn't know you are joking...
@RolandTaylor and you don't know that I am not joking...
02:21
@Joshua :[
I don't know why... I just can't.... maybe the problem is me and not Unity...
whistles
Maybe I am just incompatible with Unity...
in fact the only two places the cursor works properly is within firefox and the terminal window, and in chrome it works half the time, everywhere else it doesnt work at all
I wish I could offer a solution
02:28
It's been a while.
What's up?
03:03
^--- The first "preview".
It took me the last 45 minutes or so to get all of the Python/Django/Bootstrap scaffolding in place.
Hax has been used.
Good work :)
How is it themed? CSS?
But wait until you see the admin we get:
Or is it coded?
@RolandTaylor It's Bootstrap.
There will be more in the admin as more functionality is added.
That's basically where you will go to add / edit posts, moderate comments (unless we stick with Disquss), and generally mess with settings.
@GeorgeEdison cool ^_^
I think we should stick with disqus
03:07
That's fine.
That is mighty cool though
If only I could learn to focus more :S
I really want to get back into programming
You can contribute if you want - or at least run it on your computer.
I've included instructions in the README.md file.
03:08
(Although they're already out of date :P)
haha
Wait, Gnome Shell :O
needs to scrub
03:30
@jrg nah i am not really tracking them down. More like just plain curious
@jrg I uncircled Kayla.
Hanging out with pervs on G+ and ignoring adults who tell you it's a bad idea is no way to behave.
@GeorgeEdison sweet :D
So, this is all powered by Python scripts?
Interesting
is fascinated
04:12
user image
2
How does that look?
04:27
Anyone know how I can set my clang path so that it works (ubuntu precise)
@GeorgeEdison sweet :D
Will we be able to get our old colours back?
Old colors?
(Or are we going to change colours?)
Can we change colors?
@GeorgeEdison blue, white, and black
@GeorgeEdison yes we can
04:30
Great.
We'll go with what I have for the moment and then we can decide later.
I wanted to avoid being in a clash with Ubuntu because of the name we use
I don't want to rush an important decision like that.
Oh wait - let me try something...
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet though.
Nam id velit, etiam ut lectus vel.
I changed the header to purple.
Cool :)
Better
Orange is a very... loud and ughish colour :)
04:34
Except the buttons are orange :P
To coin a word.
I'll see what can be done.
The buttons are fine right now
Plus, I don't want to distract you from the important things.
Alright.
I don't know how to say this... but we actually have enough to go live with this :P
But I don't have anything to import our old posts yet, so...
...I'd suggest waiting a bit longer.
ya
It looks like something I would enjoy using :)
04:35
And it's fast.
Pages load pretty much instantaneously.
Open question to all It is possible to boot two linux system creating two boot partition ?
@GeorgeEdison sweet
@RolandTaylor: I just couldn't help it - I made the button purple :P I would have had nightmares about it otherwise. I would have awoken in the middle of the night screaming "why? why is it orange??? ".
Is there an easy way to export the current data?
04:51
yeah the wp options have a backup feature
we can grab a xml file
Ah, got it.
3.5 MB. Oy.
It's XML, so I can probably write a Python script to parse it.

Q: trying to setup multiple primary partitions on ubuntu linux

JohnMerlinoI currently have ubuntu desktop installed on a harddrive. I want to partition the harddrive so that I can reserve 30 gigs for ubuntu server and 30 gigs for ubuntu desktop. The drive has 300 gigs available. Right now I am booting from dvd drive and installing ubuntu server. I selected "Guided part...

@GeorgeEdison you had to create your own blog engine, correct?
@RolandTaylor Yes.
