Oh?
hey lazy's intern!
he needs to go interact with the site
Quickly edit a bunch of posts or create an account in 15 other sites.
Ok, I cut that down to 10 other sites.
hey @RolandTaylor
Tab fail
15:04
@jokerdino hey
sup homie?
Shaking off the sleepiness and getting into the day lol
Did msPeachy and Anwar get the .hidden thing working?
heh that sounds like a terrible thing. go back to bed :P
@RolandTaylor yes and yes
msP was looking for a solution for a different partition
jrg
jrg
@user1294628 Ahoy intern!
@jokerdino Oh cool ^_^
15:06
@jrg he needs more rep to talk :|
@lazyPower Just fed him 15 rep.
@jokerdino the partition is ntfs?
i upvoted a signpost on SO for him
nice
ty @jokerdino
jrg
jrg
@lazyPower according to what I'm seeing, he can talk. :)
@RolandTaylor Anwar's was. Not sure about msP but they both got it solved.
15:07
@jokerdino awesome
hello all
thanks for the upvotes
@lazyPower OK I only gave him one upvote. There are two other nice hearts around.
@user1294628 :)
Why the sad face in gravatar?
LOL the waffle
jrg
jrg
@user1294628 you're welcome, and welcome to Ask Ubuntu general room - land of the off-topicness, and the @lazyPower-aka-boss-man abiding.
same problem
15:09
Yo @Anwar
not so much the boss - more the mentor :)
Hello @user1294628
@user1294628 hi
brb im going to change this name
15:09
Somehow you remind me of the dude with pink elephant as gravatar.
@user1294628 Thanks much <3
userxxx is a terrible name.
@Anwar what problem?
ok
i again tested with ff. it's same
You can't see things?
Oh, how about 10 second bounty offer? :P
only in Chat
monochrome screengrab application icon...
@jokerdino good
15:11
@aking1012 o/
@aking1012 that looks nice-ish
@aking1012 Good
@Anwar :P
A bit wide though
@RolandTaylor Agree
15:12
Put a mustache on it
@RolandTaylor thanks to you for the tip.
@lazyPower hi. jok yeah, it's not supposed to be pretty, monochrome...and i should probably slim it down some...
@Anwar you're welcome
jokerdino helped with the guess
why me?
@RolandTaylor your* (mimicking haker)
3
15:15
@jokerdino :)
better?
@aking1012 No
@RolandTaylor :))
@aking1012 I hardly noticed a difference lol
15:16
That got two stars?
@RolandTaylor Same for me
how narrow then?
@RolandTaylor slightly less wdie
three
@aking1012 actually, tbh, it doesn't convey "screencasting", it's more like a screenshot icon
15:16
Is Mahesh around or what?
@AmithKK good try :P
@AmithKK You want us to star that message?
Yeah
What if you did an icon that has the ubuntu purple bg with a flimstrip over it?
that would signify more that its a screencasting app
@lazyPower its a monochrome
15:17
Is 200 a use in chat?
That or just rip the head off of cookie monster and call it a day
Oh, just star it to find out
Is there a downvote feature here?
I wanna downvote @AmithKK's message
@lazyPower LOL
15:18
@lazyPower That's gonna haunt my night and the dreams.
@lazyPower lol
@smartboyhw no but we can pantomime the actions to feel better about it.
@RolandTaylor yeah, i know, but a monochrome video camera? i don't see it happening. maybe the profile instead of the head on?
bye @AmithKK
hit and run (izx's word, blame him)
:P
15:19
BBL @AmithKK
@Anwar LOL
@JoshuaRobison E17 is beautiful. I haven't run E since my time in slackware though... I did however fund the project by buying a copy of their EOS
@jokerdino ^^
@lazyPower filmstrip could work
e17. how do you use that thing?
15:21
You configure and customize it. Its just as flexible as fluxbox and its variants
I log into E and I see a wallpaper.
right click, get your menu driven interactions on.
jrg
jrg
I <3 bodhi linux. so freakin' powerful.
There are also several components to work with.
I say thanks and restart x.
jrg
jrg
15:22
@IAMASockpuppet I've got my eyes on you... ;)
Oh, you right click?
It looks too scary. I don't know how to use anything >_>
Quick question everyone
@Legomyego Pong.
15:23
:P
Its not for the feint of heart. Rasterman was building a beautiful desktop UX back in the 90's that has evolved into 'this'
@jokerdino Ping?
i don't even know how active in E development rasterman is anymore.
@Anwar You are evil.
@Gabriel Pease do so
@jokerdino I do agree. @Anwar is the evil king
15:24
@user1294628 you will need to exit and re-join chat for your username to update.
I just realized clickin on the icons in the Unity launcher now effectively minimizes open windows.
Is this a new feature?
jrg
jrg
@Legomyego I <3 your new name.
I'm referring to this question in particular: askubuntu.com/questions/36433/…
That sounds like a bug to me lol.
@lazyPower ooo ok ill brb and @jrg thanks
@jrg Do you have the all seeing eyes?
Anybody else noticed this in their system?
jrg
jrg
@IAMASockpuppet I can see multiple things.
gnome-shell doesn't do that.
@aking1012 yeah profile would do it
15:25
@Gabriel i used a PPA to achieve this
@jrg Nice.
Hey @RolandTaylor!!!
@Anw
sotty
sorry dammit
@Anwar which one?
did that work
@IAMASockpuppet hey!
@Gabriel my understanding is "everyone" has that bug because it's not a bug. it's status-by-design
15:26
sure did. i see it

A: Why can't I use the Unity launcher icon to minimize applications/windows?

lgarzoThere is an experimental patch for 12.04 that enables this behaviour. It is for testing purposes only. Since it wasn't even considered adding minimize on click as an option, Jonathan French has created a PPA with the minimize on click patch. https://launchpad.net/~ojno/+archive/unity-minimi...

@aking1012 exactly, that's what I thought too.
@RolandTaylor How are ya?
@Gabriel so what's the question?
@lazyPower was that in 12.04?
15:27
@IAMASockpuppet I'm cool and a wee bit busy lol
@jokerdino ?
@aking1012 i think, he missed ping
You minimized by clicking the icon in 12.04?
@aking1012 that I didn't use any PPA and now clicking on the icons minimizes windows
@jokerdino yeah
15:28
@IAMASockpuppet i know at least one person can dual-wield browsers
@RolandTaylor Will talk to you later ;)
@jokerdino yes, I couldn't do that two days ago
@Gabriel great!
yeah, but i wasn't the one that asked. that was @Gabriel
@aking1012 I am phoning home. ET is calling me. Bye.
15:28
I am doing it for at least 2 months :P
@IAMASockpuppet heheheh
bye @IAMASockpuppet
@Anwar but you used a PPA to do this
I didn't
@Anwar @Gabriel Weird. I probably dont use the launcher enough.
that's the nature of my question: has this been incorporated lately?
15:29
That's insane... it's not happening on 12.10...
@Gabriel If you think, i've downloaded a lots of things by using that ppa. sorry :P
it's same as always for me. not minimizing
i didn't
Someone is taking E.
I just downdoaded and installed the package without sudo apt-get upgrade . he he
15:30
@RolandTaylor on Unity3d its giving me the window picker. Is that what you see in 12.10?
@Anwar ok but I did not install anything extra and this was not happening two days ago
So this is not a new feature?
@lazyPower yeah, but only if I have multiple windows of the same app
I'm seeing some glitch?
@Gabriel that sounds almost like a bug O_o
looks like it
15:31
Check your sources.
I am gonna boot into 12.04. One sec.
(Repositories)
@Gabriel You even didn't use the workaround given in the other answer?
haha ok, but I like this bug!
jrg
jrg
@Gabriel I <3 all bugs that are features.
15:32
probably. i saw some weirdness the other day where it was showing all my workspaces in the alt-tab switcher and clicking on icons in the launcher moved me to the right workspace...i can't replicate it now though
just to be sure let me quickly check my PPAs
LOL, what's this?
on 12.04
on 12.04.1
@Anwar 1 rep user tried to post a link and it was sanitized
15:33
nope, no trace of the ppa:ojno/unity-minimize-on-click PPA
@Anwar spam
jrg
jrg
it's one for the history book.
spammer forgot his link
Great answer: What are mailing lists and how do they function? http://askubuntu.com/a/181311?atw=1 #development
yeah. flagged
@jrg thanks
lol
@jrg That IS clearly a spam OMG
@Gabriel How does this work for you?
page from a hidden history ^
wow, SE is getting spammed huh? I wonder what id10t company decided THAT was a good idea
i can't get this for whatever reason.
15:35
@Gabriel weird
@Gabriel can you post the output of apt-cache policy unity here?
@Anwar Well it's a bit buggy. If I have two windows open, say 2 Chrome's, then clicking once will display both windows tiled
but one of them will be blank
clicking again will minimize both
if there's only 1 window opened, it will display/miknimize on click
@jrg I should marry his sister, she sounds rich.
@Anwar sure, could you tell me how? :)
@Gabriel did you apply any updates?
Before this happened I mean
15:37
OK I am talking to my dad. I guess he will resolve this for us :P
@RolandTaylor I think so, yesterday but I don't remember what got updated
@Gabriel open a terminal, do the command, copy and paste here
@jokerdino please send my regards to him :P
jrg
jrg
@RolandTaylor hahah
@Anwar nope. butterfingers from my dad
@Anwar sorry, what command? apt-cache policy unity?
15:38
will call my sister
ok, here it goes:
unity:

I told you, it's a PPA.
PPA spotted
15:40
dammit! where?
That's why I said "check your sources" :)
41 secs ago, by jokerdino
ikarosdev2!
@RolandTaylor starrificated
You are using that PPA.
@izx D: :(
15:40
I did! Bur I didn't see the one I was looking for
@aking1012 lol thanks :D
Which one is it?
I was looking for this one: ppa:ojno/unity-minimize-on-click
are we going to be dense now?
15:41
@izx wants rid of me?
I thought you didn't use PPAs at all from a previous statement you made
@Gabriel this line says it's not from standard repo Instalados: 5.14.0-0ubuntu1+ikarosdev2
@RolandTaylor no I said I didn't have that ppa installed
Apparently I was wrong
@Gabriel not really your fault. don't worry. you are just using a PPA and giving you weird experiences.
okay, afk to get coffee grounds and avoid the upcoming exchange so i don't get to feeling froggy
15:42
Yeah someone added something to their PPA that you wouldn't have expected - happens.
Oh, ok. I didn't know this could happen. How can I tell which PPA is doing this?
I had to reboot coz of you. My dear uptime... oh noes..
@RolandTaylor added something that changed the behaviour of unity to a ppa that has unity-revamped in the name? i NEVER would have thought it would have an effect on unity /snark
3
@Gabriel you could check if you have any ppa installed.
@aking1012 go back to coffee machine :P
skulks to the coffee machine
15:43
@jokerdino :P
@aking1012 xD
I didn't check the PPA's link (was busy writing an answer ;))

A: How can I colour code my files like on a Mac?

Roland TaylorThis is not possible with Nautilus, but if you use Marlin or Pantheon Files, you can add colours to your folders. To install Marlin: GUI Method Add this PPA: ppa:marlin-devs/marlin-daily Refresh your sources. Install Marlin from the Software Center Optionally you can add the Dropbox and/or Ub...

takes a bow
@Gabriel well it didn't happen in this case as I thought, but you can tell by checking what the PPA provides in the Software Center
Feel when you buy a book on Amazon, and 5 days later you see "Shipping soon"
It's really not that big a problem most of the time.
@Alec lol
@Alec did you do the rain dance?
15:47
ok back on quantal gnome-shell with gdm
hi all hi @anwar hi @jokerdino are you angry with me?
Nope, not yet.
36 secs ago, by Alec
Nope, not yet.
@jokerdino see a happy face...that means no :)
Ok, thanks for the help. It's great to know I can always come here to both get help and made fun of. Cheers.
15:48
@Gabriel Ouch.
@Prasad :)
@jokerdino aaaaaaaaaa
@Gabriel No, we are a friendly bunch O_o
I hate when there are two correct answers in a single question...
@Anwar he he...thanks for your help...
I am gonna try e17 one last time. Fingers crossed.
@jokerdino don't you like unity?
15:53
@jokerdino I wish I could switch shells :/
Any idea why I always get this error when I start gnome system monitor? It still starts up just fine.
anonymous@WORKSTATION-CUSTOM:~$ sudo gnome-system-monitor
[sudo] password for anonymous:

** (gnome-system-monitor:5021): WARNING **: SELinux was found but is not enabled.
My Lightdm is messed up and no one has stepped up to even attempt to answer my question :/
@RolandTaylor link
@Alec that's not an error.

Q: How can I configure my system to use Twinview correctly?

Roland TaylorStory: I have a HP dv7 1020us with a Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT. My internal monitor is broken, so essentially I cant' use it, as I can hardly see anything through it. Recently, I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 (manually, using synaptic to upgrade packages bit by bit), and after getting most of the sy...

@HackToHell o/
15:55
Oh. Is it anything to be concerned about? And I tried to 'answer' your question as well as I'm capable of in AU chat but apparently it doesn't work.
Don't cry for me Argentina, my monitor is sad to look at :(
Ah, its ubuntu +1
@Alec oh yeah you did
@lazyPower \o
I have no system to test a fix on... :|
jrg
jrg
15:55
ubuntu+1?! KILL THE QUESTION!!!11!
@lazyPower it would have happened in 12.04 as well - the problem is because of nvidia's newest driver
@jrg LOL
it borks twinview for EVERYONE -_-
glad I haven't updated then
@lazyPower I was giving another DE a try.
jrg
jrg
15:55
@RolandTaylor i know.
trust nvidia to get it messed up :/
@RolandTaylor same :O
it took me 3 months to get my twinview working

Torvalds is so mild mannered. Except when he isn't.
I wonder if Nvidia tried sueing Linus for saying that.
@RolandTaylor well it worked, but not as expected. It gave me one huge surface area and apps were breaking when they tried to open in fullscreen
jrg
jrg
@Alec they didn't, he's just doing the free speech thing.
15:57
@lazyPower oh I had that problem too :/
@jrg lol
Seems more like a insult, a fact rather.
@jrg Well thanks for that (Offended)
@njallam Bye kiddo
jrg
jrg
@njallam I'm sorry. ;P
i managed to get it working correctly by having it inject a second unity bar on the second screen, with a mouse pointer lag between the two since the unity bar assumes nothing is to hte left of it.
15:58
I thought it was 10/10.
This is our way of repelling kiddos and new...
jrg
jrg
I just buy intel. SUCKAHS!
Intel ++
Intel is too expensive for desktop processors :/
@jrg Yeah!
cya all
15:58
Intel® Ironlake Mobile
@jokerdino I'm probably the only kiddo offended by swearing though. Your plan if flawed unless that was targeting only me. :P
jrg
jrg
@lazyPower fixed that for you. ;P
@njallam aww :P
15:59
@jrg wanna hit the other? :D
