Hey all! Is anyone from Ukraine here?

Can anyone give me advice with setting up a widescreen monitor
LTNS
@Mochan it should be plug and play for most part ._.
Whoooooaaa
holy
was genuinely, genuinely not expecting to see anyone still on here
lol
I never left!
@JourneymanGeek the resolution sucks
wowowowow
Sucks how?
Its "wrong" ?
SOmetimes auto-detection dosen't quite work
So check if the resolution of the monitor and what your OS detects is the same
14:25
ahahah ok so basically it can support up to a 3440×1440 but yes, ubuntu wont recognise it (although windows will)
i tried you xrandr to make a custom resolution but that also isnt working
it says its wayland and im not sure but i have an inkling that it doesn't play nice with ubuntu?
I was gonna suggest that lol
ahh ultra widescreen
wayland wouldn't use xrandr

@JourneymanGeek all that googling for nothing ;_;
@Mochan hello G
14:26
@jokerdino whoaaaaaaaaaa
reunion
@JourneymanGeek "You can’t set custom resolution higher than the maximum one in Display settings"... what if the highest i got is like 1920x1080 :(
lemme try it and fingers crossed anyway
Might be worth a question lol
14:29
@JourneymanGeek wow nice
@jokerdino is g just g or did i used to use my actual name in this chat
@Mochan something something G F
@jokerdino genuinely shocked you can remember this, it is correct
were you aware of how old i was at the time of being active here also lmao
@Mochan Roughly 10 years ago..
@jokerdino noone asked but i am now 21 ;_;
i studied medicine for 3 years and now i am starting my first year of cs at uni
@Mochan all the best woo!
14:39
ty ty
are you still in the east coast?
if you mean of Australia, then yes
ahahhaha
@JourneymanGeek ok finished this, rebooting noww
aight so I think I've broken it
Got me a nice kernel panic on start up
oops
I think you can edit grub from the prompt to get it back up?
14:50
Ok lemme try
soooo what I edited was grub.config(?) and supposedly you can't edit that from within the CLI? Is it possible to change the contents from my windows partition?
Is there any other distro that's gonna make working with this monitor easy? Considering just reinstalling lmaoo
15:18
@Mochan you can't edit that from within the CLI? What? You can edit the file using CLI using text editors like Nano. Is it possible to change the contents from my windows partition? Nope, but you can do that via a live USB (or recovery mode if you can boot into it).
@Someone I tried booting into recovery but same kernel panic. I thought the grub shell couldn't load text editors ?
Oh! So you're on grub rescue> prompt.
Well it was just grub>, from pressing c before selecting Ubuntu from the grub boot selection thing
Oh!
Are you having a Live USB (the USB disk from which you installed Ubuntu)?
Sorry man. I really have to get around correct terminology. I do, I'm going to try that. But I'm also considering just installing kubuntu or something that doesn't use Wayland as its default protocol
Not sure if that will help but
15:23
@Mochan Hmm, I don't think installing Kubuntu will help, but it's worth giving it a try.
Yeah I'm at that point at the moment πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Good Luck.
15:41
Thank you :)
16:38
Yay using xrandr in kubuntu allowed me to make the custom resolution
@Mochan So that means that it should probably have worked if you had logged in in an X11 GNOME session (instead of Wayland).
logged in in... OK
17:00
17:45
@Mochan Even simpler, like this: linuxconfig.org/…
In my installation of 20.04 I had both options available in the login screen without having to do anything more
18:39
@BeastOfCaerbannog yeah I saw that it allowed both. Oh well. I'm enjoying trying a new DE at least lmao
@BeastOfCaerbannog I had 21.10 unfortunately

1 hour later…
19:45
@Mochan yeah! Have a good time!
