I need help from the community's reviewers to close this question: How to develop for Ubuntu? which was popular in its day and now its an abandoned broken link page full of links that haven't been archived. I want to close it as a duplicate of this question: How to develop for Ubuntu which is unpopular if downvoting the question and two reviewers voted to close it as unclear after an answer was accepted is any indication.

I will take this opportunity to point out to the community that treating Ubuntu developers like garbage will result in worse software for Ubuntu users generally in the long run.

@karel I would instead close both as off topic for being way, way too broad. There's no way to answer "how can I develop for Ubuntu?" without writing a few books.

Hi What is the official policy on a question that is clearly some ones homework question?
-1
Q: How to add consecutive numerical as per the instance at the end of identical words in a file

AnnotatorI have a file that contain multiple times the identical word say 'hypothetical protein'. I want to add 1 to the first instance (hypothetical protein1), consequently add 2 to the second instance (hypothetical protein2), then 3 to the third instance (hypothetical protein3) till the end (hypothetica...

I did not down vote it someone else did.

@David Why do you say it is homework?
But anyway, the general policy is the same as for any other question. If it is clearly asked and the asker has shown that they have made an honest attempt to solve it themselves, that's fine. In general we don't like doing people's homework for them, but there's no specific rule: if a question is just a homework dump with no evidence that the OP has tried to solve it, then that is a bad question irrespective of whether it was homework or not.

that was my thought and probably of the whom ever down voted it.
As for why I thought it was homework there was not even any code to show what had been tried.
Oh and yes I know I am a pain in the ,,,

@David Eh, that is in no way limited to homework. Unfortunately. And you are not a pain! The rules here are complex and mostly undocumented. Of course you need to ask!

@David often questions that appear to be homework are too broad because they ask things like "write a script that does this, then does that, then does another thing, and finally does yet another thing" so can be closed
but @David please consider avoiding comments like "Yet another homework question" - it's just not constructive at all. We don't know about people's situations. If the question is bad, downvote, if it should be closed, flag, if you want to suggest improvements or ask for clarification then comment, but please try to refrain from posting comments to express judgements like that
