I am not sure if the upgrade will improve the graphics situation... want someone who has done it before

I have researched online , askubuntu etc but nothing so far :-(

Maybe the monitor cable is not connected directly to the GPU? I mean maybe is connected to the default GPU graphic on your mother board

One more, maybe you did some bad configuration before installing the driver, and now it makes conflicts.. in this case, I think to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 can solve this. so if it easy for you, go ahead and upgrade! :)
