@jrg I forgot... you're a Ruby guy. you'll probably LOVE coffeeScript
@jrg hey :)
jrg
jrg
@rlemon No, I just do backend stuff. I rarely touch JS or coffeescript.
@RolandTaylor hows it going?
@jrg it's fun. :P
not coffeescript, javascript
way to waste my time.. now im reading up on coffeescript
also read up on applescript
14:32
ah that i know
and love
my first app was in applescript studio
in a nutshell: someone didn't like js syntax and decided they preferred pseudo strict typed ruby syntax... so they made a pre compiled language called coffeescript and the compiler to compile it down to js.
jrg
jrg
AppleScript is actually pretty nice.
personally if you like the syntax sure... but I think it's a waste.
14:32
its a realy cool language for beginners!!
its so 'natural language'
@jrg been an interesting morning
Sort of caught up in the details of the Dark Night shooting
@RolandTaylor its been a hell morning here, internet going wonky, emails going away..

here its gorgeous outside
you, sir, are on the receiving end of /doom.
@rlemon seems interesting
14:38
no, applescript is worse than php
Well it's not suitable for anything really serious
but it's still a nice intro to the general thinking behind programming
xD
it is timing out if i post things about php ;p
here's the link: jwz.org/b/ygax

Did you mark anything for removal? @AnwarShah
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino insane!
@RolandTaylor no, i made dpkg --get-selections
@AnwarShah that's possibly a bug.
jrg
jrg
14:51
@JorgeCastro you done are are there more incoming?
Who got the reason for being my request to answer as displayed like quote?
@jrg it's on the debian planet
@jrg there will be more
@JorgeCastro the moderators' war against the flags queue never ends :P
some of these need either merges or deletes for autoforwarding @jrg
14:53
@RolandTaylor the man page says this
> Set the requested state of every non-essential package to deinstall.
So, how to clear that selections?
dpkg is a tool to install, build, remove and manage Debian packages. The primary and more user-friendly front-end for dpkg is dselect(1). dpkg itself is controlled entirely via command line parameters, which consist of exactly one action and zero or more options. The action- parameter tells dpkg what to do and options control the behavior of the action in some way. dpkg can be also be used as a front-end to dpkg-deb(1). The following are dpkg-deb actions, and if they are encountered, dpkg just runs dpkg-deb with the parameters given to it: -b, --build, -c, --contents, -I, --info, -f, --field, -e, --control, -x, --extract, -X, --vextract, and --fsys-tarfile. Please refer to dpkg-deb(1) for information about these actions.
jrg
jrg
do dpkg --get-selections | grep "deinstall" ?
Install ALL the packages.
:P
@JorgeCastro the mozilla devs are mad Ubuntu devs didn't consult them during web app making.
> However, I wonder why Ubuntu developers didn’t contact us in order to create their webapps using our method (so they’d have chromeless windows, for example).
@jrg I have done that, it list every packages

jokerdinoI wanted to try out Pantheon from elementary-os and hence installed it following the instructions from here. I didn't like it and then proceeded to purge the PPA. @jokerdino there are a bajillion ways to get to failsafex. I can do it, but I'll be out of town starting Sunday and won't be back until Saturday next week. Wifi will be intermittent, but I should be able to do a checkin at least two or three times

are there some good jenkins books?
with webapps in ubuntu
@jrg didn't i not tell its stackads?
we can basically have stackapplet built into the OS

advanced hardcore level
jrg

@georgeedison: Hey, stackads is using a crapload of API requests. Request for it to be cached.
15:29
@georgeedison also hey we should talk webapps for Ask Ubuntu
oh wait, Trello and irccloud needs web app integration -p
and SE sites
indeed they do
I am asking what needs to happen now
i am making a list of stuff that i love and i be looking into this

@jokerdino they already have subway, it shouldn't be that hard to add irccloud.
And Alice, since @JorgeCastro has a soft spot for Alice.
15:36
@JorgeCastro done
jrg
jrg
darnit. too slow.
yeah but they did Subway IRC already, so I am looking to switch
jrg
jrg
Subway is expensive though, since you have to host it yourself. If I could get it hosted on Heroku for nothing, then I'd be interested.
@jrg sounds promising
Marco was gonna do it for us =[
unfortunately, i haven't even setup web apps here yet. will do it tmrw
@jokerdino I was trying to setup subway
but it's still...not mature enough from what I've seen
15:39
oh.
you have highlight mode on Marco or something?
@jokerdino no, Subway mult-tennant login isn't really working
jrg
jrg
Subway is pretty immature right now, but i'm willing to deal with it. It's pretty cool.
oh dear. i am sticking to irccloud for the time being.
@jokerdino whaaat? don't delete stuff :P
or until irccloud boots me out ;p
@htorque was for the last close vote =)
15:41
ah

busy (all the time :P)
we all are =)
lies
work email's down, so i cant do work
and i cant fix it since the issue is out in harrisburg
so therefore i'm not busy
is there a pay-to-get-a-bug-fixed offer somewhere?
i'm sitting here BORED AS HELL
@htorque its called > $17000 donation to a project.
@htorque you can pay me and i will do that for you

I was wondering why my inbox was so empty after I cleared out q-uploads...
you cleared out q uploads?
i want this bug fixed:
For windows maximizing on the wrong workspace, see bug 776435 instead. Binary package hint: unity I have a notebook, using it with an external monitor attached to it in a dual-screen setup (See attached screenshots, the little screen is that of the notebook, the large screen is that of the external monitor attached to the top of the notebook's screen. If I maximize windows, two things go wrong: 1) the maximized windows always end up on the large screen, all the same if it was originally on the smaller one. 2) their top window-frame-bar (containing the minimize-maximize-close buttons) ends up on the top of the small screen. See screenshots: Screenshot-1 is showing the situation before maximizing, Screenshot-2 shows the situation after maximizing. I am not 100% sure, but I guess this is only this way since my last natty update. ------------------------------------------------------------- Desired Solution: - When a user maximises a window, the window should always maximise on
compiz (Ubuntu)

have been since day 2.
i'm willing to pay a few bucks. :P
@jrg same here. but i filter them out. so i read them when i am bored
jrg
jrg
@jokerdino I read them anyway. It's so sad to watch the ruby packages be two or three releases behind. :(
my filters are pretty good that i barely get any emails in inbox at all
@jrg file a bug?
15:46
:> I am working on something imposing.
?
github on the list too?
jrg
jrg
?
is it supported yet?
jrg
jrg
don't think so
15:50
wordpress on the list.
@jrg: I thought StackAd did include caching.
jrg
jrg
@GeorgeEdison shrugs i hereby point you to 2buntu.com - look at the community ads.
I noticed that on Sunday.
But I'm pretty sure StackAd does cache data.
i guess someone broke it?
Is there anything else running on the server that uses the API?
15:54
@GeorgeEdison secleanup.com
hmmm... interesting question here

Q: How to search a network share?

wimUsually when I want to find a particular file on my local machine, I'll open up a terminal and do find . -name "*blah*" from the directory which I want to search within. Now I want to search from a network share, which I can access in nautilus by browsing to smb://192.168.1.x/blah/ ... or by ssh...

@jokerdino That could be it.
but it is not high volume usage though
But does it exceed the throttle.
Because if the API receives multiple requests in a certain timeframe, it will block them.
So SE Cleanup should be broken too.
Hello all
15:59
P.S. Isn't the error message a bit too verbose?
/home/marco/domains/secleanup.com/html/lib/vendor/stackphp/src/paged_response.php
Wait
Wait - SE Cleanup is using Stack.PHP???
all api stuff is broken?
@GeorgeEdison Yeah
No, only the stuff on this IP address.
Not only that, I now know the API key for SE Cleanup...
this question is showing modified by JorgeCastro in this page , But there wasn't any sign.
16:01
@GeorgeEdison MWAHAAHAAH
@Oli: Your site has some security vulnerabilities...
@AnwarShah read this
lrn2checkrevisionhistory
@AnwarShah See my question please, I have updated info.
16:19
@GeorgeEdison hey did you see the webapps stuff?
@GeorgeEdison we could basically roll stackapplet's functionality into it
@GeorgeEdison launchpad.net/~stackapplet-bugs see if you can't "accept" the invite as the admin of devs.
holy god... the ending... i sense... the ending... it is approaching. it's getting closer. IT'S GETTING EVEN CLOSER HOLY LORD, IT'S HERE.. IT'S... IT'S... WINDOWS 8!
</run>
has to test windows 8 for feasibility as an OS with work
its evil
and will be the end of Microsoft
:P
16:32
:P
i played with server 8 a bit
its interesting
i'm not being asked to try out the server
i'm being asked to try out the desktop version
yeah, the one that keeps switching back and forth between metro
the server version is actually quite nice and polished
much better than 2008 when it comes to configuration etc
I have created a Data Explorer query(though unfinished) that searches for "Thanks" comments--and will sometime ignore questions with an accepted answer
It currently fails.
