Q: Opening a FiST Cryptfs dir from 2002

Ole TangeI have a dir from 2002 encrypted with CryptFS which uses FiST. In theory I can probably install a virtual machine running a GNU/Linux distribution from 2002, compile FiST and CryptFS - if I can find the source. But is there an easier way I can open that dir that I can use on Ubuntu 18.04?

Q: evdev touching the wrong device

Bob RI am trying to configure evdev to pass a mouse through to a virt-manager VM. Why is ubuntu touching the /dev/input/event device instead of the defined one? ls on the device shows this: ls -l /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB_Receiver-if02-event-mouse lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Dec 23 19:41 /dev/...

Q: Unable to ping other VM's on same subnet after bonding NIC's

Luke RouseI have set up a number of VM's in KVM on a host VM machine running Ubuntu 18.04.3 Desktop. Each machine is running on Ubuntu 18.04.3 Server and has 4 NIC's set up, where NIC 1 & 4 are reserved for remote access and connecting with a remote repository respectively. I have been experimenting with ...

There is a user going through and systematically answering every question about grayscale-ing the desktop, just linking back to his one answer.
And honestly, it's getting infuriating
What am I supposed to do here?
"I'm sorry. I'm newby."

@David I suggest flagging the ones that are effectively link-only as NAA, and raising a custom moderator flag explaining the situation on one of the others.

That's done, just waiting for mod review for (hopefully) user deletion..

7:59 AM
I haven't noticed any indication of deliberate abuse. As far as I can tell, the user very well may be unaware that what they're doing is not helpful. I'm not saying this is the case, just that it could be. Either way, though, probably all six posts should be deleted (and surely at least five of them).

The original post he is linking back to that he posted is just a rip of someone else's, and the question it is posted on should most likely be marked as a dupe and closed.
I think I flagged all 6 of them for closure but at this point I can't keep track.

I have cast delete votes on those answers. I suggest other 20k users consider doing the same. (Even if the post the custom mod flag was raised on is deleted by 20k delete votes, the custom flag will remain in the mod queue, so a mod will still be able to examine the situation and take further action if needed.)

Alright, I'm gonna do some quick formatting/grammar edits and head to sleep. Thanks for the assistance.

No problem.
Btw, judging from comments on the questions, I don't think you flagged them all for closure as duplicates. Though the KWin one is probably not a duplicate.
I guess the Unity one is not either.

It's been a long night, I am almost positive I made at least one mistake
Much more likely more than one

8:07 AM
Well, I haven't seen any.
I mean, I don't think those were ones you flagged as duplicates.
I am not sure though.
Also, it might be that we would consider some duplicates even though the technique described in the target does not work on the old systems they were originally asked about. Probably not the KWin one, but the Unity one.

I agree. It's probably better in the long run to have one main question.

I'm starting to think the user just doesn't understand ...

Q: Why are my fonts rendering so horribly in Chrome in KDE?

Eru I have anti-aliasing enabled with slight hinting. The system font is Ubuntu, including serif, sans and mono fonts. The Chrome font is Roboto. It works just fine in GNOME.

Would anyone happen to have @Fabby 's Ubuntu paste list? It's getting tedious typing out the same things and I feel I'm not being descriptive enough in some of these repetitive cases.

I see all this user answers in Late Answer queue

@damadam Not really surprised. The user was going through all questions about grayscale and pasting their answer

Using the "Related questions" section, on the right probably :/

8:34 AM
Very likely.
I'm gonna head out for the night. Happy holidays everyone!

u2 ;)
That one isn't really a link-only, because there is no link; just a little too broad

Can this answer be deleted? askubuntu.com/questions/346211/…

@damadam I voted to delete it and flagged it NAA. I don't think it's an answer.

after reading it, I just see as trying to deny all other answers

9:15 AM
@damadam I also voted to delete it and posted a comment below that answer.
@damadam I voted that it looks OK.

Yeah but.....
Possible duplicate of How do I install VMware Player? (the same technique, including download instructions for the .bundle file, applies to VMware Workstation as well) — Eliah Kagan Nov 27 at 10:41
Also, originally that question was closed as dupe of other one. Previously that was serving as the canonical question for VMware installation. The OP themself accepted that it was a dupe. But the unmerge, the target needed to be rectified.
Timeline and comments might convince :)
@Kulfy But after the unmerge happened, the target needed to be rectified.*
@RobotHumans By the way thanks for the close votes on the other two :)

Not really answers, just for when flagging a post, I remember you had a Pastebin or something somewhere with a bunch of canned responses for repetitive closures @Fabby

Don't ask me how long this took, but I found it @Fabby
