@Fabby that's a pretty terrible question. Also debian.org/ports/kfreebsd-gnu ;p
is deaaaad
(You'll know what I'm talking about)
02:21
@JourneymanGeek Is this about Fabby's bringing back to life the question "Kill the kernel but keep the OS" question where the OP actually committed suicide (killed his user ID)?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix yes

@Fabby: "but in a few years when the GNU HURD from the Free Software Foundation"
@fabby "in a few years" and "GNU HURD" should never appear in the same sentence.

Q: OpenSUSE and Ubuntu freeze when shutting down on my HP envy15 laptop

abrasumenteI was trying to install Ubuntu along with Windows on my laptop yesterday, and everything went smoothly until I powered it off. It just freezes at the last frame and didn't show any feedback. I tried out OpenSUSE just now, and it won't power off either. And both Ubuntu and OpenSUSE show the foll...

I want my system to revert back upon reboot. basically like a live cd but with my current state. How to do this? I found [systemback ](launchpad.net/~nemh/+archive/ubuntu/systemback) but it creates live cd for that.
as if it's frozen. restored when rebooted

@JourneymanGeek :D ;-)
@vidarlo :D Starred!
09:05
@Anwar easiest would be a hardware solution: it is called a "reborn pci card"
09:27

Like Live CD but not from a CD or ISO image

Q: Disable notebook monitor and set custom resolution to external monitor in Xorg

GeorgŠµ StoyanovI am trying to create a script which is disabling the laptop's monitor and set the resolution of my external monitor to 3440x1440 @ 44fps. I am using 44fps because this is the maximum refresh rate my video card supports. This is the output of xrandr: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 34...

10:35
@Anwar well.... what do you want to restore? If it is just /home/$USER/ that is very easy. (just tar /home/$USER/ while keeping permissions to /home/tarfile and untar it when they log in or log out). The whole root system is a bit of a problem :-P
@Anwar oh! I thought "systemback" was something else. Have you seen "timeshift"? That might be what you want.
Timeshift

Timeshift for Linux is an application that provides functionality similar to the System Restore feature in Windows and the Time Machine tool in Mac OS. Timeshift protects your system by taking incremental snapshots of the file system at regular intervals. These snapshots can be restored at a later date to undo all changes to the system.
mmm ... sidenote: timeshift excludes user documents :P

Q: Disable any and all screen locks/sign ins etc on Ubuntu 19.04

bharalI don't want any security on my ubuntu box. This is because it is a virtual box, when I open it up I just want it to be ready to roll, and not need to type "osboxes.org" or hit enter etc. This is especially because, as a vm, it's a little slow and password entry is prone to error/frustration. ...

@Fabby Hi again. I don't care about BankID, the eID I am trying to use is another one, using a smartcard. And needing the SConnect extension, apparently. Was SConnect used also in your case?
@Fabby is this the e-ID you are using? gemalto.com/govt/customer-cases/belgium

@Elias Yes.
And the fundamentals are the same: You don't just need the FF extension, but also the drivers.
So you need to install these first before the extension works.
(sorry for the late reply: only on-line now)
So if yours is similar, we need more technical info and might have to recompile including different Certificates or extend the BE source to work for SE.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Sympathy upvotes.
@Videonauth You OK?
Yep
@Fabby And you? Did your application was ok? I mean did you get the new job?
@Fabby I must confess I did upvote. Only because I reworded the question for him without actually rewording it physically.
23:19
@Rinzwind It turns out the two line kernel upgrade was because the steam community was up in arms because response time was 1 minute: lwn.net/Articles/792240 so it had nothing to do with changing comments. You probably don't care but I just had to set the record straight after finding out today.

Q: Why my Linux Mint 19.1 (Tessa) - based on Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic) - feels so much clunky, buggy and slow than my previous install Sarah?

vcamargoi didn't check its md5 when I downloaded and don't really know how to benchmark this kind of hardware information since i am a regular user. but it feels much slower and clunky. not as smooth as before. is my installation broken?
