Q: Syncing specific local and remote folders on Google Drive (Ubuntu)

HardlyNoticeableI need to sync a specific local folder (and subfolders) on an Ubuntu machine with a specific remote folder on Google Drive. I've found a few programs that let me select a specific local folder but all of the programs I've tried so far don't let me specify a remote folder (they always sync with t...

DK Bose I don't understand what's going on :(

@Kulfy only thing missing is the rep for everyone reetting to zero on each page reload then wer fully back to the 80's
@Fabby nevertheless ... too many things changed since 16.04 ... you should either install ubuntu budgie 18.04 or switch to a distro that ships with native GNOME - if you choose the second option, upgrade processes have a better chance to succeed without bringing along (hidden) issues. :)
@cl-netbox boo
@Videonauth Hi Sir ! :)
how are you doing?
@Videonauth Don't know about 80's. I'm a 90's kid.
I don't know why but "Your answer" heading looks very absurd.
13:30
@Kulfy back then it was usual to put in every little bit font and script you had into your pages, i remember that very well
@cl-netbox did you see, I managed to install 19.04 without it using snaps at all
@Videonauth I'm okay so far ... :)
@Videonauth having a phone call atm ... :)
Big changes for Y2K!: Is it referring to Y2K problem?
14:15
@Videonauth phone call finished ... no, I didn't see it, but I assume your "famous" bootstrap method did the trick. :)
yep
I still try to figure out how to make this install using encryption at least for the home directory and so on
UEFI installs are no problem at all via debootstrap, so welcome to the future
great @Videonauth ! :)
this here triggered my experiment thats taken from a normal 19.04 install
@Videonauth cool ! :)
I find it troublesome to enforce snaps in the architecture this way
14:26
@Videonauth what is that gnome-3.26 snap thing for ?
well take a guess
no idea ...
this was taken before they finally switched to gnome 3.32
thats the gnome DE as a snap package installed
@Videonauth strange approach ... IMHO at least
yeah not only in your opinion :)
already considered going debian (stable release) or antix (rolling release), both are apt based
14:29
@Videonauth I have tested switching to the LXD snap on ubuntu server 188.04 ... what a mess
well 19.04 works fine with the snap based install but then i not installed much on the VM i tested with
for sure not going to install snaps on bare metal on my main machine
@Videonauth if i hadn't had a system backup, I would have needed to reinstall the whole server
yeah I guess removing the snaps from a normal install will mess it up big time too
but then i not install ubuntu-desktop anyways as i want vanilla-gnome-desktop because of the extension i want to use
@Videonauth not the worst idea ... :)
trying to get dash2dock running with the ubuntu-dock derivate as wel installed is not working out so well
thas a regression dating already back to 18.04
14:33
@Videonauth the whole thing about GNOME is : when you use it as it's intended by the devs it's absolutely brilliant ... once you tweak it too much, you make things worse
yep that's what I found out too. However Unity although gnome based worked super and I really miss it. Guess maintaining Unity7 modifying new incoming GNOME binaries is/was simply to much work to make it happen.
Think so too ... I'm gonna leave now ... F1 Bahrain GP, you know @Videonauth ... see you next time around. I wish you a nice Sunday ! goodbye :)
You too enjoy watching the race
@Videonauth Thanks :)

What's going on with the "Back to the Future" theme on StackOverflow ?
It just started randomly, and now it's gone for some reason. No sense made
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Working fine here. Have you clicked on clock icon?
Yeah, only on AskUbuntu. Apparently it works for me on other sites
Though I was more interested in what's it all about
Anyway, doesn't matter
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Its april fools day theme
OOOooooh, sense++
sudo make sense
I completely forgot about April Fools day, even though I looked up todays date for a backup just 10 minutes ago
15:56
Anyways, I should probably get back to coding while I have time
16:18
awww, I clicked "go to the future" because I didn't know what the button did and now it's gone :(
Same here, I thought it would lead to info page and I'd read about what's going on with the theme, well it is gone now
Hey @seth LOL.
Hey "Kaspar"! :P
how you been
Bad. What about you?
Bad but slightly improved lately.
I'm sorry to hear you haven't been doing well :(
16:22
I am using Windows 10 now.
We broke the heat record for March out here. Spring is in full force.
I haven't touched Ubuntu for a long time.
@Kaspar Same lol. Although that's mostly because I haven't had time to set up linux because of school.
@Seth you probably could remove the cookie/db entry for the page in firefox console
@Kaspar I don't like the new Ubuntu interface.
16:23
@Seth Are you referring to the new icon set, or something else?
@Videonauth Ooh is that a thing now? I remember when you needed an extension to get to cookies.. anyway, it reverted itself already LOL
@Kaspar In 18.04 they ditched Unity for GNOME themed after Unity. It's pretty bad
@Seth I see. I still think Ubuntu MATE is the best. But it looks very ugly. It has never had a theme pre-installed that looks good.
@Kaspar Hm. I guess it depends on what you like. I always liked ambiance.
16:26
@Seth its only half as bad if you use the vanilla-gnome-desktop, but yes I agree with you, I miss unity
@Videonauth I could never use GNOME 3. I'd install it once a year or so and try, but it's unusable for me.
I use it now since my install of 18.04 in november 2017
and cannot complain, but still liked unity more
If you use Ubuntu MATE, you can change the desktop to look like Unity.
@Seth What exactly is unusable ? Maybe you could pitch me a few ideas to make it better ?
Ubuntu MATE allows you to change the desktop to various looks with a simple click.
16:28
yes but a look alike is not unity :D
@Videonauth +1 , and it doesn't have to be
I liked the openess to doing plugins and so on
@Kaspar Yeah, and that's pretty cool. But it's not the look I'm attached to, it's the features. Mostly keyboard shortcuts. It's a ton of really small things.
surely you can code plugins for all DE's somehow still unity it was so easy
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy You can't, although I appreciate the thought. GNOME locks you into a rigid way of work that is simply not at all how I do things, but they're convinced it's the only way..
16:31
@Seth I see. Well, I almost never use keyboard shortcuts. I only use shortcuts for copy, cut, and paste. =)
I can't even use GNOME based DE's anymore because GNOME removed so many settings APIs that it is now trickling into other projects.
@Kaspar haha, I'm something of a shortcut master I'm afraid xD
Yay, my XFCE virtual machine is not starting, "Fatal: could not read the boot medium"
And I have some code on it
@Seth If only GNOME remained at version 2. =)
I get irritated when I have to touch the mouse xD
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy Might be able to mount the image as a disk
@Kaspar I wouldn't have complained lol
A few strange distros are now topping the distrowatch rankings.
I bet if GNOME remained at 2, Ubuntu would still be at number 1.
16:33
Actually, for some reason the virtual drive is removed from settings O_o and I've not done that at all
@Kaspar That started with canonical releasing 18.04 mostly. But then distrowatch is only that much representative of what data they get on usage.
OK back online
When is 19.04 scheduled to be released?
@Seth 26th
Hm, ok. Thanks.
16:37
iirc
ooh a week earlier.
OK, so for some odd reason I thought I had code I didn't have apparently. It's neither on my desktop nor VM
@Videonauth You probably got confused because it was line 26. =)
@Kaspar the date was all over the place some pointing to the 24th some to the 26th so this 18th comes as a surprise to me really :)
16:40
@Videonauth I see. But the correct date is always on a Thursday. =)
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy You probably wrote it in your sleep.
I know Fedora releases on a Tuesday.
@Seth Quite possible. At one point when I was taking Electronics class for the 4th time, I started dreaming of doing transistor calculations. I would literally see engineering paper and numbers appearing on it
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy I do something similar when falling asleep. If I'm reading something my brain will start filling in what it thinks the page says as my eyes close.
Hopefully it's not too much code :)
Oh it's going to be April Fool's Day soon!
16:43
@Seth I have the voice recording app on my phone lockscreen for exactly that reason, i keep talking to myself when I m close to sleeping in about ideas, and i do recording it just in case i have something really good comming up
or when i wake up having an adiea i speak it onto the phone too
reviwing it at the morning
and take notes
@Kaspar if you look at the site the prank is already live xD
@Videonauth I would be too sleepy to remember to start it xD
need a bit of training tho, but I found that I have the best ideas in that relaxed state
@Seth Not too much. It's the Consumer-Producer pattern in Python. Easily findable online and I've some links. I'm trying to re-write my indicator-bulletin with a few other things. Producer-Concumer, SQLite instead of json for logging clipboard data, and adding support for things other than just text
@Videonauth Ballmer curve, but with sleep
kinda :D
user image

I also found out that when i sit up then having an idea and trying to write it down on paper I usually not being able to reword my idea in written form
17:22
AWk-kay, I think my code works . . . kinda . . . sorta
17:57
Hi, there Jacob !
18:29
Ugh oh . . . I think I foobared
Hey! @SergiyKolodyazhnyy
(Late reaction :) )
^_^
I think something is wrong with either one of my drives. I'm trying to backup my 120 GB SSD to an old HDD, and when I try to do sha256sum check on the resulting image, it throws I/O error
19:05
usb drive? and probably ntfs?
Nope, SSD is ext4, HDD has mounted partition to which I'm writing the image file, but that's also ext4
I'm dd'ing that again, hopefully it will work this time
I'm dding a partition of the SSD so maybe that's the reason
should make normally no difference
yeah, that's what I also think
19:46
Nope, still having I/O error
I did have an fsck error on that drive earlier in dmesg output, so I wonder if it's really corrupt
19:58
I wonder if it'd be simpler to just start a new project instead of trying to re-write this indicator
20:34
Did they turn the theme off?
Apparently so
No it's back
huh
not for me
or any of my friends
oh weird. I have to open a question
Bottom of the page on AU. I've disabled that on AU, now it's back for me, but gone on SO where I didn't disable anything
21:02
@SergiyKolodyazhnyy April fool's joke.
21:37
@Fabby Yep already know
Ah... Sorry. Must've missed some context then.
Context is that this thing is on and off from time to time, and me and Seth were confused as to why it's not working in parts of the site, and for some users
So, I've fsck'ed SSD, hopefully that fixes some things
Never let your ignorance of context prevent you from speaking!
Never let context prevent you from being ignorant . . . wait , there's something wrong with this picture
Never let your con be ignorant of text
Never . . . gonna give you up . . . never gonna let you down . . .
OK, I'm done
2009 called, it wants Rick Roll memes back . . .
