Q: DNS is not applied with systemd-resolved

MirekI'm using Kubuntu 18.04. When I'm in the office network, everything works fine, but when I connect to any other network (wired of wifi) I don't get proper DNS names - the old ones are still in systemd-resolve --status output. When I add the proper DNS address via systemd-resolve --set-dns=10.0.0....

WHOA
I just found out that ORIGIN sells gaming laptops
can get 4.3lbs at 0.7"
and no integrated graphics so it isn't limited by Intel's stupid 3-monitor thing
it's just $1600
actually $1837 but they give me a free mousepad and shirt lol
expensive mousepad...
11:57
idk why they claimed it starts at $1600
going to the config page, the lowest you can get is $1768
but it's a super OP laptop
with apparently 5hrs battery life
the 2TB SSHD is apparently also free
but I wonder if that's where the price comes in
"free" meaning included in the price hahaha
I guess lol
they also have financing options
$43.69/mo for it
I could actually do that...
:)
that's 42 months though o_O
you'll have forgotten what it's for by the end haha
12:03
oh I can choose lower payments options
I don't have a credit score though
I think I could afford it though. I have $3839 I think I'm able to spend.
sweet!

@Rinzwind tsk tsk, get back to work!
someone's gotta answer those questions :P

For anyone interested, the vm installation bug I was having is because there's no virtualization support, and despite it being a 4Ghz machine, it's single core. So, even if it had support for virt, you couldn't delegate a core to a machine. So, it's easy to accidentally run to 100% CPU even though it's fast enough for most games and windows apps. The laptop was the opposite. 2Ghz machine with 4 cores and virt support. So, couldn't play games, but great for work.

hey guys, ive managed to do a rightly good job messing up my terminal, any command that isnt precached on the terminal fails
it all says import module _gdpm but none of the fixes on similar questions have fixed it, is there anyway I can completely reset the state of my terminal and installed programs without a full reinstall
I tried installinga resetting program someone made on github but for that i see the same error message but for apk_pkg
18:39
@Skyler Please read How to Ask and ask on main. :)
@dessert I have asked questions about the issue on main
I've looked at related questions
tried any fix there
@Skyler link(s)?
but more so I just figured I'd ask for pointers on resetting before dedicating a full-blown question to that

Q: No module named 'gdbm' after installing software via flatpak

user507974I recently installed manually installed GIMP on my 16.04LTS (not using the ubuntu store) as per their instructions using flatpack, flatpak install https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/org.gimp.GIMP.flatpakref and now whenever I try and run many commands (or type in something that would usually e...

what is this metric from
related question here, no fix suggested helped, some unable to be done due to error iirc
https://askubuntu.com/questions/720416/no-module-named-gdbm
link that so yours isn't closed as a duplicate
@Skyler It begs you “please install the python3-gdbm package”, so did you do that? add this information to the question!
sadly i tried a few varietys of trying to install that for 3.6
3.6 version doesnt exist
or at least apt get didnt find it
/says it doesnt exist
18:46
just this
sudo apt install python3-gdbm
already tried that
does install
but does nothing to fix it
(tried it earlier)

Q: No module named 'gdbm'

Asogwa Chukwuemeka MartinsI just finished installing python 3.5.1 on my Ubuntu, but am faced with this error message, regardless if I'm installing with Anaconda or with apt-get: No module named 'gdbm' that normally displays on my terminal. I have also tried installing gdbm using: sudo apt-get install gdbm but doesn'...

did you try this?
i tried that, though despite using sudo i received errors for not being root
@Skyler what did you try?
oh, the top fix
i think i linked that one earlier
how ’bout
sudo apt install python3.6-gdbm
i tried all of those earlier
the 3.6 one says
` Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package python3.6-gdbm
E: Couldn't find any package by glob 'python3.6-gdbm'
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'python3.6-gdbm'`
I've basically tried all of these, and some other similar questions too
18:52
every single piece of information you gave in the last 5 minutes belongs into your question post
i can add those, these similar posts came up after my question posted
since most of my development is done with virtualenv, i just wanted to cut losses and reset everything
(minus my personal files)
@Skyler which errors exactly, and what did you do to get them? (you guessed it: add them to your question ;-)
did you try reinstalling like the top answer there says?
i tried the full procedure of the top answer, things seemed to work fine for the actual commands but nothing got resolved, I did see a few errors in the apt update and purge step:
332 packages can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see them.
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
sudo apt purge python3-gdbm && sudo apt install --reinstall command-not-found python3-commandnotfound python3-gdbm python3-gdbm-dbg sessioninstaller
sudo apt update ; apt purge python3-gdbm ; apt install command-not-found python3-commandnotfound python3-gdbm python3-gdbm-dbg sessioninstaller
that one
18:58
@Skyler yes, that’s wrong, this only runs the first one as root and the others without sudo
try my version above :)
oh ok
yea, still no dice
installation runs fine
but that doesnt resolve the gdbm error

Q: What are PPAs and how do I use them?

Jorge CastroI keep reading about Personal Package Archives ('PPAs') and people answer questions with a link to a PPA. What's the best way to use these? if you say flatpak GIMP may be connected to this, did you try purging it?
isa purge different that an uninstall?
than an*
19:12
yes
if it can, it clears any configuration files for the package
this was my first time using flatpak for an installation of something on my system, what would be the right way of doing a purge
not sure whether this difference is important with flakpak though
 flatpak --system uninstall gimp
… I suppose
