@seb so in dual boot (i.e. without BIOS selection of boot drive) Grub should be in the MBR of /sda as well. See also this answer, or this tutorial on Boot Repair for more on how to install/repair Grub. Take care to not overwrite the Windows partiton boot records.

ugh... i've been lazy with backing up my movies... normally I back them up as soon as i've downloaded them too free up space on my SSD... but after removing windows 7 (28GB) I have gotten lazy with it.

I wish I could go 64-bit but I'm installing in a VM and my CPU doesn't support hardware virtualization.

i set it to nothing(1, 0 produces mixed results). it's much more necessary on multiscreen since reasonable sensitivity makes your mouse hang at the screen edge
