@StefanoPalazzo Well Micheal is actually a Unix/Linux mod. I was asking if he wanted the question and he decided to instead clean it up.
So we backed off when we saw how defensive the user got
I don't even get the question
you plug something it, it mounts
it seems to be about how linux is awesome and windows isn't
I tought that @MichaelMrozek might not be a newbie when I saw the second revision (:
19:06
is it not just terminology? I mean to the user it is the exact same thing.. maybe a different process, but same end results?
I want to roll back to his rev, but I won't now. for fear of starting an edit war
is that sensible?
@StefanoPalazzo Yes and No. You can roll it back and I can lock it from editing. He's just wrong and really offensive
Should have read the FAQ
let's do that then, I think that'll give everybody a better chance of a good answer
He is from Indiana, Hoosiers are crazy, I know< spend the first 23 years of my lif ethere

Q: What advantages does the UNIX mounting system have over Windows?

MussnoonI was reading in this question what it means to "mount" something. Why does UNIX use the concept of "mounting" when Windows doesn't? Is there an advantage to the UNIX way versus the Windows way?

19:10
@StefanoPalazzo LOL he already edited it again!
@StefanoPalazzo I think he's figuring it out based on the comment war.
@StefanoPalazzo Just favorite and come back in a few hours. He's obviously not certain on how he wants to approach this question
yeah @DoR @Marco. But his last edit is actually pretty sensible
If 2 more people edit it though it'll become a CW! :D
19:12
I'd be happy if you locked it now. It explicitly asks about the technical differences, so that's okay
@StefanoPalazzo I'm not going to do anything of the sorts yet. I think it's working itself out. ( I think this is probably the best use case for comments to be honest )
Meta discussion of an answer or question
@MarcoCeppi ← I'm going to do this then :)
@MarcoCeppi I think you should roll it back to the source, and let them start over again...

@TheX Why don't I just delete both their accounts and questions? That will fix EVERYTHING! :D

@MarcoCeppi +1
@MarcoCeppi that would be effective too
Judging by his latest comment he figured out Micheals original intent
this new internet thing is nothing but trouble
:P
not sure they wold agree though....
@StefanoPalazzo I agree...

@MarcoCeppi You don't question what Rajinikanth does! :P
Is he wearing Heelys!?
Sid
Sid
He doesn't need 'em.
It looked like he was wearing them at the end
BTW, You didn't warn me that was going to be a spoiler. Now I don't want to watch the movie :P
Sid
Sid
Hahaha :D He has made over 200 movies I guess.
Rajinikanth (; born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1949) is an Indian film actor, media personality, and cultural icon who has primarily acted in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. He made his debut as an actor in Apoorva Raagangal (1975), a Tamil film directed by K. Balachander, whom the actor considers his mentor. He then worked in Tamil cinema often portraying antagonistic characters and gradually rose to acting in lead roles. Other than acting, Rajinikanth also worked as a producer and screenwriter. Apart from his film career, he is also a philanthropist, spiritualist and serves a...
Can I ask something about a question of mine over here?
19:42
@Mussnoon of course!
dkljsf
^random key moment for the day
There were 2 close votes earlier, which I think might've been justified, but then I fixed it (I think) but there was an additional close vote after that.
Is there something else wrong with it that I can fix?
@Mussnoon umm yeah... you can know that the only difference is the wording...
19:45
@Mussnoon your question is okay as it is now. But the answers aren't very good, this might have lead someone to cast a vote. No idea. Also, people don't like it when two people edit heavily and undo each others edits.
Hmm...
When you ask questions in the future, make sure your question is phrased such that it has one correct answer, this is the easiest way to avoid asking a subjective question. But as I said, it's okay as it is.
yeah we only like facts here, not subjectivity :-D
Thanks. I do usually try. I guess I should've tried harder this time. I got carried away with the suggestion made in the other question.
opinions are like arm pits, everyone has two, and they all stink...
19:47
the occasional good subjective question is very welcome too :)
@Mussnoon If a question does get closed and you feel it to be incorrect you can open a topic about it on our meta or cast a vote to have it reopened.
@MarcoCeppi you can reopen closed topics?
Yeah...but I thought I'd rather prevent it by fixing it instead. Seems to be a smarter thing to do.
@TheX at 3000 rep you can cast close and re-open votes
@TheX Yes! If there's anything to take away from the SE engine rarely anything is permanent.
19:49
@StefanoPalazzo I see
@MarcoCeppi I have never noticed that before
i mean the "reopen" option
@MarcoCeppi why does everyone refer me to that like every 3 mins? :-P
you would think I would have it memorized by now
rubs the idle sleep from his eyes
Urgh...backspace
I'll get going now. Thanks @MarcoCeppi and @StefanoPalazzo for the clarification.
@MarcoCeppi @StefanoPalazzo :) Hey guys

@Sid what is it like living in a big city?

Sheffield is a village in Bureau County, Illinois, United States. The population was 946 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Ottawa–Streator Micropolitan Statistical Area. Sheffield was founded by Joseph E. Sheffield and Henry Farnam in 1852. Sheffield and Farnam constructed the Chicago and Rock Island Railroad, and the town site was intended as a coaling station for trains. According to Farnam, he and Sheffield flipped a coin to see for whom the town would be named.[http://www.sheffieldillinois.us/ Sheffield, Illinois Official Site] A monument to Joseph E. Indeed.
I love meeting new people, especially if they are from different cultures then myself...:-D
Sid
Sid
Me too. There are many at my office. It is a wonderful experience. It busts stereotypes!
yeah that is one of the bad things about living in "small town USA"
everyone is white Caucasians for the most part
Sid
Sid
That is a bad thing about living in "small town anywhere". There's always a sense of false superiority.
Do you work at Sheffield too?
20:24
No...
@Sid very true. abouto the false sense of superiority
I work in another town, even smaller then Sheffield...
IT at the HS...
but the town is the center of the district...
Sid
Sid
@lazyPower: Yes, I had that until I started working in a multicultural environment. I then realized that we are all humans who love their families.
@Sid humanity can be a wonderful thing
well most love their famlies anyways
Sid
Sid
20:27
@TheX In India almost everybody does. Family ties and marriages here are unbreakable. I hardly know anyone who has gotten divorced.
@StefanoPalazzo whoa, nice string
@Sid believe me I wish the same was true here
or everywhere as far as that goes
Sid
Sid
@TheX I fail to understand how marriages fail in USA! That's out-of-the-world for us.
Yeah... and usually the reasons are stupid
whoops lol
Sid
Sid
Haha.
That was quick!
20:32
lol
So... like I love my wife dearly... But I can't stand waking up next to her in bed... so we made a comprimise...
she gets up and out of bed first...

I couldn't attend Ubuntu Dev Day at Bangalore! Work! Aaaargh!
@TheX I didn't spend too much time! :P
@Sid oh okay...
it is better that you don't, you might get cancer :=P or grow an extra eyeball :-P
Sid
Sid
Jeez! Sheffield IL is one of the sites of the 6 nuclear waste dumps in the USA! And another is just 40 miles away! Doesn't that scare you?
20:41
supposedly the water table flows west, into the other town beside us....
and the dump is on the west side of town...
so they say there is nothing to worry about.... for us...
Sid
Sid
Some relief!
heh
that is what the experts say, so I have to go with it...

@MarcoCeppi That's sad!

@MarcoCeppi Wow! And how much is the fee to get an extension into chrome/extensions
?
@Sid $5
the problem is - it needs to be reviewed by Google before acceptance into the store due to the fact it includes an NPAPI
Sid
Sid
Oh! Security risk?
> Because of the additional security risks NPAPI poses to users, extensions that use it will require manual review before being accepted in the extension gallery.
NPAPI is the only way to get an extension to communicate with something like libnotify
Sid
Sid
Oh!
"NPAPI is a really big hammer that should only be used when no other approach will work."
:)
Right, in this case no other approach would work to get libnotify to appear at all
