I'm so out of HTML these days to be honest

6:15 PM
@IanC That's how I do things like that: github.com/chrisallenlane/cheat/pull/360
Meaningful commit messages help in any case. ;P

@dessert Did magic; Broke things and fixed things; Broke things agains and failed to fix them; Made stuff ....
meaningful like that? :P

mine is here:
https://github.com/skidding/dragdealer/pull/122
hopefully I explained it well enough

should be well explained

6:31 PM
press <kbd>F5</kbd>, I got a new hat!
@IanC people will ask if there are any questions left I think

@oli congratulations on getting to 200k rep on askubuntu.

@Rinzwind you mean modflag that? :P sure i can do that

@Videonauth :+)

@Oli congratulations from me too.

I have 7 months to get 25k >:)
he is a member for 7y4m.
me 6y7m.
and 25k less rep :P

@Rinzwind before that you have to give me lets say mhmmmm .... 4k reputation ;)

I cant spare those >:-D

guys, I've seem this answer and liked the idea of adding an nautilus action without installing another program, but I cant find any .local/share/file-manager folder
did they take it away on some nautilus update?
@dessert yeah, I think I'll have to wait and see :p
would be really happy if I could collaborate with that project though

6:48 PM
@IanC hmmm I would assume I had to create it if it was missing
and also see the comments on the answer: should work with gnome 3+

I'll try to create the file and see if it works

Thats the spirit!!!!

didn't work :/
will research further later
.local/share/nautilus/scripts would be just fine, if it showed the scripts when I clicked on the folder too instead of directly on a file

Oli
7:06 PM
Thank you all

7:31 PM
well deserved @oli :=)
I shall join you in 25k :D

@Oli Whohooo! Well done!
Oh hey, who's your ISP @Oli? I'm moving to London next month and trying to choose. I'd go for aa.net.uk (they have their own IRC channel! Aaaaa!) but they have a monthly cap and ain't cheap, so I'm looking at Zen. Do you have an opinion on them?

@Oli you need 4 downvotes

@terdon I was the one giving him his last 4 upvotes >;-D

Serial voting!
SHOGGGGGGG

4 aint a series :=D

7:35 PM
orly

No, Gatwick.

wat

Paris Orly Airport (French: Aéroport de Paris-Orly) (IATA: ORY, ICAO: LFPO) is an international airport located partially in Orly and partially in Villeneuve-le-Roi, 7 NM (13 km; 8.1 mi) south of Paris, France. It serves as a secondary hub for domestic and overseas territories flights of Air France and as the homebase for Transavia France. Flights operate to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, North America and Southeast Asia. Prior to the construction of Charles de Gaulle Airport, Orly was the main airport of Paris. Even with the shift of most international traffic...

Sorry, I can't help it. My mind works this way.

7:37 PM
lol

Well, "works".

OK Fabby

Oli
@terdon Urm, find out who operates LLU at your soon-to-be local exchange. And see if you can get cable. There is value from the smaller ISPs but you really pay for it. The big ones are good enough™ unless you need static IPs or... well... need anything more than your grandma would.

@terdon I call that "malfunctions like that"

@Oli I need stability and tech support people who know more than I do.
@Rinzwind :P

Oli
7:39 PM
@terdon And the moon on a stick? You're asking a lot.

@Oli LWKGRE?

Q: Remove everything except apt and network manager

DevX136So I want to be a little over the edge here and remove everything from my Ubuntu based distribution while only keeping apt, network manager(if possible, to support download stuff later) and the linux kernel and start off from there. I know that downloading a network image and installing it fresh...

@Oli Well, Zen and AA seem to both offer good tech support. Actual humans. In the same country.

Oli
Zen probably are a good bet —no direct experience, just seen happy people— but I've really no idea what sort of speeds they'd be able to deliver without unbundled access.

@UbuntuQuestionsonU&L Oh my ....

7:40 PM
@terdon I can do tech support! :=)

@Rinzwind Heh true. But you don't have access to the equipment.

Oli
Doesn't he?

@terdon oh he'll get access, alright

uh whats apt purge ... do?

he'll get access

7:41 PM
@Oli Fair enough. I'm not all that bothered about speed to be honest. I just want to be able to stream the odd netflix and download every now and then. My main thing is stability since I'll be working at home, connecting to work over ssh.

@terdon oh? >:)

hehe

@Videonauth I think they just meant use apt purge and replace ... with whatever

Ah crap,. have to run.

@terdon cause @Rinzwind is coming?

7:41 PM
@TheWanderer ah ok well it actually would fit all three letered application names

Ill be in London too x-mas weekend

lol
that would remove apt

if apt cant parse it as normal text it reverts to regex

Oli
@terdon BT still operate all the hardware at street level and there's no guarantee they won't spill their coffee all over the street-level circuit (happened to us about a decade ago).

When internet friends meet IRL, does that count as a crossover episode?
@Oli How
how do you spill coffee on an exchange circuit
just

7:43 PM
@TheWanderer friends? you all are merely my rep counters

Oli
Virgin (cable) own the lot but they're are notoriously bad at fixing things quickly.

@Rinzwind you mean you are my rep buffer ;) ?

:D
@Oli virgin needs a girlfriend :=D

jesus rinz

7:46 PM
@TheWanderer hey just matching @terdon brain wave level >:-D

no you're lower

@TheWanderer LOL. To proove my above statement type `apt policy ...``(yes with three dots as elipsis)
@terdon that comment i mentioned earlier is dangerous, if the OP runs this as command he is super hosed :P
he could have wrote apt purge * as well would not make much of a difference
@terdon the result of `sudo apt purge ...``^^

3GB lol

yep the complete system in fact, just hosed my one VM (luckily i have a snapshot of it)

8:39 PM
@terdon :) Newton's Third Law is my favourite

PS Isn't that Romanesco stuff a kind of cauliflower rather than broccoli? I peeped into here yesterday to be pedantic about that after spying on the transcript, but everyone was talking about a certain troll and I didn't want to cause further upset with random (or maybe I mean fractal?) cruciferous veg comments

Romanesco broccoli, also known as Roman cauliflower, Broccolo Romanesco, Romanesque cauliflower or simply Romanesco is an edible flower bud of the species Brassica oleracea. First documented in Italy, it is chartreuse in color. Romanesco has a striking appearance because its form is a natural approximation of a fractal. When compared to a traditional cauliflower, its texture as a vegetable is far more crunchy, and its flavor is not as assertive, being delicate and nutty. The Romanesco has been grown in Italy since the 16th century. == Description == Romanesco superficially resembles a cauliflower...
yep it is a cauliflower

so it's both?
or I'm just wrong?

the higher classification is: wild cabbage
all i can tell is that it is very tasty :)

8:49 PM
agreed, that stuff is fantastic

@Zanna you too wear the candlestick! =)

Fabby :)

You talking about veggies with Zanna?
You have hidden depths, my friend...

@Zanna today I learned “all to [adjective]” from you :>

:) not many people know me thorough i guess :)

8:58 PM
anyone know what the default mint terminal is?

dunno, it smells minty :P

er doesn't it depend on the DE?

Pi package is out for delivery.
@Seth York.

@dessert it looks more impressive on your dessert though

@JohnP huh, never heard of that emulator.
@Zanna probably. I'm sure Mint MATE uses mate-terminal.

9:02 PM
@dessert thinks I might have made a typo...
@Seth haha yeah... My dad installed Mint KDE for me, and it used Konsole... so what's the default terminal emulator in Cinnamon?

> It's all to easy to break your system with chown and chmod.

@dessert that should be too!
let me fix it...
thanks for catching that

@Zanna Aw damn, I actually was quite impressed there… But still it sounds exactly like the German equivalent “allzu”. :)

sorry for the bad grammar and disappointment

@seth ^^^
Mint, ok, so it was a stretch.

9:06 PM
@JohnP woot? debian? :P

@Zanna ahh, yeah. I guess I mean cinnamon then.
@JohnP ohhhhh... haha
wheee. I posted an answer for the first time in a while.

I'll boot up my Dad's Mint Cinnamon system and have a look

@dessert For what?

@Seth yay

It feels so good :D

9:07 PM
^_^

@Seth Have an upvote. That way I get a hat. :)

@Fabby he hit 200k rep recently

@JohnP lol

Wow! Does he get another t-Shirt then?
@Videonauth another star!

i have known you would agree with that

9:10 PM
There is a bug and sudo apt autoremove probably will remove your current and running kernel. — Bruno Karklis 1 hour ago

Although I think there is a rep threshold to get the candles hat.

@Seth It's GNOME terminal apparently
@dessert it's off-topic

@dessert its øff tøpic duh

@Videonauth Migrate to unix/linux? @Seth

9:13 PM
thanks, I get confused with the whole pi stuff…

@Zanna Okay thanks.

@dessert well pi not actualy means not ubuntu, be carefull there are ubuntu images too for the PI but the username is then not pi afaik

done
raspbian is debian.

whoosh
@Seth :)
bedtime here

ok, I can now leave work and go start playing with my new pi that should arrive about 10 mins before I do.

9:17 PM
Good night!

sleep well

I'm installing xenial server edition and just received a message that translates to:
> it seems like this installation of Debian is the only one on this computer
uh-oh

wrong iso man, wrong iso :P

not a chance

did you just download that iso?

now i have to check that lol

9:40 PM
weird i dont see that message

"but there's at least a teraflop of data to go through"
uhhh

@Videonauth You did select German, did you? ;P

@dessert uhm i never select german as language on OS installs
but well german keyboard layout and timezone

@Videonauth then you never get to see the interesting things :D

Ubuntu may not be able to sleep on my laptop, but I LOVE having all the panels

9:46 PM
@Videonauth I wrote “a message that translates to” above – sorry for the confusion.

ah ok lol
well maybe an oversight in the translation
@Zanna well i can soon tell you if 17.10 is affected by that :)
Nope not affected on 17.10

10:01 PM
cool, I got nautilus-actions working, was reluctant to install it but sounds like a good addon to have
I'm starting to loose faith my Pull Request will be merged :/
apparently there's another one there, since Dec 4, 2015..
either the author didn't like the request, or he isn't really checking on this project lately

Am I understanding this right: If I want to run a java program on my headless server and want to use X11 Forwarding to have its GUI on a remote machine I still need to install openjdk-8-jre on the server, not openjdk-8-jre-headless?

@IanC i tend to think of the latter to be honest, i not wanna know how many dead projects linger on github

I hope he sees the notification and get curious to see what is there, it's a small change so it wouldn't cost much for him to check it
and it was my chance to collaborate with a medium sized project :/

and if not well you still have your fork of the changed code you can use and even distribute

well, later I'll go back to working on the website I'm using that component on
