Q: Why would a bash script create a file with the name of one of my variables?

I'm using this bash script to maintain 3 backups of my server. For some reason, it randomly creates an empty file with the name of one of my variables. The variable name it chooses is seemingly random, and it doesn't create the file every single time that it's run. I'm running Ubuntu Server 16.0...

A dumb question maybe: remind runs as a daemon and outputs text to stdout. I can pipe it to e.g. sed to alter the output, but how can I pipe to e.g. zenity to get a graphical notification? Simply doing remind | zenity doesn't work, that just runs zenity once and stops – I basically need something that listens to the pipe and runs zenity whenever the pipe spits something out.

Q: Two Terminals for Different Python Environments
