@TheWanderer the first weird music video you've seen?

1:01 AM
no
I've seen Pink's True Love

1:19 AM
man, it's been so long since I've used git I can't remember the name of the command I want to use..

git gud

heh
ah shoot. I forgot to fork first. I really haven't done this in a while..

unmod seth, mod zach

yes

1:48 AM
well Dark Matter is interesting @TheWanderer

mhm
but it ended this year

And I still type "@Zac" and press tab, followed by confusion when your name doesn't show up.
@TheWanderer Oh they cut it? I'm not surprised.
Overall fairly good quality though.

I think it might have concluded

But when they said the ship's shield's couldn't withstand a 20 megaton nuke... lol. Not good science.

yeah the jargon is off

1:50 AM
such a simple thing too..

I like how they purposely bring back characters from impossible situations

I'm only at episode 10 season 1 so shhh :P
don't give too much away

but yeah. It's a nice change from The Expanse. Not that I didn't like that show. Super cool. Plot was amazing. Science good. But super dark. Something more lax and "nice" is refreshing.
@AndroidDev so old dude :P

@Seth they do it every episode basically

2:02 AM
xD

you think "oh, this person's dead, why hasn't the director made a grief scene yet?"
and then the character is alive

@TheWanderer the other thing is I've noticed the tech is really basic. They are using obvious dell or HP monitors, cheap full size qwerty keyboards, simple wiring gear.. no attempt to look futuristic there.

I think it's a very low budget show
they did a good job with what they had IMO
and the plot is good
and I don't think the setting matters too much
it could be in the 2020s and be basically the same show

2:21 AM
@TheWanderer definitely
I agree.

@Tachyons no-repro here. What browser do you use? You should also post that as bug report on Meta Stack Exchange (or maybe Ask Ubuntu Meta)

Final pull request is here! github.com/lxde/lximage-qt/pull/115

@NathanOsman congratz
so you been there and got a t-shirt :p

I hope to :D

i wasnt aware of this early enough to be really able to get something done this time so only a sticker for me i guess

Hey, the last three pull requests I completed were in the last three days.
So there's still plenty of time left.

7:21 AM
I'm actually trying to make up my mind about: 'to upgrade or not to upgrade'

Q: How to restore window manager to default?

user145959I did what exactly this instruction says: Add a custom session by creating a file at /usr/share/xsessions/metacity-session.desktop. This file tells the login manager about your session. Create the file to be executed by the session added in (1) /usr/local/bin/metacity-session. Cre...

@oli can you have a look at this --> askubuntu.com/questions/966657/… not sure if to flag it or if this even would be qualify as spam
the link leads to a video of non english origin

Oli
9:19 AM
Yeah that's spam.

thank you
wasnt sure how to act on this one

Oli
Agree, it's weird

ok ubuntu-17.10 server with vanilla gnome on top runs far more stable as the ubuntu/canonical attemt of butchering gnome3

Oli
Can't you just "turn off" whatever the dock applet is that they've made in Gnome Tweak Tool?

you can yes, but as soon you install gnome-shel-extensions the whole gui gets messed up
going to gnome classic (i.e. gnome2)
and if you want to install dashtodock to have more dock options the whole system hangs and sends you into a loginloop without a chance of recovery
testing around in a VM right now and report bugs left and right
feels like noboddy tested this release beforehand hahaha

@Videonauth Do you know how to get rid of the annoying message in KVM/QEMU about the session using shortcuts?

huh? never had that message?
btw the cleanest way to install ubuntu with gnome-vanilla is to set up a server and install the de on top of it
and afterwards purge ubunutu-session
many of the bugs disapeared
and even dashtodock does not crash

It just shows in my system for a few seconds.

humm weird never have had this window

It does disappear after a short bit if I ignore it. Or get busy doing something else. But it is annoying

@Rinzwind Rinzy ! Hi :) Good afternoon :)
@Rinzwind What do you think about our new ubuntu ?

using budgie. and starting to dislike it :P
almost all of the settings do not work as I would expect them to work

@Rinzwind Well, I think it is not too bad (when you make a clean install) ... though they should have used vanilla GNOME or sticked with unity - IMHO ... :)
@Rinzwind maybe David (@fossfreedom) can help you sorting things out ? :)

Q: Unable to port forward over virtual bridge to tap interface

Darth VoidpointerI installed libvirt out of the box on Ubuntu 16.04, it creates a virbr0 virtual bridge, at 192.168.122.0/24, a dnsmasq instance to serve that range and sets up basic NAT masquerading. I created a tap interface beneath that for my virtualization software to use. The software itself is able to acc...

6:55 PM
Howdy!
So I've decided to try and solve the suspend problems I have once more, after I couldn't quite get it right last time :(
The problem I'm facing is that most of the times (80%+) I wake up from suspend, the screen gets frozen before it gets to the login screen
Last time I was advised to install the latest NVidia drivers, which I have.
I'm running Ubuntu Gnome (I know, so sue me) 17.04 w/ NVIDIA driver version 381.22 and 1060 GTX
On an XMG P707 laptop
any/all ideas would be welcomed :D

7:08 PM
does this happens to all of you?
the site didn't show flair at all

@αғsнιη Huh? Just me, I would imagine.

just shows link
it's fixed
maybe it was refreshing?

@Rinzwind can I help? what settings are not working?

@fossfreedom bug is also in gnome itself :=)
but the lock-screen always activates even when " lock screen " is set to " off "

7:23 PM
there is a lock-screen setting?
where?

in privacy :=)

looking...
well I never...!

issue is as follows:
option "lock screen after blank" does NOT check "lock screen" is "off"
the 1st option is always active from what I can tell

well that is something that gdm3 is managing with its lock screen
somehow we need to monitor that gsetting value and do something with gnome-screensaver

it works the same in gnome
and I have no method to enable natural scrolling with wayland :=P
But that's not budgie ;=)

7:29 PM
any ideas how to make gnome-screensaver turn on / off ?

good question >:=)

lol - well if we both can work that out we can do some magic here!

im as well put off by this whole mess distro called 17.10

If you do
gnome-screensaver --exit
every second it will stay off >:=D

non of my screen recording softwares work

7:31 PM
@Videonauth there are other flavours ...

yeah but all using wayland by now dont they?

the problem is with wayland

only kubuntu and ubuntu itself have wayland support

will do a test run tomorrow on bare metal and try to go with gnome for xorg

7:32 PM
no budgie does not use wayland iirc

@Rinzwind lol - that is an ugly hack!

@fossfreedom well I know how to make it less of a hack
do it every third second. Makes it 33% of a hack >:-D

how about apt purge gnome-screensaver?

well that will uninstall the whole desktop

7:35 PM
This kills lock screen
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen true

right - so if someone flips that privacy option it also needs to change that gsettings disable-lock-screen key value ?

2 possible options from the gsettings @fossfreedom
org.gnome.desktop.screensaver idle-activation-enabled
org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled
@fossfreedom yes I would think so :)
most advice to purge gnome-screensaver _O-

hey @Seth have you gotten to season 2 yet?

do us a favour @Rinzwind - create an issue here github.com/UbuntuBudgie/budgie-extras - I think we can write a very easy hidden applet that will look out for that privacy option and make the necessary changes

on the lockscreen?

7:39 PM
aye

AYE AYE CAPTAIN

@TheWanderer I am a wizard not a captain :+
sigh. github does not let me use rinzwind :+)

@TheWanderer no. couple more episodes.

hurry up

Please VTC no-repro (see OP's last comment): askubuntu.com/questions/966756/…

@TheWanderer one aye is enough lieutenant.

shoosh

@Seth what series?

@Rinzwind Dark Matter.

ah. On my list
finished supergirl, the expanse and iron fist the last 2 weeks

7:44 PM
that's a lot of watching lol

and killjoy

@AndroidDev Now that’s a deep fried meme!

S2E5 is amazing @Seth

@Seth started my free month on netflix ;)

@Rinzwind if you have a GMail, which free month is it?

7:46 PM
@TheWanderer Good to know ;)
I think I just watched episode 11.
but I've been working on Nathan's sunrise module more lately.

you'll see that the actor who plays the android is really good

@fossfreedom almost done.
Can you help with 1 other?
Power -> Turn of wifi to save power
I expected when I turn this OFF wifi is NOT disabled when I close the lid
But that option kills wifi always.
(when I turn that option off the option "wifi" at the top of settings is turned off too

so you close the lid, reopen ... and you cannot then switch the option back on to turn on wifi?

hmm no :=)
when I close the lid i want wifi to stay on .... my torrents need to be active
but when I close the lid wifi ALWAYS gets killed

oh - so you dont want your laptop to auto suspend when closing the lid ?

7:55 PM
hmm
wait
I have auto suspend OFF

sounds like some sort of systemd issue

that is what was puzzling me. I am sure it worked differently
why are the options in power for wifi and BT connected to enabling/disabling wifi and bt !?

good question @Rinzwind for the network-manager devs

ah well. natural scrolling is more important :D
the whole mouse/touchpad sections does nothing :X

that is controlled/managed by xserver-xorg-input-libinput
have you accidentally installed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics ?

8:09 PM
I do not accidentally install software :=)

if you dont have the synaptics package installed then your issue is a bug with xserver-xorg-input-libinput

the whole xinput seems to have changed :-P
xinput list

You've dragged it down to 3.9 stars now.

@NathanOsman why? >:-D

@TheWanderer I feel your pain now.
My favorite is when someone writes and complains in a foreign language.

8:34 PM
which app?

hey even someone gave you a 5 star even if he erxpierienced a phone crash due to the app :)

9:31 PM
Linux desktop on samsung phones - feature in development

@NathanOsman did you never make a public beta?

wget is dangerous?

Well I dunno about that one, but at the top I see a fork bomb
And then there's Disk Destoryer™
(dd)

well every command is more or the less dangerous in the right context ;)

10:00 PM
@TheWanderer I did.
Beta testers tended to be a bit more technically inclined.

anyone here has 17.10 on bare metal running with the gnome on xorg option running and can test a ting?
