it's weird
Samsung's Note 7 caught fire, but the Note 8 is still insanely popular
6 of LG's phones bootloop, nowhere near as dangerous as the Note 7, but people avoid LG like the plague because of it
Samsung actually apologized for their mistakes and issues refunds
LG basically said "fuck you" to its customers
LG, step up your CS
So I made this:
Unfortunately, I forgot to lock the focus and white balance.
So my apologies for the extra shaking and whatnot.
Still looks kinda cool.
Lol
@NathanOsman apologies not accepted
@TheWanderer Darn it.
01:46
we all know Canadian apologies mean nothing >:D
soary soary soary
02:00
@TheWanderer WTH are these crazy people thinking.
$849?!
I hate people.
02:23
@NathanOsman or anyone else who does animation - do you know of any FOSS alternatives to Adobe AE?
I guess closed source but free would be OK too
02:46
What does AfterEffects do again?
Maybe BlackMagic Fusion. It's closed source but the basic version is free.
I've just started playing around with it.

Q: How can I improve Kwin's performance on Nvidia hardware?

RolandiXorI'm having major problems with Kwin misbehaving itself (causing constant freezing, restarting after long freezes, etc), and it seems to be related to the fact that I'm using a Nvidia graphics card (Driver version 375.66, card is a GeForce GT 730). I'm at my wits end - so bad I installed compiz! ...

I'm getting pretty close to sinning because of Kwin.
Blender, Natron, Kdenlive, Openshot 2.0 (though powerful, it's not exactly as straightforward as it could be, and still lacking a lot of bling as it's in early stages of development of course).

There are others, but I don't remember them off the top of my head. There's also Lightworks, but I don't like their strategy and have never even tried it out.

Q: How to run one job at a time but all of them each hour?

ReynierPMI have the following set of commands: docker exec -u www-data bin/console api:execute --object=Account; docker exec -u www-data bin/console api:execute --object=AgreementType; docker exec -u www-data bin/console api:execute --object=CFProgramLevel; docker exec -u www-data bin/console api:execute...

@Cynplytholowazy Contempatle on this with me: I have multiple servers, all have security features enabled that block multiple failed loging attempts on Mail/WEB/SSH/FTP/ ports. I think with the banned IP of all my servers, I have millions of blocked IPs. You think It's of any value to put that list online? And maybe create scripts, that with every blocked IP also gets POST on a central server, which other servers can download the banned IP list from to protect their servers???
It depends. If you have servers experiencing spam attacks recently, it will create some value (to a certain extent). But of course, only put on blocked IPs that try to access your server frequently. It is still som private data for you.
And as for scripts, it will only be good if other servers trust your server.
@blade19899 Is there a quick way to get Silver badges?
12:49
@Cynplytholowazy A list with requirements per bade(Gold, Silver, Bronze): askubuntu.com/help/badges
I know this page
Is there quick silver badges I can get?
@Cynplytholowazy I found some similiar projcets, but not complety FOSS
@blade19899 That is the reason why I said it will only create value to a certain extent.
@Cynplytholowazy Define quick? If a Silver badge requires you to do someting which you are knowledable in, than thats quick silver badge. My advice is go through all of the silver badges and see which ones you can get.
people may not trust FOSS ones, and it's not worthy to pay for others.

How does Ubuntu moderator election work?
12:52
Your profile page also has a "Next privilege" module, which tells you, which badge is the closest for you to receive!
Rules and regulations for moderators!
@blade19899 That says Civic Duty and Strunk & Write and Elctorate.
@blade19899 Thank you, I will see if there are useful info to me.
The reason I don't run this program is because you will probably get banned by your ISP and you (they) will receive a metric boatload of abuse email. also you will be added to those blacklists yourself obviously...
if you have a way to run it though, like if you have a good relationship with your ISP, it'd be kinda fun to scan the scanners
13:23
@StefanoPalazzo Thanks. Not gonna try it xD

Should I reinstall Ubuntu now?
I am using Arch Linux, set everything up except Chrome which does not work
@Cynplytholowazy Chrome or chromium?
Chrome
I don't like chromium
And you know what chromium actually doesn't work as well
Chrome/Chromium, are memory suckers! hate them both equaly!
Agree. I just want to take my personal data out and leave chrome
I turned to Opera
13:32
@blade19899 What isn't? Last time I switched from firefox to chrome/ium it was because firefox was taking too much memory.
Both sucks memory
All modern browsers take too much memory these days because we've decided to move our operating systems to the "cloud".
@Cynplytholowazy Oh? I've been quite happy with chromium. The only thing it lacks for me is the ability to cast to a chromecast but that's not a big deal.
Comparing, some takes slightly memory less
13:34
Search performance of Stack Overflow will be degraded a bit this morning as we use the backup search cluster during our elastic upgrade.
But I have both chrome and chromium working fine on my Arch, anyway.
Like 50MB, it's extremely important to me
Wait @terdon what? you have it worked?
I tried LXDE, Xfce, GNOME, KDE, all not working
Oh by the way is there a way to unjoin a site in SE?
@Cynplytholowazy Yes, never had any problems with it either. Just pacman -S chromium
What does the DE have to do with it?
(But if we're going to be debugging arch, we should move to /dev/chat)
@Cynplytholowazy Yes. If you don't have much rep there, you can delete your account. If you have too much rep for that, you need to ask stack exchange.

It's a cool one.
A bit borg-like!
I'm OK: just finished working but I promised Elijah to post that Q&A 5 days ago, so finally got around to it...
I wonder why this USB to SATA adapter offers a USB-A 3.1 version
(a star for that one wouldn't hurt, because I think very little people back up their MBR & PT.) @ParanoidPanda
SATA is 6Gb/s, and USB 3.0 is 5Gb/s, so it's not really like you're losing bandwidth there
@TheWanderer Because most people have no clue that USB 3.1 is overkill for SATA?
20:45
that could very well be it
Marketing: Cost differential to produce 3.1 and 3.0 is marginal, so why not be able to add big shiny letters "3.1 compatible!"
they also have a USB-C version at 3.1, which makes sense, since USB-C is 3.1 :D
wrong message @ParanoidPanda lol

and add the printer to the domain
and make it a webserver
and run your main website off it
I have to use Windows for work, so no Windows machines in my house!!!
20:51
wait a second
(Well, except the work laptop)
I had to use shellcheck.net to type that bash script that just got starred and can use some more stars.
(Anyone wants to test it out? It should work!)
I can only test it if I shut down this piece of Windoze and go upstairs where the Internet connectivity is :shite:)
I've been writing scripts for ... 20? years now, so I'm pretty sure it works
I still need to write a restore answer though...
@TheWanderer Not necessarily apparently:
From Wikipedia: A device that implements USB-C does not necessarily implement USB 3.1, USB Power Delivery, or Alternate Mode.
hrm
well if it's Thunderbolt 3 it does
I haven't seen many USB-C USB 1.0 devices though...
:-) :-) :-)
20:58
O_O
was USB 1.0 ever even used?
Yes!
Keyboards! Mice!
no that's 1.1
you could be right...
Lemme check.
huh they sell USB-C mice
but not USB 3 mice :p
:D
From Wikipedia: Few USB devices made it to the market until USB 1.1 was released in August 1998
Logitech must've made some...

why do you put those forty-two quadrillion lines of license boilerplate on top of three lines of useful script code?
Why didn't you tell me????
Because I put those on all my scripts.
okay, 5 lines of code actually, as you put do/done on separate lines

one line of code if you remove the LF

Q: Are {/bin, /lib, /sbin} symlinks into /usr in Ubuntu?

StrongBadI am a little confused by this question about moving files from /bin to /usr/bin on an Ubuntu 17.04 system. Reading the Ubuntu wiki says: For Quantal, merged /usr should be supported. On new systems installer should create {/bin, /lib, /sbin} symlinks into /usr. As this was from 2012 and I ...

@Fabby How had you published the script?
user136984
22:39
@ByteCommander Yeah, but I've still kept my Buddhist beliefs, I've just added Russian Orthodox on top of them. So in fact I'm not changing underwear, I'm putting more underwear on! ;P
user136984
I don't really see Buddhism as a religion, nor do many monks actually. It's more of a personal path, but there is nothing contradictory with it and Christianity. In fact a lot of the teaching are very similar, Jesus just adds bits on and develops it further. Buddhism concentrates on the self and freedom, it doesn't mention a god, that's not to say that there isn't one, Buddhism just isn't about that.
@Fabby I'm not sure if the GPL allows notices to be removed from a script that a company uses internally. But I do want to make sure you know that putting a GPL notice in a script here or other SE sites does not impose any new restrictions on anybody, because they don't have to accept the GPL to redistribute it--they can accept CC-BY-SA instead. CC-BY-SA does also require attribution when distributing the work, but it does not require people to adhere to the GPL or keep your GPL notice.
Content you contribute here is licensed to SE and then all of us who receive it under CC-BY-SA. Saying it's GPL only adds that as an alternative--it creates more things people can do, and GPL restrictions apply if people choose to distribute it under the GPL, but people are free to ignore that completely and just follow CC-BY-SA. Editors may even edit the GPL notice out of your post on Ask Ubuntu.
7
A: Is there a license on all the code put on SE?

OliAll post content is available under CC-BY-SA. But I disagree slightly with the spirit of muru's post. You can add additional licenses to your posts. If a post declares its content to be available under an additional license, that is just dual-licensing. The reader can choose between the stated ...

user136984
I find it somewhat silly to identify as a 'Buddhist' actually, because it's just a name for a state I already had, but I don't need to identify as one to be one. It's something that's part of me, and others, it's got nothing to do with the name. Although I see the name as being useful for those still needing to complete that path, I already have it so I don't need it. I mean, I'm obviously not enlightened, but I know that path in myself, I don't need anything external.
user136984
Whereas the love of Jesus is something not fully developed in me so that something I need to focus on now.
