@NathanOsman ever figure out the bug in Nitroshare? I'd me more than happy to test any APKs you send my way :D
@TheWanderer I'm sorta learning towards a rewrite. I think what I'll do is I'll start a personal fork and if I ever finish it then I'll transfer ownership to HTY
Or actually not a fork in this case
A clean repo

Q: Why am I not mentioned in the “marked as duplicate” label?

dessertYesterday I flagged number of loopback addresses as a duplicate of How to add a loopback interface?, and as far as I can tell from the automatic comment I was the first and only one to do so. Now that it's officially marked as duplicate I wonder why I'm not mentioned:

@LandonZeKepitelOfGreytBritn What post was it? Was it related to the problem you're having? What port is the server listening on and what port is the client attempting to connect to? Are they the same? It's possible to block outbound traffic on a client but I doubt that's what's going on. If the firewall is fully disabled on the server then you should be able to ping the server from the client with the ping command. Does that work? Do you have a question on the main site about this? If so, can you give a link?
13:13
don't remember which post exactly, you edited someones elses answer.

server was listening on port 2000
client was trying to connect on port 2000

I could see via wireshark that there was some normal stuff going on via TCP (no NACKS, resets or whatsoever), but no screen appeared

yes firewall was fully disabled on the server side and I even disabled to firewall on the client side.
no that gave the same result

No I didn't bother posting it on the main site. It just didn't work between my two personal laptops, but worked immediately when I tried to connect to a PC "on the field"
weird...
If ping didn't work either the machines probably can't connect at all and the underlying problem is likely not related to VNC.
What did you mean by "no that gave the same result"?
@EliahKagan still didn't work
yhea never mind :) was pretty weird
afaik that type of stuff shouldn t be overly complicated
@LandonZeKepitelOfGreytBritn Okay. If you want to troubleshoot it further, you can let me know.

Hello
I am looking for cheeses conf file

I'd like to modify some of its options permanently
@LandonZeKepitelOfGreytBritn Does this help?

Q: Cheese config file location

GregologyI would like to do a fresh install of cheese. I have purge-removed the package and re-installed but when I open up cheese it has my old settings. Where are the cheese config files located? I would like to remove the cheese config file and I have tried searching for the config file in my home dire...

@EliahKagan I followed this
modified the settings
but cheese keeps on overwriting the settings
even when I start the gui via sudo
I want to "force" some settings and set those as default
when I restart cheese the old configurations are used
rather than the ones I set
I think/hope there will be a better solution... but if necessary you could lock the keys you want to keep from changing. help.gnome.org/admin/system-admin-guide/stable/…
I haven't used Cheese on a current Ubuntu release. Does the current version of Cheese have settings you can change from within the application? If so, are they reflected in visible changes to dconf keys? And (whether or not they are) do they change back automatically when you run the application again, too?
@EliahKagan yes to all of this
guvcview doesn t have a config file neither
and can t find it via dconf editor
15:00
@LandonZeKepitelOfGreytBritn That behavior or Cheese sounds like a bug. Have you searched Launchpad bugs to see if others have reported this. I'll be gone soon and for much of the day but I can probably test it out this evening to see if I can reproduce the problem. Do you know if this happens just on some machines but not others? If you agree it's a bug then I suggest reporting it -- you don't have to wait for me to try to reproduce it, you can just ping me in chat with a link to the bug report.
If you don't think it's a bug or otherwise don't want to report it as one then I recommend asking a question about it on the main site with all these details. The question might later end up getting closed off-topic as a bug report based on what people figure out, but that's okay.
@EliahKagan hmm I guess it s a bug then. I ll report it
I ll keep you informed
in the meantime I ll try to see what guvcview offers

I was wondering, this senior -I think- knows that in order to install qtcreator on this particular device
has to type sudo apt install qt5-default qtcreator-y
How does he know that? I personally would have done this:
sudo apt-file search qtcreator
which returns me a huge list containing inter alia:
qtcreator:/usr/lib/........
afterwards sudo apt install qtcreator
end of the story
How does he know he needs "qt5-default" and to add "-y" rather than just doing sudo apt install qtcreator, like I would have done?
16:47
Was it sudo apt install qt5-default qtcreator-y or sudo apt install qt5-default qtcreator -y (with space before -y)?
@ByteCommander yes, with a space
17:05
Then you can also omit the "-y".
so it's too late to say I shouldn't get this, but opinions? amazon.com/gp/product/B0150PLJBS
I found it used for $750
It only automatically answers all questions by apt with yes.
17:32
@TheWanderer meh go for a desktop - cooler, faster and quieter for less $
so I've been getting upgoats on random answers for no apparent reason....
@TheWanderer Grrrrrrrr
@AndroidDev As long as they don't come from the same goat, be happy. If they do, that goat will surely be shot sooner or later.
@ByteCommander well unfortunately I don't have Thomas' LAZOR EYEZ so I have no idea which goat hath cast them
@TheWanderer ebay.com/itm/…
I'm not getting a desktop
unless you have like a little box I can use anywhere with an unfoldable monitor
because I have three locations I move among
also
> so it's too late to say I shouldn't get this
@TheWanderer so just curious, is this for a gaming battlestation or productivity (video/photo editing, Android development)
latter
I just need MC to work as well as it does on my current laptop
17:40
well then you don't really need the GTX970
970m
huge difference
well yeah
it's a little below the 1050
but the point stands
I have the 950m right now
17:41
you could get away with Intel graphics
no I could not
Intel gives you like 30FPS average in MC
oh minecraft, I didn't know what MC stood for :D
even the 950m struggles on large servers like Mineplex
and $750 for a $1700 laptop is an absolute steal
Minecraft != Master of Ceremonies :D
17:43
@TheWanderer MC usually == Master of Ceremonies
hue
@TheWanderer yeah it's a great deal for sure, but Desktop > Laptop IMHO

yeah I hear you
also, 1080p monitors are expensive
sometimes you do need a laptop I guess
just 1 low-end set me back $120
Eh how much do you think they should be?
well the panel assembly for a 1440p phone costs like $80
shouldn't bigger pixels be easier?
@AndroidDev but I have to get it with expert installation! /s
hmm no HDMI...
I know I know DVI-D and such
but adapters
17:55
I think DVI is used by offices more
I'm not an office
I know :P
I'm someone with HDMI and VGA cables, not DVI
@TheWanderer the galaxy S5 has a 1080p panel for $90 ebay.com/itm/…
not 1440p
still way cheaper for a tiny unit
and it's OLED
17:57
true, though......
I bet they sell way more of them than they do monitors
very old though
and no prime
cause eBay
not new either
It's a monitor. who cares if it's used or not?
screenburn
older LCDs are pretty bad with retention and burnin
$140 for 1440p 5.7" vs $120 1080p 24"
the numbers don't add up >_>
18:02
like I said, I don't think the monitor companies have a good reason to lower the price
they probably don't sell that many
I thought LCDs can not burn in but only get temporary shadows at most...
@ByteCommander "temporary" can be a long time
and the filters still wear out
for instance, my V20 has image retention issues, but they only last a few minutes
if I kept using it for another 7 years, it'd probably start to wear out, and there'd be permanent number outlines on the second screen because of the AOD
18:21
@AndroidDev That is only $89 ??
18:35
@gracious1 yup
@AndroidDev I actually learned something from it just now that I wasn't aware of. Not just the meaning of the acronym, but there is a particular issue among the Ubuntu community.

1 hour later…
20:05
@gracious1 what is that issue?
20:20
@AndroidDev That's not off-topic.
20:46
@EliahKagan hey, I ended up finding online that some of those software just open the first camera they find ie always /dev/video0 in my case, as that s the built in camera. guvcviewer seem to do this and so does cheese webcam I guess. I haven't had the chance yet to report a bug concerning cheese webcam
21:17
@Seth IMO it is. Is a question about the CEO of GE on-topic at Aviation SE just because GE makes jet engines?
I don't think it should be deleted
@AndroidDev Ubuntu is more than an operating system.
Grrr... an unresponsive script locked everything up
@AndroidDev Closing is only the first step to deletion. Serves no other purpose (other than duplicate)
@Seth Explain that
@Seth Well it prevents new answers
21:18
@gracious1 It's a community with a structure. sabdfl is part of that community and structure.
@AndroidDev Closing should not be used as a tool to "prevent new answers".Not it's purpose.
@Seth Yes, I agree.
@AndroidDev Why would you want to prevent new answers?
@gracious1 @Seth shrug ok well I'm out-voted so I'll shut up :D
