@Avery One tip - do not use the work "like" when it isn't called for. People who learn English as their second language tend to use it a lot, though that's absolutely not to say that native speakers don't do it as well.... but the point is it's a bad habit to get into and it really doesn't sound very good.
It's amazing when you read things such as the deceleration of Independence and Patrick Henry's speeches and you realize that back then people had much richer vocabularies.
@TheWanderer I mean, think about "Nathan quickly worked on Request Factory" VS. "Nathan Expeditiously worked on Request Factory". They mean pretty much the same thing, but the latter sounds stronger than the former.

I would hereby like to declare that my pronoun of choice is now "it". Please use this whenever talking about me. Failure to comply is considered very rude and even a hate crime in some countries.
That's an article that really looks at it from the wrong perspective.
C16 isn't bad.
And by saying "Rip canada" about it, you're just throwing away pretty much anything the trans people and the allies have fought for in the last <big number> years.
I am not a fan of law and order solutions, but I think it's bogus to say that deliberately misgendering someone is "free speech". When would you want to do that? It is hate speech no better than any other hate speech
The thing just orders the people in order to add gender identity, sexual identity and sexual orientation to the laws as they're properly fit, and add those to classes that might be subjected to hate speech.
While my sample size is small, every canadian I've seen that isn't "trans = PEDO" level of crazy is either neutral or happy about that bill.
[I normally wouldn't post that screenshot but I believe I've properly anonymized it and the code of conduct doesn't say anything about sharing stuff so, meh]
@KazWolfe It's neutral in the sense that its majority is radical left and radical right people.
You seldom see neutral individual comments, but looking at the big picture indicates an overall neutral view.
hate speech causes harm, injury. You don't think you should have a protected right to go around kicking people in the face because you don't like them, right?
I think I see what might be one of @NathanOsman's concerns. If hate speech is not covered by free speech, what qualifies at "hate speech?" At what point does saying anything negative become hate speech?
We do have the right to criticize. In theory, one could abuse "anti-hatespeech" laws to block out any sort of criticism. What might be considered hate speech to me might not be considered hate speech to @Avery. The definition is subjective.
At the same time, I can add the argument that the definition of "hate speech" should include certain hobbies (@Avery, you know exactly what I mean here).
> any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, national or ethnic origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or mental or physical disability.
@KazWolfe I agree that it should be covered and disagree that it is a hobby.
@KazWolfe if you find the proposed solution messy, you're not alone. Identity politics is a best-we-could-do-in-the-circumstances strategy. But the PROBLEM to which this is a poor solution is where the blame lies - don't fight the solution because it's imperfect, fight the problem instead (a culture that marginalises some people such that hate speech & other structural violence happens to them)
