@jrg any idea why my <li>'s aren't indented?
Oli
Oli
@WilliamHilsum Yeah that looks right. Is there something that might be running dhclient?
@jrg sorry, in octopress I mean
Nagios is installed... I did sudo apt-get install nagios-core (I think it was)... and that is all that is on that machine
Oli
Oli
@WilliamHilsum Hmm, that shouldn't be setting anything... That shouldn't even be running as root (AFAIK) so shouldn't be able to set the IP
@WilliamHilsum But there isn't anything like network manager or wicd installed/running?
@jrg also sometimes when I do a generate and deploy it reuploads every file, I don't think that's normal is it?
15:08
@Oli not that I know of :/
I'll ask on the main site if it happens again... Thanks
Oli
Oli
@WilliamHilsum Yeah that's probably the best idea.
jeez, trolls on #ubuntu-unity
jrg
jrg
@JorgeCastro Not sure.
As for why it uploads everything, thats because you changed every file.
probably something to do with a partial you're doing along the lines of "recent posts".
aaaahhh
jrg
jrg
easier to deploy if you're using git, since you're deploying the diff. ;)
15:18
my costs are up to 28 cents
jrg
jrg
not bad. :D
44 cents in data transfer cost but I am sure the blog is only a fraction of that 4gb they are charging me for
hey does you theme's bullets not indent like mine? I wonder if that's an octo thing or if I did it when editing mine.
jrg
jrg
i must say, i didn't full realize how orange your blog is jorge.
Oli
Oli
@JorgeCastro As it's static, are you just hosting this on S3?
jrg
jrg
let me check mine
15:21
@Oli yeah just S3.
@jrg it will remain orange until I am fired. :)
jrg
jrg
heh. :D
Oli
Oli
@JorgeCastro That's pretty neat.
jrg
jrg
I have a feeling you'll retire before that happens.
also, you need to put in the G+ stuff so that your blog shows up as you, it's nice google integration
@Oli yeah it's quite cool, jorgecastro.org/2012/02/12/…
15:24
I link to the guy who shows you how to connect it to the octopress, so all I need to do is "rake deploy" and it autopushes it to s3
it's badass
I have a mind to set it up with CloudFront but really, that would be mega overkill
jrg
jrg
your blog is already so fast cloudfront would be overkill
yeah, it would be more of a "Yes, I can do it."
it handled the redditing so easily.
speaking of which, My host apparently 'fixed' my sql server slowness.....
blog.rlemon.com click around - seems faster to me but i'm also on a shotty connection right now
jrg
jrg
@rlemon no they didn't, they just got you a new server.
and moved you over in the dead of night so you wouldn't notice.
dun dun dun....
lol as long as it's not 10-20 seconds load times anymore
15:27
I also found that wordpress will 301 all your old blog posts for $12 a year, if you care about SEO and all that noise
pimped it out with preemptive server cache as well as forced browser cache.
It's taking forever to load here rlemon.
Oli
Oli
@JorgeCastro That depends. S3 can be quite slow if you're a long way away from the node. I use S3/CF for video streaming and it makes a huge difference for the video-start delay.
damn, @jokerdino once you get on, click a few times and see if it speeds up.
Oli
Oli
125 questions away from 80%.
2
15:28
@Oli I probably wouldn't notice that on a small blog page
but good to know nonetheless
urghh,,, something is dragging it down first load. it has to be a shared resource because subsequent requests to uncached pages after initial load, load way faster for me.
rlemon, it is relatively faster once it finishes loading. better design than i remember last time.
Oli
Oli
@JorgeCastro You wouldn't notice because Jorgebot has nodes in 112 countries with several petabits of bandwidth available at any given point... But normal people notice latency.
4
heh
ok it's settled then, I should CF my octopress.
wonders how much a static IP would cost.... I have an extra pc I could always host my own content???
15:32
I did do the Y!slow thing on my blog though
The facebook integration is pretty heavyweight on my blog
I am debating removing it
Guys if i'm running a home server I will be limited by my upload cap yes?
upload ~1Mbps
is 1Mbps going to be too little for a personal blog (on a good day ~100 hits)
that sounds fine to me
stupid expensive bandwidth in canada.
15:37
well, blogger is free!

Q: How to register Nginx as a service, after installing Passenger?

HappyDeveloperI need passenger/nginx to run many sites on port 80. I have installed it with its own installer (per the instructions on the nginx website. But nginx is not registered as a service. I can only run it through the binary. I need to be able to do this: $ service nginx restart Shouldn't passenger...

Q: Modify window navigation keyboard shortcuts in Unity 11.10

sunwukungI see that this question has been asked a couple of times, but the answers point to one of two solutions - neither of which appear to work for me. I'm dev-ing on Netbeans, and like to use to move selections up and down respectively. This, however, conflicts with Unity's navigation keyboard sho...

@jrg Hey, Can you give me a screen of the mod (x) part of the menu?
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK About all I can show you is whats already on that meta post. :(
@jrg Im making a small comic
I want just the mod(no.of.flags) part of the menu on the top
jrg
jrg
Oh. sure
thats not embargoed or whatever since 10k+ can access it.
and then we get a second orange number for edits.
Thanks!
You only have one :(
jrg
jrg
16:21
Right now we only have one. We normally have a lot more than that.
(i think thats actually an edit, not sure though)
I'll flag hundred posts then :P (j/k)
@Oli Must have some
jrg
jrg
just make sure we don't have to mark them invalid. :)

What does it mean when "Community" edits an answer? Someone without an account suggested an edit?
no there is this guy with an account named 'Community'
but he removed himself..
how all you see it the name
</troll>
i'm gonna go with my first guess. ;)
anyway, i ask because i'm not convinced that the latest edit to this answer contributes a lot of value: askubuntu.com/a/6257/2079
because the answer was posted by a respected AU user, it now sounds like Jorge is telling us that he personally found that Chrome sends his history and cookies to Google
regardless of whether or not the claim is true, accusations like that should probably cite some reputable sources
I don't know how that happened
fixing
thanks for the tip.
17:08
no problem, glad you fixed it :)
I do remember someone making a bunch of privacy claims wrt. Chrome and Ironbrowser that people tend to think is true
yeah, i've been reading through the comments on the recent OMG! article about Chrome vs Chromium, and i was wondering if i could find any truth to some of the claims
i know one of the other Stack Exchange sites had a good answer about the differences between Chrome and Chromium, but I can't seem to find it
hmm, I wonder why it's hard to see who accepted the edit for that
These comments are awesome
"Google Chrome, 'cause Chromium didn't have any add-ons/extensions available for it."
i like the casual use of the term "botnet" that seems to be popping up a lot in those comments...
found what i was looking for: security.stackexchange.com/questions/6394/…

@JorgeCastro You can click the Suggested link in the revisions to see who approved an edit.
17:17
oh that is excellent, I will link that badboy up
Yes, me has left comment there.
I has put in my two cents.
Does anyone else hate the new Google Chrome tab button?
I don't dislike it, I just don't get why they would remove the + button
I find it annoying because I'm not used to it.
I always use Ctrl+T
I didn't even know there was a button
I do to
But there is a button
And it irks me
17:30
@GeorgeEdison Woo, your charm works! For some reason today my mysql worked, and it fired right up!
@JorgeCastro Excellent!
I have more good neews!
Today's the start of the contest, right?
yeah
I just blogged it:
it fired right up too, 0 config
though you might want to plop a README in that badboy
@JorgeCastro Well I have another charm ready...
I saw some activity. :)
17:42
heh if you see I already mentioned it in the blog
sure
Reads the blog...
done
want me to tag it too?
I can test it too if you want
oh I see you did that
@JorgeCastro Yup, it's tagged and ready for review.
OMG ADOBE IS KILLING FLASH FOR LINUX! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
2
@GeorgeEdison If you can plop a README in both of them that would help out
here's an example of how we render the README: charms.kapilt.com/charms/oneiric/limesurvey

Q: Ssh keeps asking for passphrase several times

RogachI have a remote machine, with which I have set up public-key ssh auth - that is, I can ssh to it without typing in password each time. And I have a set of actions in a script, which use that ssh connection. But when I run that script via cron, it keeps asking passphrase for each action - and sin...

@GeorgeEdison no worries, you have 4 weeks!
How long should I expect to wait before my Stack Mobile charm gets reviewed?
18:09
today I am hoping
but mims is on his way to strata so we're down a person
No hurry - just curious.
Also... would VictoryChat (Stefano's thing) make a good charm?
I was able to get it running yesterday.
jrg
jrg
@TheX For reals?
Hmm... OpenSSL sure comes with a lot of manpages...
jrg
jrg
Meh.
Pepper won't make it into the 64 bit build of Chrome.
18:19
btw @jrg just because you are home schooled it doesn't mean you can go around shooting people in public schools...
jrg
jrg
@TheX is that what happened downtown?
you mean you haven't heard?
jrg
jrg
Haven't heard details, other than 4 injured, 1 dead. :(
Oh I guess one has died :-(
@jrg how far is that from you?
@GeorgeEdison that would be an awesome one
@GeorgeEdison does it connect to IRC yet? I would so use that instead of a normal client
jrg
jrg
18:26
@TheX I'm about 20-30 minutes away.
I see...
jrg
jrg
And thats the long way.
I drive 15 mins to work :-P so for me it isn't :P
Our closest Wal-Mart is 23 mins away... closest mall 45 :P
@GeorgeEdison another interesting one would be mozilla's firefox sync server
I think it's python
I wouldn't even bother with the mysql part, just put it in sqlite
18:36
I just saw this from a Mozilla guy
which is why it was in my brain
Hi all
I am developing for a micro atx board. No GUI required. Small footprint. Fast, stable, secure linux. not a server.
Was looking at NetBSD but it's a little odd for me. (file structure, users, ect)
what is a good distro of linux I can try.
DSL, emdebian looks interesting as well.
anyone have experience with Damn Small Linux?
19:13
I recommend PuppyLinux.
I've had good experience with that - small yet functional.
...and it's wicked fast.
well just made a boot for DSL
i'll keep puppylinux in mind if this fails.
NetBSD didn't like the hardware I think. Lots of lag and the display had tonnes of artifacts.

Question for other Ondina users, how do I ssh in? I've already added my public key, but I don't know what the user/host is supposed to be.
Wish I had that problem :P
Haven't got an invite yet.
DoR
DoR
:(
You bastard!
Stop teasing us! :D
Attention all, puppy linux is downloading. but I would also like to try some of the smaller debian based distros
any suggestions? focus on hardware support, speed, customization. I don't need a lot of pre-installed packages, I don't need a fancy GUI
or any GUI
CLI is ok by me
19:44
Ubuntu server minimal install?
@DoR Should make that more obvious in the control panel.
@OctavianDamiean automation control. I know Ubuntu Server can do that.. but I mean, I don't need anything special that it's offering.
You can have a minimal install.
ok, i'll try it.. but if this fails so help you!
That is only the system without any application that is not needed to run the OS.
19:56
@DoR If you visit the Help section of the SSH settings your account details will be in there
DoR
DoR
@MarcoCeppi The SSH settings page isn't loading for me right now.
Try refreshing, works here

nvr mind, now it is :)
Connection to bayes.ondina.co closed.
:\
@MarcoCeppi care to give me your opinions as to which Linux distro to put on jp.avalue.com.tw/products/EBM-LX800.cfm (CLI only)
@DoR Ah, this is connected to yesterdays outage. One moment
20:01
smaller footprint the better - 1GB CF drive.
@rlemon I have an idea.
Perhaps you might want to just quickly download the kernel source and build the kernel yourself. Then just include what you need.
@GeorgeEdison ohh btw puppy failed. I dunno if it was the hardware of unetbootin but wouldn't even post past install.
@rlemon It wouldn't even boot?
ohhh I would need much more knowledge about the linux system
sorry would post, but wouldn't do anything
black screen.
bios screen to black.
@DoR try again?
DoR
DoR
20:05
@MarcoCeppi works now :)
@MarcoCeppi Another question, if I make an email alias that points to a gmail address, do I need to do something in gmail to make it work?
@DoR Nope, not to my knowledge
@TheX We're going to use WebM.
Flash is way beyond its end of life if you ask me.
Just like IE6.
All technologies from the past that should be dead by now, yet they survive ... like zombies. Ugly resource eating web zombies.
20:21
@OctavianDamiean i'm going to try and install the 'minimal' server - is that an installation option per chance?
or will I have to remove a bunch of packages after the fact
@rlemon I guess not choosing any install option is what you would call a minimal install.
ok
I'm just concerned how large the footprint will be. it's a 670meg installer (which I know contains additional packages but also is compressed no?)
I only have a gig to work with and would like to keep at least 300-400 meg of logs.
Uh, I really can't tell to be honest.
@OctavianDamiean YESSSS
is pretty excited
I have no CD-ROM but ubuntu server requires I mount one...
Just tell it to shut up and install.
sudo shaddaaaap
yea if only..
ugh. wtf - it needs to be loaded from a cd?
20:49
Didn't know that. :/
Get a cd drive
?
Do you have an external CD drive?
not gonna work - I need this to be able to be installed via usb
urgggg it says you can right on the website
and I followed those exact instructions.
What's the exact message you get?

Q: Why is g++ refusing to create uic3.exe?

George EdisonI have MSYS installed and I am trying to compile Qt 4.8.0 as a set of static libraries on Windows 8. I've got the libraries built and unfortunately when building the Qt tools, I get this error: $ g++ -Wl,-s -Wl,-subsystem,console -mthreads -o ../../../bin/uic3.exe object_s cript.uic3.Release -L...

This is a weird one.
@OctavianDamiean looks safer to eat... the other one looks like it is filled with turds...
@rlemon Can't you just skip that step?
20:56
wouldn't let me... however I think there was an issue.

A: "Not a COM32R image" error when trying to install from a USB key

rlemonI just ran into the exact same problem. @TheX It was probably corrupted while uploading.
Don't eat Tacos that you didn't MD5 check.

lol
@OctavianDamiean i'll get you the message when I attempt to load the drivers from the removable media.
That is how you get diarrhea; from corrupted Tacos.
